God Knows My Name: Never Forgotten, Forever Loved

Rate this book
Do you know how much you matter to God?
In this powerful and deeply vulnerable book, Beth Redman writes to pass along a message that changed her life—that the God who made us also understands us intimately and proclaims our worth by naming us and calling our name. He hears our cries and reaches out to help us and fight for us. He knows our past but is already hard at work shaping our future—helping us, defending us, and restoring the damage life has done. And no matter what others do, our heavenly Father will never, ever leave or forget us.

Drawing on Scripture and her own experience, Redman invites us to explore the revolutionary implications of being loved by a God who knows our name. And she invites us to call on His name as well—to respond to His heart and love Him as He has loved us from the beginning.

Beth Redman says, "I want to share an amazing story of restoration, a story of hope that we all have and the truth that I pray will fill you with joy, freedom, and power! I want to shout out that God heals, restores His plans for you and utterly adores you! If we can truly breathe in that truth, we become free to live, free to give and free to love and accept both others and ourselves. Then, as you breathe in that truth out into a hurting and broken world that desperately needs this message of Go, the father’s heart for us, God is glorified, and lives are changed and transformed by Him.”

I was drawn in from the start—the message in the beginning paragraphs were gripping, hopeful and refreshing. I’m so thankful to have received a review copy of such an inspiring story of Beth Redman’s journey from shattered to wholeness and how her personal relationship with God grew and developed into something very special. She talked about being filled with truth that transforms in her journey to wholeness. This was powerful stuff!!

Beth says, “Ultimately, we are not defined by what others think of us when they learn our names, or what our earthly parents say about us. Instead, we find definition in the authority, power and compassion of the God who loves us. It’s time we hear his voice the loudest.” Amen to that Beth! This book wasn’t preachy, but simple, honest and practical, filled with stories taken from her life and from scripture to back up the truth that has set her free.

This was a very inspiring book written from the heart of Beth Redman’s personal encounters with God and the realities of life. It was great to be reminded and encouraged again about how God feels about us! I was encouraged by how Beth shared stories from her past and how she talked about still having days when she still feels forgotten rejected and misunderstood. She says that these feelings are a way the enemy attempts to make us feel anonymous, illegitimate and unfit to be recognized by our Heavenly Father. “God bestows great worth and significance upon his children, and it is within his grace alone we will find meaning and purpose!” Beth says.

This book is short, simple and packs a powerful punch of hope, redemption and love. I highly recommend it! It’s made me want to read other books by her!

“God Knows My Name: Never Forgotten, Forever Loved” by Beth Redman is an amazing read that had me both in tears and just feeling strengthen in my journey and walk with our Heavenly Father.

A powerful, vulnerable and encouraging book, “God Knows My Name: Never Forgotten, Forever Loved” is one of those books, I wouldn’t recommend unless you have several boxes of tissues on hands for it will leave you in tears of joy and heartwarming encouragement that YOU ARE LOVED and our Father does not and will not ever forget you.

192 pages and just filled with the prescence of our Father, what touched me about, “God Knows My Name: Never Forgotten, Forever Loved”, was the personal stories of Beth’s own life that she shared and the strength she found in her church community and our Heavenly Father that helped her grow and become the person our Heavenly Father called her to be, but also a reminder too, for those who feel that they could never move past tragic or sometimes shameful pasts that our Father, is much bigger and stronger than our circumstances.

The first chapter was difficult to get past due to the tears and just the feelings of remembering that our Father is always a solid rock that we sometimes don’t give Him all the credit that is really due of Him.

“God Knows My Name: Never Forgotten, Forever Loved” just reminded us that sometimes we don’t get the “earthly love” we crave but we have a deeper and stronger love that is always there for us.

If you are struggling with difficult circumstances or just maybe you are going through that valley in your life as we all sometimes do, I recommend, “God Knows My Name: Never Forgotten, Forever Loved”.

