Lost Before You

Rate this book
Charlotte
I fled home in the cover of night without looking back. Leaving everything and everyone I love behind. Including the one person I feared most. It was the only way I could escape my dangerous past and be free.

Six years later, I’m finally living, but I’m still not free. Control and predictability are my constant. Letting my guard down and having fun? Not so much.

I’m so close to finishing law school. Two semesters, one internship, and I’m done. That's my sole focus. Men, intimacy, relationships…not in the cards for me. I had made peace with that, or at least I thought I had.

Until him.
He’s my new boss.
And he has me wondering things I would have never thought possible.

One Kiss.

One Question.

One Night.

Now everything has changed.

Do happily ever afters really exist?
Can I truly let go and live freely?
Or is it true what they say?
Your past always has a way of finding you.

So I got to ARC this debut novel & I thank the heavens above that I did. This book left me speechless! You exceeded my expectations & more! When I read the blurb of this, I definitely thought “I need to get my hands on this ASAP!”.

We have Charlotte (Lottie) who was in abusive relationship with her Ex Gregory in HS. Not being able to take it anymore, she starts a plan to move out of town & leaves a note & the people she loves behind.
Six years later & she has accomplished so much on her own. She’s almost done with law school.
2 more semesters & 1 internship & that’s it. That’s her sole focus. Men & relationships are out of the question. That simple right?
We have Gavin who’s been cheated on by his ex & doesn’t do love anymore. He’s devoted to his work & that’s how he wants it. Until one night, he spots her at a club. He instantly knows he’s done for. Unknowingly he’s her boss for her internship. The connection is there so how long before they act on it? Can they both learn to let go of the past & move towards a future & perhaps together? Will the past find a way to the present? Do happily ever afters really exist?
Such an amazing & brilliantly written novel. Gavin & Lottie are just
*Chef’s Kiss*
Their chemistry is undeniable & those scenes are just 🥵
The way Gavin treats Lottie has me swooning! Can he get any more perfect?!😩
My hearts does aches for Lottie especially because of not having her family around but when the secrets starts coming out, I was SHOCKED then right when I thought everything was going good you hit me with another twist. I was punching the air. Literally!😮‍💨

“Loving someone, the right someone, and having them love you in return, really love you, makes you feel like you have discovered the world’s rarest treasure, giving you a euphoric feeling that makes you feel untouchable.”

❤️‍🔥 Dual POV romance
❤️‍🔥 Swoony MC
❤️‍🔥 Strong FMC
❤️‍🔥 Healing your past
❤️‍🔥 Office romance

Overall It was perfect read! I can’t wait for Logan’s & Grace’s story next!

When Enough Is Enough

A tale as old as time. So many young women meet what seems like the guy of their dreams until those dreams become nightmares.

Charlotte was young, naïve and had low self esteem. So when the All Star Quarterback of her H.S. football team took notice of her; she felt like the luckiest girl around.......until she wasn't.

Charlotte's problems began in high school. With the feeling of every girl around her being better for Gregory than herself; she allowed his abuse. She allowed his disrespect. She allowed his cheating because she didn't think highly enough for herself to have better.

Thankfully Charlotte had enough sense to do what so many women failed to do. She got away. At 18 she ran away, went to college, landed a dream internship and began living life. Charlotte stay away from men, not trusting them and still suffering from PTSD.

Things changed when she started working for Gavin. It wasn't easy for him because he had to breakdown her walls and build her up. Gavin loved Charlotte through her pain and was patient enough to wait for her to realize that she was safe with him.

Of course we can't enjoy good things without dealing with pain and drama. After 6 years Charlotte comes face to face with the very demon she tried to exorcise from her life.

Time is of the essence and decisions need to be made. Do you hold onto freedom and watch the ones you love suffer the consequences or accept defeat so that the ones you love can live?

As triggering as this story is for some it serves as a reminder that you can experience love, safety and security but you first have to make up your mind that enough is enough and fight for the love and freedom you deserve. Giving up is NEVER an option.

A page turning debut novel by EA Joy filled with steam, chemistry and twists I never saw coming.

Charlotte finds herself in Phoenix, fleeing her past and ready for a new start. So close to finishing law school, the last thing Charlotte needs is a distraction. And then she meets her new boss...

I loved the chemistry that these two had, the life Charlotte built for herself in Arizona and the friendship between her and Grace. This book kept me on toes, was filled with lots of steam (wow!) and kept me reading until the very end.

