This powerful book has touched countless lives-reminding readers of the Lord's invitation to "come away" and experience His all-sufficient care and provision. A book "forged in the crucible of life," Come Away My Beloved shares the ministering spirit of the heavenly Father to those in need of encouragement, hope, comfort, and conviction. Equally helpful to new Christians or longtime believers seeking spiritual renewal, Come Away My Beloved offers instruction for successful Christian living and inspiration for deeper devotion to God. This classic book has been updated for ease of reading and incorporates Scripture from the New King James Version.
Frances J. Roberts was a prolific Christian author and musician best known for her devotional classic Come Away My Beloved, which has sold over a million copies and been translated into multiple languages. In 1964, she founded The King’s Press, where she wrote and published nine devotional books over three decades. A graduate of Moody Bible Institute, she served as Florida’s state director for Child Evangelism Fellowship and wrote the popular Wordless Book Song during that time. A gifted musician, she composed eighty-eight published hymns and worked as a church accompanist. Her ministry work also included teaching at a Spanish mission school and contributing to music ministries across various congregations.
One of my favorite devotional books that I've read over and over since the 1970's. A book I can pick up whenever I just need some encouragement. Just open up and let the pages fall and there is always a reading that lifts me up.
I actually didn't finish reading this book. While there are a few good reminders in it, the style of writing made it a very difficult read. God didn't say all of the words written in this book and it was written as if He had. If this book had been written from a different point of view, I think I would have enjoyed it very much.
This little devotion book was given to me by a very special friend. The sentiment and the message is powerful. It was like reading pages from a journal from the Father to me! Always encouraging and thought provoking I would recommend this to anyone to use during their quiet times alone with God.
I bought this book early in my walk with Christ (about 4 years ago) & this book still inspires & encourages me in Christ. The way Frances j Roberts placed God as the voice it makes you as the reader feel as if God is speaking directly to you concerning your situations. LOVE IT!
There is great wisdom and revelation here. For instance, she gives this word of the Lord, "How can I give you healing for your body whilst there is anxiety in thy mind? So long as there is dis-ease in thy thoughts, there shall be disease in thy body. Ye have need of many things, but one thing in particular ye must develop for thine own preservation, and that is an absolute confidence in My loving care."
A dear, dear friend reminded me of this book, and what it had meant and still means to her. It is not to be hurried through, but to read and then ruminate over...sometimes I'll read the same excerpt 3 or 4 days in a row. Her style of writing reminds me so much of Elisabeth Elliot. There is a song we sing at church "ponder anew what the Almighty can do" ~ this book helps me to do that.
This is a very good devotional along the lines of God Calling and Jesus Calling … Frances J. Roberts writes it as though God is speaking directly to the reader … which is very personal. She writes at the beginning of the book: "This book is dedicated to the glory of God and to all who desire a closer walk with Him." EAch devotional pulls you into a sweet intimacy … and offers additional scriptural readings with the daily writings, although it doesn't have a reading a day for a year like some devotionals. On an interesting note, little is know about this author. She does almost no publicity and allows few photos. She has written many hymns, poems, and nine books … and this devotional has sold over a million copies. She has two other similar books called Dialogues With God and Make Haste my Beloved.
This is 140 days of readings, so about 4 months, and reads as though God is speaking to the reader. There were some prayers, poems, and a few sentences that stood out to me, but I gravitated toward Roberts's poetry. Most of the daily readings are accompanied by a Scripture verse. I don't completely agree with Roberts's conclusions in some of the readings, but it can be a good supplement that encourages the reader to really think about and study the Scriptures.

This book is a beautiful treasure. I let the wisdom in these passages soak into my spirit as I read. It was as though God was speaking to me personally. I have reread many pages and will visit this book over and over.
This book was a great comfort to me over the past several months. I read bit by bit each morning and it filled me with so much peace and reassurance. There were some powerful passages that gave me a new realization/understanding of how God speaks to me and what his thoughts and feelings are about me. (They’re a lot less passive than I typically think!) There were also some convicting moments for me in reading this about what Christian living is really all about and what it looks like in a broken world to hold steadfast to truth. This is definitely a book I will come back to time and time again.
Got almost through it, but DNF. It is written as if from the voice of God, so I read with care as there is some license taken and it states things God did not actually say. On one hand, some things spoke directly to my heart and were both convicting and uplifting. On the other hand, there was TOO much license taken in some cases. I had to stop with a chapter toward the end of the book which began by highlighting God’s deep need for us. (God does not need us… but we do need Him.).
There is no ending date to this beautiful devotional. It’s a classic and it’s been updated. In today’s language. This is a standby and a must have for anybody that needs encouragement from God’s word. Francis writes it in such a beautiful way, That’s relatable to touch your heart mind and soul. It says if God is really speaking to us with us and for us in the moment.
The perfect encouragement for daily life. This was a sweet gift from friends that I savoured! I took it with me to Saudi Arabia, where I didn't have access to a Christian church and had quite a difficult time adjusting. This book was the perfect reminder that God was with me each and every day. What a blessing!
Her books are beautifully written. Always feel like it’s just a Sweet time spent with the Lord. This one is written in old English so a little harder to understand than the other one I have read and love
It's not scripture, but it reads like scripture. Words of prophecy. It's really consistent with what God says in the Bible. Beautifully encouraging, at times a rebuke, but always good and truthful.
Incredibly beautiful poetry, that really reveals the heart of God and gives incredible instruction based upon the truth of God's word! It definitely touches the heart deeply 💖
