Magic, betrayal, adventure … enjoyed by fans of Leigh Bargudo and Sarah J. Maas. A young adult epic fantasy with a love-triangle, mystery, secrets, and twists. A magical and intriguing sword and sorcery adventure.
Author of sweet stories full of hope, heart, and happily-ever-afters.
Brittney and her family live in their own piece of heaven in the Oregon countryside. They stay busy with their menagerie of silly horses, cackling chickens, wooly sheep, and two very naughty goats. When Brittney isn’t writing, she’s riding or reading. And she wishes she could do all three at the same time.
This was book was far exciting than book 1, and I had fun reading it. Book 1 has to be read to understand the characters, as the book continues from the first story.
Brittney Joy has done a great job with her female main characters Both the heroines were strong and Nova was absolute kickass. Told in alternate POV of Nova and Jade, the story caught my delight at all the right places. The author maintained a steady pace once the story started. Nova went with Chael to find her family and Jade went on to becoming the Queen.
Their world as described by the author was larger than life and the action sequence quite made my pulse spike. Nova still remained my favorite, Jade, not so much. A few niggles, the story meandered for some time in the middle,, that could be because I didn't like Jade much. It could be purely me.
@kidlitexchange #partner: Overrun by @brittneyjoybooks. Releases April 9, 2019. Overrun kicks off exactly where Overruled ended and never stops moving. A good deal thicker than its predecessor, Overrun gives us more action, more tension, and more characters to root for. With the page length, there is more time for the magic system to be fleshed out and it is unique and complex. I never would have thought up the concept of the earthen. The girls go on separate journeys—Jade as a new queen, Nova to find her family—and at the heart of both their stories is Chael, the royal guard. Their stories intercept in a way you’ll never see coming. Overrun is a book of sea monsters, ghost magic, deceit, mystery, and the complicated strands that make us family. The world-building is wonderful and I love the culture of the lugos. Overrun releases through @brittneyjoybooks on April 9th! Thank you Brittney and @kidlitexchange for a review copy of the book—all opinions are my own.

I think I enjoyed OverRun even more than the first book, OverRuled. I am quite taken with the main characters of this series. The action and romance was invigorating. I also loved that it explored different types of love and relationships. The pace was fabulous and made this a simple, enjoyable read.
I hope their are more books to come, whether in this series or set in the same world. I am fascinated by the magic from this series. I think there is so much that could be explored from this world.
This book takes off right were OverRuled finished. It's been a while since I read it so I had some difficulties remembering what happened at first.
I like this better than the first book because here we get more of the world building and the characters. Nova is still my favourite, but I now understand Jade and her actions a lot more, and she grows as a character. I wasn't sure about Chael earlier and Nova doesn't trust him in the beginning. Eventually she realises that he does everything to protect her - even risk his own life.
We receive a great revelation in this book, something that changes all their lives, and I'm looking forward to reading the next book to find out how they cope with it!
*I recieved this book free from the author for my honest review*
This is definitely a fun fast read for anyone looking for a break from fae or Vampires, but still wanting fantasy.
***Swoon*** I think I may be in love with Chael. Sweet, devoted, caring, and slightly damaged.
Nova is heated and kind, but definitely lets her temper control her sense often. However, even when I thought she needed to simmer down some, I enjoyed that fiery side.
Jade is slightly crazy, and she drove me nuts with the expectations she created in her mind of how her and Chaels past went. And I kept screaming to myself, YOU kissed HIM, he didn't kiss you crazy lady!! But then I had to remind myself that we girls definitely see what we want to see when it comes to love.
Vaughn and Orion definitely caught me off guard. I expected different roles for both of them.
I am a bit confused though.... will there be a 3rd book? I feel like although we didn't have a huge cliffhanger that I'm left unfinished. That I need more closure. Don't leave me having Brittney!!!!
OverRun is the second installment in the young adult fantasy series The OverRuled. It follows from the events of the first book OverRuled. It picks up where the events of the first book left off. I found it to be a more entertaining read than the first book. The author did a good job providing the character development and magical world development which I found lacking in OverRuled. The story is told in chapters from alternating points of view of Jade and Nova, the primary female characters. It opens up with Jade taking the first steps in her rise to queen and Nova on the run to find her family with Chael. Jade's and Nova's world collide in a number of ways leading to physical and emotional scars that will take some time to heal. Both the characters go through evolutionary phases when it comes to their magic and personal relationships. The book was written with a good pace. Great follow-up to the first.
Jade and Nova’s adventure continues. I enjoyed how they slowly learned to trust each other and learn that together family is stronger. Both are changing as they learn the secrets connected to who they are. I can’t wait to see the next installment and where it will lead the girls, Chael, Vaughn, Asher, and Orion. And I wonder what drama King Mortuus will cause? I enjoyed this book even more than the first. I received a free ARC for an honest review.
Once again, thoroughly enjoyed this author. I thought the plot flowed seamlessly from the first to the second book, and I feel that it could do the same into a third if that’s what is coming. I love the imagery, I specifically highlighted a line comparing running legs to the spokes on the wheel of a runaway cart.