I love when a non-fiction book comes along that really speaks to me and as I'm reading it I can think of people to recommend it to. God Knows My Name is just such a book. I have actually done a lot of study on this particular subject, what makes this book worthy of recommendation above some others I've read is how easy to read and understand it is. It clearly lays out who you are in Christ and what you mean to Him backed by lots of great scriptures and stories all by an amazing woman of God. I would recommend this to new Christians or those who have been Christians most of their lives - it will benefit all of us.

"God Knows My Name" was a great book! Very encouraging and uplifting. Written by a woman who didn't let her past dictate her future, (she is married to Matt Redman who has written countless worship songs). I can recommend this book to women age 16 and up. Though it is geared toward the female gender, I think anyone who struggles with insecurity or an abusive childhood would benefit from reading it. I give it five stars and loved it.

Amazing book. I'm so glad I downloaded it. It spoke directly to my heart and helped me understand some of the negative things I've gone through in life. If you have ever experienced rejection or felt unloved, this book is for you. It reminds us that no matter what the circumstance God loves us, knows our names and will never abandon us. Truly a blessing!

This book has helped me so much. I was able to realize I am not alone. I have purpose here and my father in heaven will not let me fall. When we feel like nobody loves us or wants us this is a good read.

This is the kind of books that I hesitate to recommend, unless the person is a young Christian struggling with life. It took me a while to get to the end despite the few 100 pages.
I guess it is not meant for edification but more for comfort. A little sugar coated between the lines😄 naming preachers who aren't good examples haha. Anyway, with several scripture based quotes.
The study guide at the end is an interesting tool for youths.

Some highlighted quotes:
💐 It’s amazing how freedom, healing, and relief come over our hearts as we hear again how much God loves us and embraces us in spite of our choices or past. His plan of hope for us is sure. We can praise Him in the midst of all of life’s craziness knowing our dependence and hope in Him will never be disappointed.

🌻God makes everything beautiful in His perfect time. Put your faith and trust in God, and ask Him to shut the wrong doors and open the right ones. When we let God take control, we allow Him to work miracles of great joy and power in our lives.

🍀He is in the valley, in the presence of your enemies, in front of those people who rejected you and who said you couldn’t do it, and in front of your own fears and failures. Psalm 23 shows us that despite the valley, despite the circumstances and the pain, God has not abandoned you or forgotten you. No!

🍂Life is tough. It is relentless. Human beings are pretty high maintenance, and survival can be exhausting at times. But we are called to do more than survive—we are called to thrive! So let’s run our race with perseverance, take up our cross, and follow Jesus, telling others about Him and living in a way that honors Him, serves Him, and gives glory to Him.

🌱 Life will throw us many curveballs. The circumstances may make it appear as though God has forgotten you, but He sees you, hears you, has compassion for you, and always burns with love for you. He is faithful. Trust in Him through whatever life throws at you, honor Him by believing that He is good and He could never forget you . Trust, believe, and know that your God is with you. Your name is engraved on the palm of His hand. You are His. Never forgotten, forever loved. God hears you. God loves you. God knows your name! Always and forever, amen!

The reading was just a little too dry and basic to hold my interest. Many times I felt like I was reading snippets of a Bible commentary. I truly value Bible commentaries, but that's not what I was looking for in this book. I did, however, make some highlights of things I'd like to go back to because some good points were made.

One of those really easy to read Christian books, which gives you a quick boost.
I read Beth's book soul sista as a young teen-ager, it was over if those books that I just kept on doing into over the years, and I can see this one being the same. I just love her honesty and openness.
Well worth a read as I am sure anyone could get something out of this.

I think if I would have read this with a study group I might have gotten more in depth meaning from it but it was okay. I taggged a few things here and there to research further and to follow up on. I would definitely do a group study if the opportunity came about.

I cannot review this book without giving part of my story to explain how I experienced it. During a free Kindle promotion, I downloaded a copy of the book. It sat there for weeks or months and one day, I was browsing and selected it as the book I would read next. Except that was right before Christmas and I received a number of books as gifts so I was reading printed books for several weeks.

During a period of depression, I was praying about my need to be seen. I felt invisible because no one seems to notice me. I distinctly felt God say, “I am the God who sees you.”