What a debut this is!
I'll admit I got a bit teary very early on. My heart broke for Charlotte.
The chemistry and tension between these two is amazing.
Of course a few plot twists thrown in for good measure.
What I will say though, this story is one of beautiful growth, care and love. It was lovely to read.
Charlotte and Grace's friendship is everything!
Can't wait to see what happens in the rest of this series! Congratulations on your book baby

This is such a lovely story!

Check your triggers- there is a content warning at the start of the book- but if you’re ok with them, I highly recommend this one!

After suffering at the hands of a verbally and physically abusive boyfriend, 18 year old Charlotte leaves behind her family and flees to safety, working hard to start over. 6 years later, she meets Gavin in a club. They only chat for a few minutes but both feel a connection. A few days later they meet again- in the conference room of Gavin’s law firm where Charlotte is starting her internship!

I can’t believe this is the author’s debut- to me it read like the writing of a much more experienced author. There were a few twists I didn’t see coming and parts I expected to be predictable where I thought I knew what was going to happen I was often wrong!

What a wonderful 1st book for this author. Absolutely talented. Her writing is so good, she pulls you into it and makes you feel all the emotions the characters feel.

Charlotte was such beautiful soul, that was tormented by her past. She had to escape and leave all she loved behind.
6 years on and she is finally living again. But she still struggles to be in a relationship.
Gavin is a just as amazing and hot!!!
Their chemistry is so hot you can feel it, it's surreal.

When she meets Gavin again heis her boss. They struggle to fight this chemistry between them.
Can Gavin give her the peace and security Charlotte needs?
Can Charlotte finally heal and start to love another man?
Can they overcome all the obstacles thrown at them and find their HEA finally?

Give it a read and find and out. You will not be disappointed.
Book had so much feels, it breaks your heart and mends it. There was drama and whole lot of steam.
Can't wait to read more from this author.

Ahhhh!!! So Beautiful!

This story was easy to read but very in depth.

Charlotte “Lottie” Swanson is not weak but is very much suffering from Battered Woman’s Syndrome and until she sees Gavin she doesn’t even truly SEE men.

She spends about 30 minutes with him one evening and they connected immediately. They run into each other again in the most unexpected of places and that sets off a chain of events for them that are fun and interesting and beautiful.

I love how she moves to Phoenix for a job opportunity for her BFF and finds her true love who becomes her true north, she finds friends in his friends and a new family with him also.

I loved how there were some pieces of her past that had to be resolved and boy were they resolved lol

The epilogue was absolutely beautiful also! I am now heading for Grace and Logan’s story!!

4.5/5 ⭐️ | Dual POV: Gavin & Charlotte

This was wonderful debut book from EA Joy! I really enjoyed this workplace romance!

In the prologue we learn that Charlotte was in abusive relationship in high school. This causes her to leave home at 18 with only a note left behind for her family. The story then jumps forward 6 years and Charlotte has worked so hard to build a life for herself. She is working at a bar and is studying to become a lawyer. She meets Gavin on a night out with her best friend Grace. She doesn’t think she will see him again but gets a shock when Gavin is her new boss at her new internship!

Lost Before You was such sweet love story about healing and learning to trust again. I really liked how Gavin was truly there for Charlotte – whether it was just to listen or hold her hand when she needed it. There were also a few twists that I didn’t see coming!

Lost Before You is now available on Kindle Unlimited!

Oh my goodness! This debut novel exceeded all of my expectations. The author's writing style was truly captivating and the way everything fell into place for the characters was simply perfect.

Charlotte, like many other women and sometimes men, had to endure domestic abuse. As a shy girl in high school, she was thrilled when the popular quarterback showed interest in her. Unfortunately, he quickly turned abusive and Charlotte was forced to leave her family behind at 18 years old in order to escape him.

After catching his ex-girlfriend in bed with his roommate, Gavin had no intention of falling in love again. Trust was hard to come by after that experience. However, when he met Charlotte, he couldn't resist her charm.
.
Charlotte was a beautiful soul who had to leave behind everything she loved in order to escape her past. Six years later, she's finally starting to live again but struggles with opening herself up to a new relationship. Gavin was just as amazing and hot as expected and the chemistry between them was electric. Despite her hesitations towards strangers, Charlotte felt drawn to Gavin and eventually let him in, trusting him with her heart

Watching Gavin help Charlotte heal from her past traumas was heartwarming. The ending was full of surprises that left me on the edge of my seat.

