Occasionally funny comedy of manners revolving around a Frenchman´s attempts at courtship in Prohibition era Norway (1919-1926) where and when French mores were often met with pause, as kissing without the bonds of wedlock was reportedly considered incompatible with the principles of a democratic society.

Poor Jerome! A 25-year-old French play writer goes to Norway for the production of his play. A hopeless romantic, he falls in love with his ideal of Norway and the Norwegian female. Published in 1927, I'm not sure if he is more astonished by the lack of "moral" love in Norway than I am. He does not know how to deal with the easy way of engagements/betrothals and marriages that can be dealt with through easy divorces. After an engagement broken off by his fiancee, he ends with a woman who had lived in France and knows just how to handle his need for romance.
