How do I feel about this one?
How do I feel about this one?!

This is how I feel about it!

What's Your Number? - 5/5

Ed's past catches up to her, and the Bebop crew get wrapped up in a mad dash to find her before the wrong people get there first. We get to meet one of Ed's old hacker friends and watch the crew bicker in the usual fashion about matters of money and friendship. Along the way, Ein is the cutest little corgi you ever did see.

This one is so good. Yeah, it suffers from a few editing issues in the translation (things like "you're" instead of "your"). And, yeah, it doesn't quite have the same charm as the anime due to lacking the aesthetic appeal and amazing soundtrack. But it's by far better than the previous manga issues and it feels so much like the Cowboy Bebop I know and love that I can easily forgive those perceived shortcomings.

I had so much fun with this one, I left it feeling as if I'd just committed an episode of the anime to mind. Where would it fit in continuity? I don't know. Would it fit? Still, I don't know. But, much like the anime movie, I'm willing to accept that it could slot in there somehow and enjoy it for what it is.

Finally getting some hint of Ed's past - aside from the parentage thing that barely took any runtime in the anime - was also entertaining and intriguing. On top of that, the main plot is oddly timely today in a similar way as it was back then, considering it involves people who oppose the influence of the internet on the lives of young people. I thought that was kinda trippy in a fun way.

Fight For Your Right - 4.5/5

Continuing the trend set by the first chapter, this one also feels well suited for an actual episode of the anime. Much like the source I love so much, it has a nice balance between serious drama, fun antics, and comedic relief. And, of course, there's added character depth - this time in a few more hints and allusions to Spike's dark past and how he's privy to some shady things by nature of being a former member of a crime syndicate.

In this one, we meet an older man with a striking resemblance to someone from Spike's past and watch as he gets wrapped up in a very sticky situation involving secret astral gates and mafia families. From cycles of theft to syndicate dealings to hyperspace airship chases to gunfights: this chapter has it all. And some more adult stuff like some full-frontal nudity and a panel of slightly sexual activity and a few characters who curse when upset. Just like the first chapter, it does a really good job of using the media given to try and replicate as much of the Cowboy Bebop vibe as possible.

I had a fun time reading this chapter and loved seeing Spike in action since he felt so perfectly in-character here.

Overall

This volume is basically everything I hoped a manga adaptation would be! Unlike the troublesome first volume and disappointing second, this one really shines. It made me feel nostalgic for the anime and happy for some extra adventures that actually felt worthy of the name Cowboy Bebop. I'm glad I kept reading and didn't give up during the previous volumes!

Well... this is it... the last volume... the final adventure we took with the Bebop crew... AND IT WAS FREAKING AMAZING!!! I mean, what with the last two volumes being as awesome as they were, did you really doubt this one would be any different? This last volume was just as adventurous, as epic, as NOSTALGIC, as the rest of the series was. This one only had two specific adventures but they were much longer than what we were used to. (It only had TWO chapters) and it focused on certain aspects of the characters past. The entire time reading this, I was really excited! I was wondering how everything was going to play out, especially when it came to Edward and Tomato! ...because they were just so cute together! >////< I cannot gush enough about this manga series so, naturally, this is going to be me raving about it again so... you've been warned... again. XP

Nanten's art is just wonderful. Thinking about it now... it's probably not the best artwork I have ever seen (I say this now because after having been exposed to it for three volumes, you kinda get used to it and it loses its flare, but Nanten tries their best to make the artwork nice. At least the characters look like themselves and not completely different characters! XD Hajime Yatate did an amazing job with the story as usual. They know how to grab the reader's attention from the get-go. Starting off each chapter with a chase or an explosion or something along those lines. Yatate's abilities to come up with countless stories with these characters and make is seem something brand new and not rehashed is astounding! I've already said in my previous reviews how it seems like you are watching an episode of the anime by just reading this manga, and I meant it! Man, I have the strongest urge to re-watch the anime... AND I JUST FINISHED WITH IT ABOUT A WEEK AGO! XD

All the characters, I love. Spike is just as douchey and lovable as ever. Faye is still trying to scam people out of their money. Jet is so askdlfnfkhd... I mean... intelligent and caring. Ed is... well, Ed. And Ein is just as helpful as ever, considering the band of idiots he hangs out with. XD So the entire Bebop crew is one of the main reasons why this manga is as epic as it is! The new character aren't so bad either. Mike Yamada is a trucker who got involved in some shady business because of his own dumb luck, I enjoyed his character. He was an elderly man who just wanted to make a living for himself and his family... you just felt sorry for him when you see the crap who had to go through. Poor guy... I loved him so much! However, I think the character I REALLY enjoyed in this last volume was Tomato. He, like Ed, is a child hacker from Earth. They have a history and I would say more so that you have a better idea of who he is but I really don't want to ruin it for you. He is sweet, adorable, and wonderful! Tomato is a character you have to experience for yourself because of how cute he is! (I ship him so hard with Ed, guys!)

