One thing is certain: hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
Thank you Ben for gifting us a copy to read and review. Welcome to Beechwood Close. Where the rich and glamorous live. Money is no object. Secrets are rampant. Lies are excessive. Revenge is the number one priority. And murder is first on the agenda…. Emily Lamont and her grandmother Cynthia have arrived in the wealthy town but before they get too comfortable they have a plan. They are welcomed into the neighbourhood by Ava Shaw, Florence Foster and Rose Walker. The threesome are well respected and influential but behind closed doors their lives are a mystery. As the scheme begins to take place, secrets unravel and deception is in abundance as the outcome of the five women will take its course. Ben has cleverly crafted a thrilling book that will have you wondering what will happen next. Dynasty meets Desperate Housewives meets Melrose Place, this entertaining new series will have you immediately intrigued by the plot. A melodrama of suspense and turmoil with twists and an unexpected ending. An intelligent and compulsive narrative with a hint of psychological thriller throughout. It draws you in, becoming completely invested, wanting answers and keeping you on the edge of your seat. The book finishes on a cliffhanger that will make you want more and of course there’s a book two coming in January 2024.
Oh, my days! This was fantastic. I was completely immersed in the lives of the residents of Beechwood Close.
On the surface it looks like your typical wealthy neighbourhood, idyllic and beautiful but it’s a facade. Underneath it all, those perfect lives are harbouring dark secrets and everything is beginning to crumble thanks to the arrival of its 2 new residents, Emily & her gran, Cynthia.
What I absolutely loved was that I instantly felt an array of emotions about (and for) the characters, and when we delve deeper into their lives and what drives them, my feelings changed, (for one they only changed a little and I still thought she was a b!tch), but that’s what great fiction does. It’s also filled with twists & turns which had me guessing (wrongly) throughout.
What to expect from Secrets, Lies & Revenge? Well, in the words of Ronseal - “It does exactly what it says on the tin” 😂
Seriously though, this is a fantastic story full of lies, deceit, heartache, murder and leaves you wanting more.
Only 4 stars because I have unanswered questions and then there’s the cult side of things, but I think book 2 has the answers (hopefully).
Thank you so much Ben, I am so grateful and can’t wait to find out what’s coming for the resident of Beechwood Close.
Book 2 - Secrets, lies & Sacrifice is OUT NOW! 📚🎉 I’m starting this today! ♥️
Suspense, intrigue and a cult - what more could you want from a book? Thoroughly enjoyed this book, it's pulled me right out of my reading slump, thank you. I now obviously have to crack straight on with book 2!
If you’re into suburban drama with a dark twist, this book is absolutely your jam. Secrets unravel at breakneck speed, and the characters—oh, the characters—will keep you hooked from the first page. The writing is sharp, well-paced, and masterfully balances detailed descriptions with just enough mystery to keep you guessing.
Now, if you enjoy stories that slowly reveal the undercurrents of scandalous lives behind picket fences, this one won’t disappoint. And let’s just say, the men in this book? Yeah, you’ll want to throw most of them off a cliff. But trust me, it’s all worth it in the end. A dark, thrilling read that feels like Desperate Housewives meets Gone Girl—but with even more surprises.
Now for the breakdown of some of my feelings:
I’m going with 4 for the first book because it is a starter and while it picks up in the middle to end it can be kinda a slow transition at the start. The book rewards you for this patience and I appreciate the story setting and building blocks but be prepared in the beginning for the book to introduce you to this world and people for a while before anything really starts popping off.
Florence remains my absolute favorite through almost all of this book. She’s a walking disaster, but in the best way possible. Every time she makes a questionable life choice, I’m torn between wanting to scream “stop!” and cheering her on. It’s a delicate balance, but Florence is a queen who can pull it off.
Emily is over here being… well, Emily. She’s just kind of there, standing in the midst of all the chaos. Meanwhile, you’ve got Grandma in the background basically calling for blood 🤣 I love how the story manages to mix all these crazy, dark elements while still being such a fun, gripping read.
And finally, I like the writing style. It’s not overly wordy but still manages to give rich descriptions and a solid sense of the characters. The narrator gives you little glimpses of everyone’s shady motives without it being spoon-fed to you.
In conclusion: All the men are trash (except maybe Nick, cause he’s fully unhinged 👀), Florence is on Queen Time, and I’m living for the drama. A wild ride from start to finish!
One word: DRAMA. If you live for drama & crime mysteries - this is the book to go for. It is a twist of Desperate Housewives meets Pretty Little Liars; combined into one. A little neighborhood deemed perfect in the eyes of an outsider but inside, it quietly holds nothing but secrets and lies. Its literally a series of unfortunate events, one after another. The author built the environment and characters up so well, I did not want to stop. While reading, each FMC (especially Ava) had me riled up! Reading it felt like I was watching one of those movies, yelling “why would you do that? or how could you?! But thats what made it so intriguing because there was so many twist and turns. Even with so many events happening the author never made it feel like it was too much. Every event unfolded & blended in perfectly together. I cannot wait to read the second book!
Maybe the saying had always been right. Money can't buy happiness.
