I received a copy of this book from the author so i first of all wanna say thanks to her!

Anathema is book 4 in Maria Rachel Hooley's "Sojourner" series and i think i would have to say its my favorite of the set. If you haven't read the book you may not want to read any further cause you may get spoiled but if you don't mind them read on. Well this book follow's the aftermath of Elizabeth stabbing herself with the ancient dagger to save Lev. It somehow has given her this awful power in which she can kill pretty much anyone with her hands, and 95% of the time its not voluntary, it's not something she can control. She tries to train to learn how to control it but that doesn't go over well. There are these set of angel's called the Triune who are out to find her because a human in their eyes should not hold that sort of power. I don't want to spoil too much but in this book Elizabeth goes through a lot, more than normal, she has to deal with the fact that just being around the people she loves puts them in danger of being killed or seriously hurt. And worry about if the Triune are gonna kill her or not. I felt like Elizabeth became a stronger person in this book because she made had to make choices i don't know if i could ever make, even if she knew it wouldn't work out like she wanted she would always do what was best for her family and Lev. As if to say at least she tried to do what was best even if it killed her or didn't come out how she wanted. I actually at times would find myself going "omg" as i was reading parts because of the suspense of not knowing what was gonna happen to these characters because of Elizabeth's choice in the end of book 3. All in all this was a very fun and highly enjoyable series on the "Angel" aspect of the paranormal genre. I will definitely be reading more from this author! Happy reading!

Anathema, the fourth and final installment in the Sojourner series by Maria Rachel Hooley was a nicely written conclusion to an impressive series.

I really enjoyed Elizabeth and Lev’s journey. I think conclusions must be the hardest thing in the world for authors to write because there is so much at stake and you don’t want to disappoint readers. Anathema did not disappoint. I was very happy with the final novel and the way Hooley wrapped things up. She continued with her trend and kept us on our toes! (I can't say too much more because I don't want to give anything away!)

I gave Anathema by Maria Rachel Hooley 4 STARS because it was a stellar conclusion. I strongly recommend the Sojourner series to all young adults who enjoy paranormal romances.

OVERALL I gave the Sojourner series by Maria Rachel Hooley an overall rating of 4 STARS. I think this is a perfect series for teens and young adults who enjoy paranormal, suspense and romance. Sojourner, Covenant, Second Sight and Anthema complete the Sojourner series, and to enjoy this series you need to read every book.

-XOXO

This book had many flaws. It dragged on with Elizabeth whining about things being her fault while everyone tells her they are not - over and over. And then it seemed to suddenly end. Lots of questions - what happened to the Triune angel who was hit with the power?, how did Lev end up mortal?, etc. The story overall was okay. It was interesting enough that I read it all but I'm not satisfied now that it is over.

I had such high hopes for the conclusion of this book....sadly I felt a little let down. The ending left a lot unanswered and seemed slightly rushed to me. Overall I believe the series was good, however I wish there would have been the dual POV's of Lizzie & Lev in book 4 so that the reader could understand a little more of Lev's perspective on all of what happened.

Disappointing ending to the series. Elizabeth annoyed me to no end in this book, whining, playing the martyr, playing 'poor me'. Ugh. That said, I whipped through it quickly like the other 3, and I did enjoy the story mostly. But glad it's done - after disliking Elizabeth in Anathema I don't think I would have continued anyway.