The Story: The book picks up right where Over Ruled left off. Jade is the new queen and Nova is on the run, trying to find her family with Chael at her side. We get the story from both Jade and Nova's point of view as they each have their own things to come to terms with. Jade has a kingdom to rule, but can't get past the fact that Chael left her for Nova. And Nova, she's on a journey that proves dangerous at every turn. Their paths cross in many ways they don't see coming.
What I loved: The characters are so well written and well fleshed out that it's easy to root for them against anything. With an easy writing style, the book sucks you in and then keeps hold with events happening at rapid speed, never allowing for a dull moment. It was an exciting and interesting read from end to end.
What was just okay: It's been a long time since book one released and I spent the first part of the book just trying, and never quite succeeding, to remember everything that was going on.
Final Verdict: A well-written and exciting story you won't want to put down.
WoW no let down for book 2 this book picks up where book one left off and the main characters grow before your eyes , the pace is fantastic and the world building and magic are great . If you enjoyed book 1 you will enjoy book 2 just as much of not more . Brittney Joy has something fantastic here and you the reader don't want to miss out on a fantastic series . If you haven't bought book one you need , and I already know if you did your going to buy book 2 , so stop reading this review and start the book you will be so glad you did 😁😁😁😁😁
After reading this book, I wanted to write and post this review to share my honest experiences toward the story. An amazing continuation to the OverRuled series. I can’t begin to describe how much I enjoyed reading this book. It was an enthralling, captivating fantasy read that keeps you hooked until the very last page. Every page is an incredible journey, the plot is so thick and captivating, along with a cast of amazing, diverse characters. Like the previous, we get chapters told from both Nova and Jade’s perspectives. There were a few plot twists I totally wasn’t expecting, which made the ride much more enjoyable. After reading both books in this series, I think I found a new favourite author to read. I would definitely recommend reading this, you will not regret it! I am eagerly looking forward to the release of book 3.
Nova, girl…who knew you had so many surprises hidden up your sleeves?! Everywhere I looked, it was “surprise, I’m awesome, wait till you get a load of this!”
I really enjoyed this book, and in fact I liked it better than the first one, not that the first one was some wilted daisy or anything, just that this one had all the bells and whistles: adventure, romance, character development, twists and turns, and a greater display of magic.
But, Nova, lets talk about Jade, “umm…I told you to keep an eye on her last time you rode off into the sunset, but you didn’t listen, did you, now see where that got you? That child has some issues to work out, she’s a mess, but, you know, maybe there’s light at the end of the tunnel after all…we’ll see. I like your new friends though and, Chael, hellooo…I like the way ya’ll roll.”
Anyway, this was a fun little galloping romp with Nova and the gang, not to mention a few crazies. I’m looking forward to the third one. I feel there’s some sneaky stuff that’s still left to go down.

I wish I could give this book a 3.5. The first 2/3 of the book was a 3, while the last part of the book was a 4. As with the first book of the series, the story really picks up when Nova and Jade are together. There is so much more action, character growth, and fascinating realms and magic when they interact.
The book starts where Overruled (book 1) left off - Jade is now Queen of Sterling and Nova is looking for her family. I understand why the main characters are apart and have their own storylines, but they stay apart for a good portion of the book. There is some action in the beginning, but it is mundane compared to what they face together.
I really loved the new realms and magic that were introduced in Overrun. There is a lot of discussion about earthans and I hope to see that fleshed out more as the series progresses. The magic in this series is so unique!
I will continue reading this series because I do like the magic, the world, and the heroines.

OverRun is the second book in Brittney Joy's OverRuled series. The world that has been created for this series if very unique and interesting and I have enjoyed the earthen aspect of the storyline. In this installment, Queen Jade has just begun her rein and needs to have a female heir within the next two years or lose her magic. Meanwhile, her crush has left the kingdom-so naturally she leaves to find him. Complicated relationships are revealed, and shocking twists happen as they journey across difficult terrain to accomplish their quest. Although I personally found this book to be a little slower than the first, I still really enjoyed it and am looking forward to seeing where book three takes these characters.
Book one spent some time building up the world and the characters. Now, in book 2, we see those characters continue on their story from where it left off in book 1. There is so much happening in this book - I couldn't put it down!
I thoroughly enjoyed book 1 and see these characters, and then I got to join them on their journey again with book 2. I can't wait to see what happens with book 3!
Overrun is the follow up to Overruled. I was lucky enough to get an advanced review copy from Brittney Joy herself.
While I ended up liking this book much better then the first it was still a big struggle to read until around the half way point. I nearly dnfed it around 10, 15 and 30% before it actually started to make any sense and have drive behind the story. I do think the writing has improved from the first and there was the absence of the phrases that marred overruled.
Over all Jade was the most annoying character right up until 90% of the book, I could have done without her chapters and just focused on Nova and Chael. I liked how we got more of a back story for those 2 and the secrets surrounding Nova's magic was revealed. I would have liked a more in depth look into her magic especially once the ending surprise was revealed as I think there were a few instances throughout the book that made the connection but the ending seemed very rushed again.
What I feel happens is Brittney gets so caught up in the lead up to the story that the starting drags with useless information and plot points that don't end up mattering to the overall story. The same happened with the first book and it gets to the climax but so much of the book has been taken up by other things that you only get 10% of what should be explored.