In the rich neighborhood of Beechwood Close, four women go about their troubled lives trying to find happiness. Emily moves to the neighborhood with her grandmother after obtaining a sudden fortune, but struggles emotionally from losing her parents when she was a child. Florence is in the midst of a potential divorce from her husband, something she can't quite come to terms with, and is tempted by alcohol to cope with the situation. Ava is running from her past wrongdoings, which might be catching up to her, and hides her current misconduct from her friends. Rose is stuck in an abusive marriage and seeks out help from a mysterious group called The Order, but it's not quite what she had expected and she wants out. As the lives of these four women intertwine, secrets and lies are revealed, and some of them even seek revenge.
This book took a bit for me to get into, but as the tensions grew greater and the many secrets within its pages were exposed, I just had to know what was coming next. Ben Andrews did a fantastic job writing believable female characters with complex home lives. If his name weren't on the cover, I would've assumed a woman wrote it. He really handled the subject matter well. The drama was gripping, and the plot twists I didn't see coming. Masterfully written, and I can't wait to read the next one when it's released!
✍️ This is the story of four women, Three murders and lots of secrets in Beechwood Close. When Emily and her grandmother Cynthia move in to the wealthy neighbourhood after coming into some money they meet their neighbours who they happen to share a common connection with as well as a plan for revenge.
When I first came across this book and read the title followed by the synopsis, I was very Intrigued and excited to read it and it certainly did not disappoint. I LOVED it! It was completely Addictive and unputdownable. Highly recommend.
The immersive writing had me transported to the mysterious and rich neighbourhood of Beechwood Close and its characters who were filled with their own splashy and peculiar stories as well as melodramatic moments in the story which was so thrilling and exciting that I was instantly drawn to them.
There were a variety of themes and elements that I relished and which kept me completely enthralled and enthusiastic from beginning to end. Secrets, Affairs, Murder, Retribution, Deception, Wealth.
The more I read the more I was replete with suspense, shock and fear. There was a bevy of Twists and Turns in all directions I didn't see coming and the ending was a real hair raiser.
I loved this book, I was so invested in all of the characters & the revenge Emily and her Grandmother Cynthia were going after.
I loved where the book is based, in a rich neighbourhood called Beechwood Close. All of the characters had their own little stories going on which I found very interesting. And I enjoyed the chapter style of swapping between characters!
This book really does teach you that there is so much more to people than what you see at first glance. Who can you really trust?
Secrets, Lies & Revenge has short, punchy chapters that kept me turning the pages wanting to find out more!
Book 1, the story introduces Emily and her grandmother, Cynthia, as well as Ava, Rose, and Florence. Cynthia has history with the three women and Emily helps with her revenge plan, despite knowing little about the reasons. Having the different perspectives gives readers an all-round insight into the characters' lives, followed by the ultimate goal and result. The story is a slow read, allowing readers to connect with the characters. Then, the story picks up 2/3 of the way in when secrets begin to spill.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
So I have spent the morning riding and just finished Secrets, lies and revenge by Ben Andrews!
This book was a great read and has so many twisted plots between characters that it really did deliver a gritty dark community that has a lot of dark secrets!
My favourite characters to follow were Nick and Ava as they have a very twisted relationship that developed over the book. I'm super excited to see where this goes in book 2 🤩.
This book had cult themes and I didn't realise how interested in this I would be, so I really hope we get more in the next installment!
If you like a book where drama is at the forefront and everyone has a dark secret, you have to give this book a go!
I really enjoyed this, I couldn't put it down! All of the characters kept you intrigued with their own little stories going on and all intertwining at the same time.
Lots of twists throughout, and i didn't see any of them coming! Every time I tried to put it down, I had to keep going🤣
Highly recommend this book. It was a great fast-paced thriller with short chapters, which is always a bonus!
Also ended on a bit of a cliffhanger.. roll on book number 2, I need answers!!
This is definitely a 4.5 rating… wow!! The twists that this books has is crazy. One of the things I figured out really quick but the other stuff is insane. Can’t wait to start reading the second book to this and see what is going on because it did end on a cliffhanger. The way Ben Andrews writes is amazing. It’s an easy read, I got hooked on the first chapter. I can’t wait to read more of Ben’s work. I definitely recommend this book for anyone especially if you like desperate housewives.
I found this story to be interesting. I enjoyed the characters a lot. I loved how the author built them and their environment up. People with their perfect little houses but secrets deep inside. It was intriguing to me and it made me want to read more up until the end.

I’m normally more of a ghouls and goblins guy but this was a lot of fun. More twists and turns than a season of Desperate Housewives. And it was so fast paced which was perfect given the amount of plot we were going through. And because of the fast pace, some of the twists really blind sided me. It was impressive. Maybe I’ll get into crime novels now
I thoroughly enjoyed this. It was full of drama from the start. The characters were interesting and you felt everything with them. A book full of secrets, lies and revenge it certainly was. I was lucky enough to be gifted this along with an Arc copy of book 2 in the series and I can’t wait to see how these lives continue to unfold.
Amazing read! Such a gripping book I read this in less than 24 hours, I was picturing all the characters in their tiny community as I was reading just loved it, good ending too
