This book was a compilation of three novels. The first two, Duncan's Bride by Linda Howard and Chain Lightning by Elizabeth Lowell were 5 star books, but I was disappointed in Popcorn and Kisses by Kasey Michaels. It lacked the character and plot development that the first two books had.

This rating is only on the first book Duncan's bride. I had to return the library book before finishing the second story:(

I've read many, if not most, of Elizabeth Lowell's books but this one is one of my all time favorite books. It pulls me in and makes me feel for that characters every time I read it and I laugh and cry too. I love this book! :) It is my go to book when I need a break or to feel better.

Three sweet romances with likeable main characters. Enough tension and past histories to be interesting and make points.

DUNCAN’S BRIDE (Linda Howard) –Still reeling from a costly divorce years before, Reese Duncan wanted to marry again. However, as the only hand on his ranch, he didn’t have time to court. Finally, he decided to put a personal ad in several newspapers.

Duncan got 3 replies. His first visitor was Madelyn Patterson, a New Yorker who was a much a clotheshorse as his first wife. Although there was significant chemistry between them, Reese told her she wouldn’t do.

Once Duncan met Madelyn, he wasn’t interested in the other two. He knew it would be a mistake to marry Madelyn; she was too much like his first wife.

CHAIN LIGHTNING (Elizabeth Lowell) After an airplane crash into the ocean which cost Mandy Blythe-Cameron her husband and unborn child, she settled into a job far from airplanes and oceans.

Through the machinations of her employer, Mandy found herself on an island off the Great Barrier Reef with Damon Sutter, a troubleshooter for the foundation where they both worked. This forced Mandy to face her fears – if they didn’t kill her first.

POPCORN AND KISSES (Kasey Michaels) This is the only author with which I was unfamiliar. However, this is an absolutely charming story about a drive-in theatre that has outlived its glory days. Zachary St. Clair has bought it in a group of theatres and is horrified to see the disaster he’s purchased.

This puts him at odds with the manager and granddaughter of the drive-in’s builder, Sharon Wheeler. They lock horns early and often. There is so much detail in this story that I learned a great deal about drive-ins; they were fascinating and labor-intensive.

All the stories were worth reading but POPCORN AND KISSES was special.

All three books are equally enjoyable reads, something not often found in combined publications like this. I bought it for the Elizabeth Lowell contribution, but thoroughly enjoyed the Linda Howard book as well as the Kasey Michaels. I first read Elizabeth Lowell's Chain Lightning some years ago before I started scuba diving again and found that my experiences over the past few years with scuba diving really heightened my enjoyment this time around. I understood exactly what she was describing even though I've never been on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. However, at least this time around I had been to Australia, and her portrayal of the zany Australians was right on target. You have to love the people who could have defined the concept of "thinking outside the box".

Why do I forget and pick up romance novels????? I think it's because I order the books on line and they are not listed as romance - ugh!!! I only read 1 of the 3 stories in the book, Duncan's Bride, it's formula sweet girl meets handsome but flawed and angry man, they are attracted, marry and sparks fly. He turns around and they live happily ever after. This happens to be set in modern times but it could just as well have been set in any time period from 1700-2013 and the story would be the same with a different setting. And there is WAY TOO MUCH SEX!!!!!

Contains: Duncan's Bride by Linda Howard; Chain Lightning by Eliz. Lowell; and Popcorn and Kisses by Kasey Michaels. This is a nice grouping of three great authors, but I especially loved "Chain Lightning" by Elizabeth Lowell. Great story line and character development for both main characters, plus the added bonus of a believable ending that their relationship could survive long term because the story evidences their genuine caring (not just lust) and development of trust. I would read this particular story again. Probably not the other two stories in this grouping, however.

First story was like an x-rated Sarah, Plain and Tall.
Second story was really amazing and made me want to visit the Great Barrier Reef.
Compared to the first two, the last story was just meh, but the theatre is two hours from my house.
