He's British football's philosopher manque. Brian Clough is the most successful England manager we never had and a genuine footballing legend. Suitable for armchair footballers, this is a collection of quotations from English football's wittiest, most trenchant and widely admired manager.
This is a great little book of quotations from the legendary Brian Clough.
The book goes though Brian Clough’s life and career thematically, with a little summary by the great Duncan Hamilton prefacing each chapter. Clough had the wit and timing of a stand-up, but many people mistook this for egotism and arrogance. However, there are some real gems in here.
The title of the book refers to the OBE that Cloughie received in the 1991 Queen’s Birthday List - he claimed the initials stood for “Old Big ‘Ead”.
Duncan Hamilton worked as a journalist at the Nottingham Evening Post for more than twenty years, covering the Nottingham Forest beat, or to be more accurate, covering Brian Clough. He has already written a more substantial biography of Clough, entitled “Provided You Don't Kiss Me: 20 Years With Brian Clough” which earned him the first of his three William Hill Sports Book of the Year Awards in 2007. So his Cloughie credentials are beyond refute.
