New York Times bestselling authors Hannah Howell and Lynsay Sands once again combine their talents to deliver their most thrilling book yet. Set in the rugged Scottish Highlands, here is the spellbinding tale of two men destined to live by night with a hunger only the blood of Outsiders can quench--and a passion only two extraordinary women can satisfy. . . Embrace The Dark Side. . .
Cousins Heming MacNachton and Tearlach MacAdie are bound by the same blood, the same ancient curse, and now the same quest: to search out the enemies of their clan--hunters who consider them soul-less demons and intend to exterminate them. But no sooner have Heming and Tearlach begun than they are drugged, separated, and taken captive. One is brought deep into the borderlands of Scotland, the other, in the dreary depths of Northern England. Caged and weakened, only two brave women give them hope. . .
Brona Kerr and Lady Lucy Blytheswood are irresistibly drawn to the mysterious prisoners. Together, the women resolve to save them. In doing so, they will safeguard the clan's future and their own. For they are promised to cruel men who will do anything to possess them and the status that comes with them. Now Brona and Lucy must cross perilous terrain to fight for their lives--and for the men with whom they discover an eternal passion they never imagined. . .
LYNSAY SANDS is the nationally bestselling author who is known for her hysterical historicals as well as the popular Argeneau/Rogue Hunter vampire series. With her witty and charming personality, Sands describes books as, “Waking dreams or stories, tales to amuse, entertain and distract us from everyday life.” She’s been writing stories since grade school and considers herself incredibly lucky to be able to make a career out of it. Her hope is that readers can get away from their everyday stress through her stories, and if there are occasional uncontrollable fits of laughter, that’s just a big bonus. Two stories. Both pretty disappointing. Not sure which was written by which author, but I have to wonder WHY does Hannah Howell like to stab her heroines??? Is it really necessary to the story? To me it's pretty gross and didn't add anything to the plot. Hemming the idiot and Brona the unlucky & Tearlach the dweeb and Lucy the unlucky. So First off, Hemming and Tearlach are Scottish vampires and get jumped by anti-vampire creeps outside an Inn. They are both rescued by their lasses (that was the good part of the stories), and then it's a game of cat and mouse to elude the bad guys' search parties. The stories are told separately although they happen in the same timeline. I thought Tearlach was pretty darn unromantic and useless. Hemming was better, but still pretty stupid. The writing of both stories felt lazy with very poor world building. Gaping holes in logic you could drive a truck through. I'm a little peeved as i went and bought the next two books at the same time as this one. Foolish me.
🥰🥰
Boa Leitura... Good Reading... 🎀😘
Impossible not to love... Impossível não amar... 🤩🤩🤩
Both shorts are an utter waste of words, nearly anything else would be a better allocation of your time. They’re readable enough though, so they get an extra star for not being Actively Awful, despite the incessant repetitive writing. Though surely passively bad is more than enough.
Hannah Howell's story is about another son of Jankyn and Efrica, Henning. His Lady is Brona who is being wooed by force by the man who is first to her uncle. She finds Henning and three other men in the dungeon and frees them using her knowledge of secret pathways and catacombs within the castle. This is another great story in this series. Brona is courageous and loyal. The story rolls along at a reasonable pace with plenty of action.
Lynsay Sands' story is about Tearlach who is the only offspring of Connall MacAdie and Eva from The Eternal Highlander. Connall is cousin to the MacNachtons. Tearlach's Lady, Lucy, is imprisoned with him in a dungeon because she's being forced to marry against her will, but manages to free herself by picking the locks with a piece of metal she finds. She then helps both of them escape. I didn't like this story as much as the other because it starts with her brother being murdered and I also didn't like the scene where she steals a gown while a woman is bathing. That scene was not necessary at all. This story limped along a bit. I did love the couple who came to their rescue, Betty who had been her nurse and her husband William the stable master.
October 2017: Skipping Lynsay Sands this time.
March 2020: Should have skipped Lynsay Sands again. I'm halfway through and though I like both protagonists, I've tired of the silliness used to add humor. It is contrived and doesn't add to the story. So I'm done with Tearlach and Lucy even though I like them.