I'm already eagerly anticipating the next book in the series which will follow Logan (Gavin's friend) and Grace (Charlotte's friend). This author is incredibly talented and has a way of pulling readers into the story and feeling every emotion the characters do. This book is an emotional rollercoaster that will tug at your heartstrings and leave you feeling satisfied. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future

Many times we fall in love with the illusion that it will be a great relationship. Not knowing that it will become a dangerous and scary one for many. Such as was the case for Charlotte. Many are not brave enough to take matters into our own hands and say enough is enough. To be able to escape a toxic relationship is never easy. Charlotte knew she had to do this in order to save herself. Even if by doing so it would cost giving up her family. From that brave decision Charlotte was able to find herself, true friendship, her career, and her forever love. I fell in love with Gavin. The way he treated and respected Charlotte is the way a man should treat his lady. Their relationship was a beautiful one. It took both of them to trust each other one hundred percent. I was surprised by many events that happened in the book. It honestly had me crying in a couple of spots. I really didn’t want this book to end and it definitely earned a spot of one of my favorite books I’ve read. Lost Before You is a story I highly recommend. If I could give this book a rating higher than five stars I definitely would.

I loved reading this steamy contemporary romance, and definitely recommend it. I could not put it down. The author brings the characters' emotions to life on the pages, and you cannot help but feel them while reading the book.

thoroughly enjoyed this book. The growth of Lottie’s character through all the tough choices she made was inspiring. While I loved Gavin and Lottie’s love story, I am obsessed with Lottie’s friendship with Grace.

4.5 stars.

Wow! I can’t believe this was a debut novel. It was beautifully written and everything wrapped up for the main characters.

Charlotte suffered what many women (and sometimes men) suffer — domestic abuse. In high school, she was the shy girl, so when the star quarterback took interest in her, she was happy and gave him a chance. He quickly changed and started abusing her because — well, there’s no good reason for abuse ever. When she turned 18, she left her family and everything behind to escape him.

Gavin had no plans to fall in love when he caught his ex-girlfriend sleeping with his roommate. It makes sense as he would have developed trust issues. But when he saw Charlotte, he was instantly captivated.

Charlotte was wary of strangers, but for some reason, she let Gavin in and trusted him.

The love Gavin had for Charlotte was so adorable! I loved how he helped her slowly heal from her PTSD and face her past. Also, at the end, there were so many twists! I wasn’t surprised at some, but others shocked me.

I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book with Logan (Gavin’s friend) and Grace (Charlotte’s friend).

ALERT: I have a new book boyfriend, and his name is Gavin Davis.

First of all, can we just talk about how gorgeous and unique this cover is? And once you read this fantastic book, you will see the significance of the fireworks. 💖💖💖

Now, let's get to it. It's hard to believe that this is E.A. Joy's debut novel. From the very first page, she had my emotions swelling inside my chest, and it didn't stop until THE END. This author puts her heart on every page, and the way she writes has you feeling every emotion that the characters feel. And there are so many emotions. Fear and regret at first. And then comes the good stuff. Friendship, laughter, and love. So much love.

It takes a while for the FMC, Charlotte, to get to the love stage because she's been hurt so badly by her ex. She doesn't trust men, and who could blame her? He hurt her in practically every way a man could hurt a woman: Physically, emotionally, and psychologically. My heart ached for her, and that's the sign of a wonderful writer - making you feel what her characters are feeling.

Enter Gavin Davis. He's also carrying a lot after the woman he thought he loved broke his trust. Add to that, the pressure of living up to the standards of the Davis family and he really isn't interested in a relationship with a woman.

But Charlotte (Lottie) is different. From the first time he sees her, he is drawn to her like a moth to a flame. Turns out, she's a new intern at his law firm. Uh oh! But he can't stay away from her, and I adored how this author turned him from an unapologetic bachelor into an entirely smitten man when Lottie came into his life. He was soooo dreamy and gives her the space she needs while also giving his unending support. He is truly book-boyfriend material in every way - including in the bedroom.

Let's talk about the bedroom scenes for a second. I love seeing a debut author who doesn't shy away from the spicy stuff - because I do like me some spice! EA Joy did a phenomenal job with this aspect of the book. She can write a s3x scene that will turn your cheeks red while also maintaining some really deep emotions. Charlotte and Gavin's first time had both, and I loved how she trusted him since her prior s3xual experiences had not been good.

