A classic spy story in the John Buchan mould. If you liked The Thirty-Nine Steps, you'll probably like this one. The Thirty-Nine Steps was set in the period leading up to the First World War. This one is set in the Second World War and the Cold War. The protagonist, Mike Ward, is a latter-day Richard Hannay and has similar adventures, many of them in similar settings.

Picked up at Bookfest. The plot is based on supposed WW2 Nazi plans to invade and conquer Britain. It's a bit silly and unbelievable, readers will need to suspend disbelief. How does an army captain get so deeply into the investigation? Why does he involve his girlfriend even after an attempt has been made on his life? Although the idea interested me at first, I soon began to feel bored, and wanting it to be over. The political conspiracy is a bit predictable.
Published 1989 and shows its age.