Hannah Howell didn't seem all too interested in writing vampire stories. And oddly enough Lynsay Sands wasn't that much better. Her Argeneau Family Series is much better.I wouldn't have felt anything for the characters if it wasn't for the situation. There wasn't much buildup for them. And the whole book was the same story with 4 people. 2 were the main characters in the first half and the other two were the main in the second half. But all in all it was still better than watching re-runs on tv.
A little elderly lady gave me this book after I had told her I enjoyed vampire books, lol. I'm surprised the book even had a sexual scene or few in it considering her age!
It had two stories; intertwined. I found it well written & enjoyed the read, (although I do like a little more in depth sexual details in my book, lol!)
Once more Hannah Howell create a good paranormal fiction with lots of action, adventure, hot sex love forever... and a great author anthology collaboration
I started the series with great hope with two of my most favorite medieval authors. The plots have such a great potential to be extremely good series if the characters relation were developed well. However, this isn’t the case for this series. As I continue on from Hannah story of Bridget&Cathal then Lynsay story of Eva&Connal I have such a great expectation with strong characters than developed from this 2 stories. I must say that it’s because Hannah & Lynsay writing that keep me continue on but it is quite clear that although this a joint series but authors were writing clearly writing the story separately. So I feel quite disappointed 😔 it make me feel it could be more not just the main characters but the secondary characters that could be developed together. The worst part is on book 2 Highland Vampire which features Hannah Howell and 2 other’s authors. I’m not saying it’s not good if Individually but other than Jankyn story that written by Hannah, the other two stories were 2 completely different story ( nothing related to the McNachton) my review is based on overall I read from book1-4 (which is going to be my last)
Blood Feud by Hannah Howell Not bad. Not especially good either. Just... there. Neither the characters nor the story line grabbed hold and drew me in. It was an enjoyable read, but not outstanding. By itself this would be three stars.
The Capture by Lynsay Sands A notch better than the previous story, but again nothing really outstanding.
Conclusion - Both of these felt 'formulaic.' Man is captured by enemies. Man is rescued by woman. Together they escape said enemies. And so on. Nothing terribly exciting.
The two stories in this book was so long and boring I couldn’t keep my head from drooping and hitting the table.
The entire series at this point is just one looooong cross country marathon, traveling the same trope, hurtling to the exact same finish. All that’s required is to swap out the names.
If you’ve read the first two, you’ve read them all. I’ve just invited myself to be tortured, thinking as the series went along things would be different and original. It wasn’t, and it isn’t.
Two Scottish vampires are captured by hunters and separated to later be rescued by their fated mates in this uncomfortable two-part romance featuring blood kinks.
Thoughts: - Two parts makes each story too fast-paced - Uncomfortable smut with excess flowery language (mostly in the first part) - Phonetic spellings makes reading a chore - Abrupt endings in both stories - Only one likable female protagonist
This is the third in a series written by Hannah Howell and Lynsay Sands. The two of them have very different styles, but I like them both.
This is the story of 2 cousins who are kidnapped and tortured because of the stories told about their families. They each meet a woman who helps them escape, and so much more. Great fun.
Two vampire romances in one novel. I thought they were both equally good. I like how they were connected, and each author wrote about one of the cousins being held captive. I enjoyed this book with sexy Highlanders.
I like the bravery and tenacious hold on life that the men and women in these stories demonstrate. Lo, and behold, through kidnapping, torture, starvation, dungeon life, and escape on the run, love blooms. Truly, an adventure...
Great book! Great Authors! I loved the characters in each story and loved the strong female characters in each story. Tearlach and Hemming had great stories. I wish that these stories were easier to find on audio. They are wonderful combination of historical and paranormal romance. Loving it.
Amazing story about two cousins who are captured and while gaining their freedom, they both gained brides. Two parts to the book written by two different authors but the stories of the cousins flow well. Both stories have strong leading ladies.
My grandma gave this book to me and said it was and I quote “ a realllyyyy good one”. I wouldn’t really recommend but my grandma does so do with that what you may. Thanks.
Another wonderful love story times 2. Danger, torture, hiding, running, heroes saving damsels in distress, damsels saving heroes, and very happy endings. Excellent series!
This was a nice, quick read. I wasn't blown away by either read, but I think they were nice for a rainy day read. I love the idea of vampire highlanders.