I immediately recognized that as El-Roi, the name God Hagar used after she encountered God in the wilderness when she ran away from an abusive and jealous woman (Genesis 16). She said, “You are the God who sees me.”

The significance to me snapped into place. I don’t need to be concerned about whether others see me because God sees me. I don’t have to hang my hopes on whether others will respond to my actions because God sees, even if no one else does. And I can work for God silently, without recognition because even my secret efforts are not a secret to God.

God sees me! I’m not invisible. I’m not devoid of meaning or purpose.

But that wasn’t the end of it.

The next day I picked up my Kindle for the first time in weeks. When I turned it on, I saw the words “God Knows My Name.” It was Chapter 1 of the book, but which book? I clicked back to find out it was a book by the same title. I was immediately interested because it seemed like such a confirmation and just what I needed at the time.

Beth Redman’s book was easy to read. I cruised through it quickly. She loaded the book with Bible verses (sometimes almost too many, if that’s possible). Upon this biblical foundation, she offered a soothing and confirming message to help women understand how God restores their dignity. Many of her examples come from women of the Bible and she provides a refreshing new insight on old, familiar narratives. But she also shared personal experiences, including some details about her abusive upbringing and the consequences in her young life.

Every woman could probably find a relevant truth in one or more of these topics. It is worth a read.

I give God Knows My Name by Beth Redman four cups of love.

In God Knows My Name Beth Redman, the wife of British Contemporary Christian Music artist Matt Redman, writes about the strength she has drawn from her relationship with her heavenly father when she was shockingly rejected by her earthly father.

After recounting the rejection, Redman goes on to show how God spoke to her through his word in verses like Isaiah 49:15-16: “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has born? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.” As a result of the abuse, rejection and humiliation she received, she hated herself “inside and out.” But, as she writes: “Then Jesus called my name. And everything changed.”

Through the rest of the book Redman, an evangelist and songwriter herself, extracts truths from God’s word that gave and still give her comfort. The power of God Knows My Name is not from a particularly new message, but rather arises from the messenger and her context. Coming from Redman, God’s promises move beyond mere intellectual assent and are brought to three-dimensional life through the role they played in her restoration from grief and rejection.

In Blue Like Jazz: Nonreligious Thoughts on Christian Spirituality, Donald Miller, whose own father abandoned him while in middle school, wondered “why it is God refers to Himself as ‘Father’ at all. This, to me, in light of the earthly representation of the role, seems a marketing mistake. Why would God want to call Himself Father when so many fathers abandon their children?”

In God Knows My Name, Redman offers a compelling answer to that question. That is, the allusion of God the father can be a contrast as well as a comparison. Redman writes: “Though my father may forsake me, my God will never reject me. Though my earthly dad may try to erase me from his life, I shall never be forgotten. In that moment I knew a deep and permanent truth covering over the whole of my life: that God knows my name.”

I received a review copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I have to admit that I requested this on Netgalley mostly because I thought the cover was pretty and the title intrigued me. I didn't pay any attention to the author's name, I just wanted a book that would help me on my spiritual walk. However, it was quite the bonus when I was surprised to learn that her husband is a well known gospel singer...and sings one of my favorite songs - 10,000 Reasons.

If there's one thing that I took away from this book, it's that no matter what, God will never forget me; my name is written on Jesus's hand and I am loved beyond any measure a human can come up with. There were times when I wanted to reach through my Kindle to hug the author, and times when I whispered, "that sounds all too familiar".

There are some pretty amazing scripture quotes that begin and end each chapter. Beth doesn't just quote scriptures though, she brings you inside her journey and tells you that it's all going to be okay. Just keep looking to our Heavenly Father and follow the path that He has set for us...but even if we veer off, and we will because we choose to, He is going to be there with us even still.

He LOVES us. That's the message I took away. Even when we sin, He still loves us. His arms are always open, his love is always there.

Even if you think you're all alone and no one understands...you're not and there are. God understands you; He hurts when you hurt...he smiles when you smile...and again, He LOVES you. Even if you were a promiscuous teenager who liked to drink and smoke. He has something great in store for you.

