Catherine Ramsey-Hart inherits a Major League ball club, but she's losing everything important. Recently, she buried her father, while her soon-to-be-ex husband, the once-great infielder LJ Hart, is living it up in Europe with a too-thin and too-young jeans model. Topping it off, she loses her third baseman to free agency two weeks before the season opener. With LJ demanding ownership of half the team, and the fans of Chicago baseball deserving a pennant race, how can a woman in the spotlight hold it together when everything around her is falling apart? Enter Mark Hennessy, minor league ballplayer. A decade younger than Catherine, Mark has troubles of his own, including an ailing father, a do-good sister on the verge of a nervous breakdown, and a ne'er-do-well younger brother who's in trouble with the law and with an MP Captains daughter. Mark ought to go home to Chicago, to help his family in their time of need. Doing so means forfeiting his baseball dreams, however, when Catherine appears in Clearwater, Florida, scouting for a replacement third baseman, it appears his dreams have been answered...in more ways than one. Mark might be a delicious way for Catherine to avenge LJ's affair, but if he thinks he can sleep his way to the top of the Major League ladder, he has another thing coming.