If you love a strong FMC who makes very difficult decisions and has to fight to gain her own self back, then you will adore Lottie. And if you love a dirty-talking man who takes care of his woman in every way, then we're just going to have to fight over Gavin because he's MINE. We duel at midnight!

Throw in some hilarious side-characters (I'm looking at you, Grace and Logan), very entertaining banter (especially the texts), and a jaw-dropping twist near the end, and I was hooked.

Keep writing, Ms. Joy, because you are an amazingly talented storyteller.

I came across the author's page a while back and decided to give her a follow. When she posted ARC sign-ups, I thought, "Hey, why not?" I'm so glad that I did!!! The storyline is fabulous and nothing like I've ever seen before!
I want to give a special shout out to the COMMUNICATION in this book! I have a hard time reading books where miscommunication is used for third-act breakups, and this book does not! Gavin and Charlotte are always communicating, even if it hurt them!🥺😍
Also, I love authors who support other authors! If you read the Acknowledgment at the end, one of my favorite authors, VH Nicolson, helped/supported the author and this book! Isn't the cover just beautiful!?!? 🥰❤️

I loved this book from the start and it gets you not wanting to put it down.

Charlotte after being in an abusive relationship for 2 years, Charlotte decides to just disappear, not telling her mum or grandparents.

Charlotte has been gone for 6 years and has not called her mum since even though she has thought about her a lot, she has done everything herself and put herself through college and law school and she works at a bar to get there though.

Gavin works at his dads law firm with his best friends Logan and James, all he does is work after his ex did the dirty on him with a roommate at uni and that was years ago, so he told himself he would not put himself through it again.

Gavin's friends say they are going out for the night and there is no getting out of it.

Charlotte and Grace got to a new club and they get into the vip area they are having a drink, when Gavin and his friends walk in and charlotte cant believe how she feels when she sees Gavin, as the night wears on Grace goes to dance and she sits by herself after a while Gavin comes to talk to her but some spooks her and she gets out of there before Gavin can really say anything.

Charlotte has not been sleeping well most of the weekend as she keeps thinking of Gavin, but she starts as an intern at a law firm. When she walks into the meeting she can't believe that Gavin is sitting there.

Gavin can not believe who just walked in to be an intern Charlotte who he was not stopping thinking about all weekend.

They can't keep their hands off each other and it turns into more and with the strength of Gavin, Charlotte seems to start coming out of herself.

With everything going so well, things start to go wrong from something from Charlotte's past and Gavin's ex trying to get between them.

This is the first book I read from EA Joy and let me tell you I enjoyed the story. I first want to say that I loved the cover for this book.

Lost Before You is an office romance trope with a swoony MC and a strong FMC. This book gives us a glimpse of what Charlotte went through during her abusive relationship with her ex.

The chemistry between the two characters is undeniable and the steamy scenes are hot 🥵🥵.

Lost Before You is everything you want in a books. The twist and turns are shocking. There’s spice and just enough drama to have you at the edge of your seat. I truly cannot wait for the next book.

EA Joy did an amazing job with her characters as they both grew a lot and matured. They healed from their past struggles and experiences.

Lost Before You by EA Joy is definitely ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was such a beautifully mind bending thriller that pulled at your heartstrings at every step. It was sexy, compelling, and so emotion-filled... that months after reading, I am still thinking about this book. (Sorry EA that I didn't post a review until now).

This was my first encounter with EA Joy and a first read of anything by her and I was so thrilled to read this story. (I very much look forward to your next book). The twists and turns of it, the human connection, the sexual attraction, and human fear that can completely consume our every thought and action.

This story will make you empathetic, and it will make your heart bleed. Of course it'll turn you on and make you believe in love, but for me, the compelling nature and vulnerability of this story mixed with the cerebral nature of it... it has remained with me for many months, which speaks volumes. It's a must-read!

Debut book by EA Joy and what a beautful book it is.

Charlotte runs away from home after graduating school to get away from her abusive boyfriend of three years. She left her mum and grandparents behind with no word of where she was going.

She spends six years working hard to become a lawyer and starts an internship, little did she know that Gavin who she had met in a club was her boss. It is pretty much love at first sight for them both but she's scared to trust and questions everything.

It's a beautiful story with all the feels, steam, spice and humour. Fabulous debut and I highly recommend.
