Bluegrass Easter by Allie Pleiter
A "veterinarian on sabbatical," widowed Paul Sycamore is not interested in answering his new neighbor's constant questions about her expectant sheep. But the comfort his child finds on Audrey Lupine's Middleburg, Kentucky, farm just may open his heart.
Lois Richer made her debut in 1997 with the launch of Steeple Hill. Today, with over a dozen titles and well over half a million books in print worldwide, Richer continues to build a huge fan base through her inspirational work. Twice a finalist for the prestigious Holt Medallion — Honoring Outstanding Literary Talent — Richer has also been nominated by Romantic Times Magazine for Best Love Inspired Book of 2001. In 2002 she won second place in the Inspirational Reader's Choice Contest sponsored by the Faith, Hope and Love chapter of Romance Writers of America (RWA).
This omnibus contains two different Love Inspired stories from two very different authors that it reads like night and day. Unfortunately besides the Easter theme and the Christian romance genre these books were quite mismatched like the yoked ox and donkey that I fear Allie's novel will lose much deserved readers.
Desert Rose is the first of the two books and is unfortunately to me the worst of the bunch thus if omnibus books could be divided into star rankings I would have given it an one star. The message is about how fear holds you back whether it is the fear of having a loving relationship with God or the fear of allowing your life dictate not only how you live but relationships with each other. As such these are quite good messages for any reader, whether Christian or not.
What hurts this particular story is the creepiness of the male protagonist. Basically he shows up on the woman's doorstep of her business then proceeds to stalk her and make decisions all while actually hiding who he actually is from her. And that is why I cannot really stand behind this story even with its good message or not.
Meanwhile Bluegrass Easter is the story on which this omnibus' cover is based off of. The story has more of a plot than the previous story and it really is sad that they chose to tuck it in as the last story since readers of the first will probably refuse to proceed to the last one.
Although there are some spelling mistakes, this story is basically about learning how to give the reins to God and not worry so much as well as learning how to restart. The story is also one of growth, which is much more refreshing than trying to follow around a broken couple.
And just like any of the other books in this series there are the opening verse for the focus of the book, the studies in the back and of course the letters from the authors.
As a collective book it can be easily passed over and other good Christian romance books found. For those who do want to tackle this one and don't have enough time on their hands I would strongly recommend bypassing the first story and just get onto the second.
Jayne rose of Rose's Roses needs help with her grandmother's operation and her dream of landscaping. Can Ben Cumming help without them finding out who he really is and just how much money he has?
Audrey Lupine has 4 sheep she calls her "girls" and one of them, Martha, will be lambing this spring. Vet, Paul Sycamore and his daughter Lily have just moved to town to start over after losing their wife and mother to cancer. Having a vet right next door is just too convenient when Audrey finds out that all four of her ewes will be lambing!
Two Easter stories by authors Lois Richer and Allie Pleiter. Book published in May 2010. Of the two I liked the story Desert Rose the best. I give it a 4 star rating and Bluegrass Easter a 3 star rating. Both stories are about rediscovering love, life and faith.
Two books in one. Desert Rose by Lois Richer is less compelling and felt forced. Story could have been set at any time of year. Bluegrass Easter by Allie Pleiter is the stronger piece and more realistic. A lovely spring/Easter story of hope.
These two Easter stories in one book, that I finished when I was without internet were just eh. Ok!...In my opinion! I did like 'Bluegrass Easter' better than Desert rose. Which is weird because Desert Rose is set in Palm Springs! ;-) NEVER read a book that was set so close. Maybe they'll do one set in Yucca now LOL!...Anyway, don't know if it was the storyline. Characters. Or both. They were just eh.
Its hard to rate a book that has two stories in it. I really liked Desert Rose and would give it 3 stars but I did not like Bluegrass Easter at all and would give it one star.
Both Desert Rose by Lois Richer and Bluegrass Easter by Allie Pleiter were beautiful stories that show despite unhappiness and trials, there are brighter days if we have faith-great Easter reads.
