The safe thing to do might have been to stay on Earth, but Ruby Palmer hasn’t been playing it safe. She’s committed to helping her robot friends save their home world. To do that, Ruby and the robots need to travel to a planet they just learned about, in a part of space that is supposed to be forbidden to them. It’s a planet that should hold the answers to the questions of the robots existence, and hopefully Ruby can prevent a big reboot from wiping the robots slate clean!
Can Ruby keep her robot friends safe, help them find what they need, and *then* maybe have a normal life again?
Adeena Mignogna is a physicist and astronomer (by degree) working in aerospace as a software engineer and manager. More importantly, she’s a long-time science fiction geek with a strong desire to inspire others through writing about robots, aliens, artificial intelligence, computers, longevity, exoplanets, virtual reality, and more.
I read this whole series continuously from beginning to end in 5 days! 🙂 I couldn't stop. It was fun and suspenseful. I recommend this sci-fi series to anyone who enjoys science fiction. Looking forward to the next books 📚 by this author!
This ending and the series in general is all a bit odd. You’ll have trouble if you can’t follow thoughts from “outside the box” so to speak. The new characters (robots) in book 4 definitely take some getting used to, and trying to follow their logic is not as simple as the original robots. Fortunately Ruby manages to bring a resolution for the series that seems to work and provides a positive way forward for the series. It was entertaining.
This is an enjoyable conclusion to the series, with enough left open to allow for further adventures.
Having helped her robot pals find their missing data, Ruby Palmer accompanies them back to their own system and the hidden planet in the “Keep Out Zone.” She’s rightly excited and nervous about possibly meeting alien lifeforms—the robots’ creators. They find only eleven robots who created Location Zero and its first robots to help find their creators, the long-gone Contractors. They are close to sending a software upgrade to Location Zero that will reset every robot, with no thought toward retaining the personalities they might have developed. Ruby and friends have their work cut out to convince them not to send the upgrade, including creating virtual reality sims of Location Zero and of the Contractors. But robots can be as stubborn as humans.
I enjoyed the array of believable robots in the KOZ, similar to what we might send to Mars or the Moon. They were realistic machines with set responsibilities, but with their own quirks and personalities developed over centuries. Ruby’s experience in a hostile environment demonstrated how vulnerable humans are away from Earth. A mild concussion, dehydration, or an ambient temperature that is too high or too low are real dangers space travelers might face. There was also plenty of gentle humor as Ruby negotiated the different needs and communication styles of Bios and robots.
A fun, quick read with plenty of real science in an entertaining package.
A good conclusion to a great series. Although the author did tie up the story of Ruby and her robot friends, there is room left for more stories in the robot universe. I would look forward to reading more with some of these characters.
Each of the stories take place in different locals, allowing the characters to react differently according to there personalities and there are different personalities. This makes for a story that does not get stale, but holds the readers interest since the reader cannot predict how the character will react in the new environment and different characters they are interacting with.
4.5 stars! The last book in this series brings lots of excitement and discoveries! Ruby, SD and AT make it to the Keep-Out Zone and find ... different robots, who seem to be the creators of the robots in Location Zero. But who are the Creators? Lots of investigation and negotiations are necessary, since the KOZ robots are intent on finishing the Reset which will wipe all memories from the population of Location Zero. Well thought out, especially in characterization of the robots and how they think, and the humans as well, and a story which keeps you turning the pages. (If you are looking at this series for the first time, do go back and read at least the first book.) - I received a review copy and freely leave this honest review.
Sometimes, you need a happy book; this series is filled with happy books.... And happy robots. Ruby is a great character, the story is thrilling and fun, and I felt a little sorry for Disto because no one seemed to take him seriously. I'm looking forward to more stories from Mignogna.
A wonderful conclusion to a series filled with robots, programming, and space exploration! Fast-paced, silly, enjoyable, and a dash of good science sprinkled in.
the end of a fun series where our protagonist meet a bunch of robots from another part of the galaxy, and it turns out they don't know where they came from.
I really enjoyed it, and have picked up and am now reading her next book.
