My daughter, who is eight, usually reads to me these days. But last night was one of those rare occasions when she asked me to read a book to her and she chose How About A Hug. I must admit I really loved this book not only because it has great illustrations and short and sweet text, but because I come from a long line of serious huggers. I even like the dedication which read, "In memory of my uncle Bill, who always gave me Big hugs!" Having lost my dad last year I completely understood where this book was coming from and I make sure I take every opportunity to hug the family and friends that are with me still!

I'm a naturally affectionate person of sorts, which somehow has drawn controversy where I live. I hug, and people in church have taken offense, considering a hug is totally harmless. I wish others would know that. Thankfully, my attachment to said church is no more, so the first chance I got upon finding this book I jumped at it and read it with delight that someone out there seems to know how I feel about hugs and love, even if she doesn't know I exist! It's a charming tribute to hugs and to how everyone can benefit from it. So my message to the uncaring world out there: don't be so scared: GIVE A HUG! JOIN THE HUG FORCE! It's a revolution whose time has come!

This warm and fuzzy book uses bright illustrations and engaging dialougue to keep children guessing the many reasons for a hug. In this story we see hugs can be for scraped knees,cold good mornings, making up in a fight, and many other reasons.

Hugs are important to emotional development. Hugs make people feel good. A hug is an expression of love and care and can provide comfort and security to another person especially children.

I liked this book because it was expressive. Just like the book, A Hug for You, it showed emotion and love. This book would be a good book to teach about having compassion for others. However, I would address appropriate touching as well.

A sweet book to teach predictions and a rudimentary introduction to descriptions/adjectives. The types of hugs mentioned are all different and applied to different situations, teaching children to describe. A great book to teach types (of things)!

This is a short book with easy ext and good vibrant pictures. Its a sweet book for a bed time story, or a book to teach the importance of kindness and love.
