An interesting book written in 1988 on the occassion of the Football League's 100th anniversary. It is written by the excellent football writer Simon Inglis. It is a good read however it has become very dated with what has happened in the football world since 1988. In 1988 being a football fan was the lowest of the low, I speak from experience as I can plainly remember being herded cattle style into crumbling stadiums. From 1990 after the World Cup football became fashionable again, the premier League was formed and money flowed into the game. So knowing what we now know it is strange to read about all the measures that the league were putting in place to stop TV having an influence on the game and looking at restricting wages as only 23 years later it is such a different world
