Bryan W. Conway was born and raised in Flint, Michigan. He has been an author, soldier, factory worker, lawyer, project manager, and personal fitness trainer. His hobbies include writing, reading, fitness, scuba diving, and chess. He currently resides in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio.
The book was awesome. I didn't want to put it down, I wanted to see what Brady did next. Sandusky Darkness is very special to me because I lived there most of my life. I told my parents about this series and they told me after I'm done reading them, I have to ship them to Sandusky for them to read.
When I read Bryan W. Conway’s debut novel, Sandusky Burning, I was impressed. So when he released his second book, Sandusky Reckoning, I was hoping for more of the same. I wasn’t disappointed. In book two, we revisit the same scenes and reconnect with many of the same characters we’ve come to know in Sandusky Burning. Both novels pit good against evil in a highly relatable way, and both are much more than that trope suggests.
In Sandusky Reckoning, Conway gives us another highly complex plot that moves along briskly, twisting at nearly every turn. The familiar characters must face a new nemesis who’s every bit as cruel, ruthless, and dangerous as those they’ve defeated in book one. In fact, the plot here continues seamlessly forward from the point at which the first book ended. That makes it easier for readers familiar with Conway’s work to jump on the plot roller coaster from the first page and to hang on for another wild ride.
This is a novel that’s almost impossible to put down once you’ve begun. Partly that’s because of Conway’s writing style and partly it’s because he’s chosen once again to let the characters tell their own story. That choice gives the reader lots of short chapters, which makes it so easy to read “just one or two more” and, beyond that, this technique provides insight into the minds of every character in the book.
Those characters are well-drawn and memorable. Brady Sullivan is again the primary protagonist, and we’re allowed inside the mind of a very clever, if desperate, victim of a group of criminal opportunists who dangerously underestimate Brady’s intelligence and determination. But we know that if Brady hopes to survive, much less clear his name, he’s going to have a difficult road to travel. Readers can guess all they want—after all, that’s part of the fun with a mystery/thriller—but I’m willing to bet most won’t be able to guess this ending.
I’ve become a fan of Bryan W. Conway’s novels. You will too.
Sandusky Reckoning takes the baton from Sandusky Burning and drives the story through new twists and turns. We learn new details about the colorful cast of characters from the previous book, as well as meet some new well-developed characters. This is a great read with many surprises that pop up, that keep the reader engaged. I liked that it really looks at the aftermath of the events of Sandusky Burning.

5 out of 5 stars
Sandusky Reckoning Book Two by Bryan W. Conway is a crime/murder/thriller book. The storyline of this book is the investigation of the RV Theft and Trailer Fire cases. In this book, Randy is a thug who threatens people to do his bidding with incriminating materials of them. Randy and his men were seen as irritants in the Sandusky Campground and needed to be taken down. Mike, Data and Brady mapped out a plan that will end Randy and they succeeded. Will their actions be seen as justice or murder? Will the Sandusky Police Department fight for justice for a dead criminal? Grab a copy of this book to find out.
After the successful execution of the trio's plan, Data, who could not wait for Mike any longer decided to destroy everything that might trace them or be used against them in Randy's office. Then the investigation kicks off as Sheriff Minelli questions Travis on his findings concerning the ongoing investigation. And instructs him to go to the hospital to identify the body that was brought from the crime scene under supervision of Jenna. During the Trailer Fire and missing RV investigation, an accident occurred at the train bridge, which involved a train and a golf cart. The golf cart driver was found dead. The Sandusky Police Department began investigating by questioning acquaintances, relatives, partners, and neighbours of victims and suspects. So much was uncovered and puzzles were solved in this intriguing book.
Bryan certainly knows how to keep a reader glued to a place while reading this book. I was a bit confused as I could not differentiate the good guys from the bad guys. But as I kept reading, I was able to know the difference. Furthermore, I appreciate the efforts of the author in explaining the roles of each character. I love books that use the names of the characters as chapters or sub-topics, this way the readers are not confused and the characters are not misplaced. Furthermore, I like that the author summarized each investigation, which made it easier to comprehend all that I read. Though Sheriff Minelli is not a character to emulate, I am however impressed with his questioning skill. It is true that every authority has an eye and ear out there, just like the mayor of Sandusky who had a nephew in the police department. The mayor did not trust the Sheriff because he was a corrupt man and needed an honest man to take over in the future.
I did not dislike anything about this book. Sandusky Reckoning Book Two contains profanity and will not be suitable for readers who find profanity offensive. Aside from that, this book is a good read. I rate this book five out of five stars.
I recommend this book to readers who are fascinated by investigative stories and anyone who is in the police profession.
In this book, each extremely long chapter is divided into short parts, told from the first-person perspectives of multiple different characters, both good and bad. This was unusual but not unwelcome, as most books let you figure out who the villain is on your own, while Sandusky Reckoning makes it clear from the beginning.
In terms of writing, I found myself on the fence. It was smooth and simple to read, yet many of the small details-such as the switching of timestamps-felt unnecessary. There were simple character actions that often seemed like fillers to make each part slightly longer, which I found frustrating. Even though, like many people, I enjoy short chapters, they also felt like they were dragging a lot of the time. A few times, for example, the action of a character getting a drink would be overly descriptive in the story, and afterwards, they would walk from one place to another before getting to the main goal. I also found the explicit bathroom details unnecessary.
This book was incredibly harsh, and in that sense, realistic. It is filled with casualties: arson, murder, blackmail, suicide, violence, heavy drinking, and racism directed at both Black and White people. At times, it felt as though the characters were more weary and ready to retire for the day than actually fearful of these events. Reading from a tired police officer's point of view was amusing at times, in contrast to all the happenings. Those amusing moments were only temporary, though, as I didn't get attached to any of the characters in the story aside from Jenna. I would have definitely enjoyed reading about the attentive nurse if she were in a different book.
One strength of the book is that it does not shy away from uncomfortable realities. Readers who enjoy gritty, unfiltered depictions of crime and human weakness may appreciate this approach. However, those who prefer fast-paced action, clear heroes and villains, or emotional character development may find it difficult to enjoy.
In conclusion, I rate this book 2 out of 5 stars, as it simply wasn’t for me. The few points I enjoyed were overshadowed by the chaotic and uninteresting plot. It’s one of those books where, perhaps as an older adult, I might have appreciated it more, but for now, it did not hold my interest.
Sandusky Reckoning, #2 - Picks up right where Burning ends. Good story full of reckonings with good characters and story lines. I enjoyed both books, and while Burning was slow with the players intros, Reckoning continued the pace set when Burning finally took off running. So much of this story is told under the book's page, I won't say more. 4*
Sandusky Burning, #1 - It took awhile for all the character introductions to get over with but the book became interesting real quick. Typical criminals with their poor schmuck victims but with rather interesting story lines. The criminals make a terrible mistake and open a big can of woes when Army buddies take care of their own. Entertaining story. 4*