Beth's ministry is wonderful and I look forward to reading more by her.

Title: GOD KNOWS MY NAME
Author: Beth Redman
Publisher: David C. Cook
July 2010
ISBN: 978-0-7814-0365-8
Genre: Inspirational/Women’s issues

Do You Know How Much You Matter to God?

Beth Redman knows what extreme hurt is from her earthly father, but she has managed to rise above it to discover a Heavenly Father who cares so much about her that it is virtually impossible, in our human knowledge, to comprehend.

He understands us intimately, and proclaims our worth by naming us and calling our name. He hears our cries, and saves our tears in a bottle, and then reaches out to help us and fight for us. And even though he knows all the deep dark secrets of our past, he is still at work shaping our future. And he will never leave us or forsake us.

Beth Redman uses a lot of scripture references and her own true life experiences to help us explore the implications of being loved by God—one who knows our name. And she invites us to call on His name as well.

GOD KNOWS MY NAME is a timely book for me to read. Because sometimes it feels as though God has forgotten about me. It was a good reminder that God does love me, that he will never forget me, and will be with me through eternity.

If you are struggling with life, and trying to imagine that its possible that God loves you then GOD KNOWS MY NAME is a great book to pick up. The end of the book contains discussion questions for each chapter, plus a prayer. $12.99. 188 pages.

MY REVIEW:

Beth Redman touches the heart of women with her vulnerability and deep biblical encouragement in this thought-provoking book. She shares what God thinks about us in light of scripture and how we can know that God KNOWS our name!

Her personal sharing ranges from down right hysterical to heart-wrenching. I appreciate her friend-to-friend approach and honesty through out this uplifting volume. While it is not the easiest book to read, and can seem a little disjointed at times, I still recommend it for those struggling with the love of God and their identity in Christ. Beth feeds women theology in a personal and applicable manner and anyone will find encouragement in these pages.

What a timely message for every woman in our material society. Definitely a message through out the ages as I am certain during Biblical times it was potent as well with all the focus on earthly and physical beauty. There are so many times when we can really get caught up in what others think about us whether it is physical or personality and sometimes I catch myself knowing that they are evil ideas placed there for distraction, but sometimes I miss it and dwell. This book is a good reminder.

This book was filled with a lot of vulnerability by Beth Redman and some of the things that she went through in her childhood. If you struggle with insecurity at all, this book is a great book to remind of how much God loves you and can bring you through any kind of trouble in your life. I personally didn't learn a lot that I didn't already know but it was a very good reminder of God's truth. I read this book with a friend and we did it as a bible study so I'd highly recommend taking notes in it to see where God leads you and what He speaks to you through the book.

I feel bad giving the book 2 stars... it's probably more like 2.5. It wasn't a bad book, and other readers have obviously really liked it. I just didn't connect with it like I hoped I would. It's a good overview of a lot of truths, but in such a short book, it can't go in-depth with every topic (or any topic really).

Redirecting Condemnations From The Enemy

Redirecting Condemnations From The Enemy

I thought this was a very inspiring book for anyone who feels forgotten and unloved by God. She uses God's Truths to redirect these condemnations that are the Accusers way for us to lose sight of God's promise of His love and eternal life.

I really liked this book, it was very much along the same theme of books I've been reading at the moment, how our relationship with Christ makes the difference in our lives. I loved Beths application of scripture and I found the book very encouraging. I would recommend to other christian women for sure.

Beth writes out of her own pain of being rejected by her earthly father, but she reminds us that what our Heavenly Father thinks about us is far important. This is also a practical book about how to apply scripture to real life, even to show love to those diffictult people.

I was really unimpressed by this. I felt it was pretty repetitive and I was so excited to read it too! Heard Beth preaching recently, and loved what she was about, but this book didn't really challenge me at all. I'm sure it's lovely for most, but, I don't know, it wasn't for me.

A few things she said were good, but this book bored me to tears. Not only did she not use the true, living Word of God, but often this turpitude what it was saying. I couldn't get through this book fast enough. She didn't even talk about repentance is a biblical way.