Go buy this manga. No, really. Go buy it. If you are a Cowboy Bebop fan, or an anime/manga fan in general, then you should have this in your collection. It's just THAT good! So much adventure! So much excitement! You just can't get enough of it! The moment I get a chance, I am buying this manga because I NEED this. It was sooooooo goooooooood!!! *Flails* ...okay. I'll stop fangirling... I'm just... at a lost! Now that it's over... what am I going to read? Oh Bebop, look what you've done to me. You left me at Reader's Limbo~ Well, I'll find my way out... AFTER ALL THE FEELS!!! DX Pick up this series and read it! You will not regret it! <3

Take away the colorful animation and, especially, Yoko Kanno's music, and a lot of what I love about Cowboy Bebop is gone. It's nice to see the characters again, but the two stories in this volume are not very memorable.

Of the three volumes in this series, this is by far the best. Each volume contains little side stories that you could essentially plug into the show without changing anything--basically more bounty hunting stories. The two stories in this one are both longer than the stories in the other volumes and both better written. The first one revolves around Ed and a group of "net terrorists" who are trying to take down the internet, the second involves a guy who gets caught up in the mafia and has no idea how to get out of it. Unlike the stories in the first two volumes which were just sort of frivolous, these two could easily have been episodes from the show in tone, content, and quality.

Alright, now this is what I'm talking about. The two longer stories in this last volume are far better than the fun snippets that made up the first two volumes.

I love how the Bebop crew comes together to save the kidnapped Ed, though our favorite hacker does pretty well for herself. I really liked the juxtaposition of the old Net Terrorists and their message against the freedom of the child hacker in space.

The trucker accidentally getting himself mixed up with the mafia, Gate Corp, and the Bebop was also awesome. The bounty hunters' plan in the end is pretty brilliant.

These could have easily been quality episodes in the anime!

I don’t do much research into the manga I read, so after reading this volume, I naturally thought “I’ll have to find the next to read.”

Well, this is it for this series. My original review (down below) still stands with a note- this book, while not very exceptional, is the best of the series.

It’s been a while but I remember how I didn’t particularly like the first 2 issues of Bebop. For a sci-fi bounty hunting adventure series, those first stories were pretty generic. This issue turns it around a bit, not only with more sci-fi space chases but by raising the stakes and putting a bounty on Ed, one of the crew members on the Bebop.

Final book in the series where the art is by Yutaka.

The first chapter is focuses primarily on Ed, and now with the help of some of her old friends they stop a virus from taking over the central system.

The second chapter is about a dark gate card falling into the wrong hands and how they have to do a complicated set up in order to turn the guy in and help an innocent driver.

While I did enjoy the stories they felt very lackluster and I found myself getting bored by them easily. This was originally published in 1999 but made for an English audience in 2003. The art style is quite ugly at times and difficult to follow because some characters change how they look.

Cowboy Bebop

Author: Yukata Nanten, Hajime Yatate
Penerbit: M&C!
Status: Completed(?)
List of Volumes: 3

Overall, I think this series earns a 2.5-3.
The characters were a little off to me and the stories seemed recycled from the anime. Also, it seemed like a bunch of fillers.
I’d prefer a manga that was identical to the anime or maybe even a continuation....

ALSO I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND buying this series for an insane price if it does go out of print. It’s an okay series at best but it’s not worth paying over the original price.

Read this for a reading challenge as a book someone recommended to you (my husband for this series.) I also made it a goal to read more graphic novels this year so figured a good way to start was to read a short set of an anime I loved watching.

Solid last chapter, be warned there are 2 big chapters to this volume. I'm sure there's room for more chapters but with no overarching plot there's nothing to wrap up at the end.

Definitely the best of the three. We had a lot of Ed content too, which is great because I love them. The characters felt more true to the anime compared to the previous two.

Accidentally read vol 3 instead of two just now, but it makes no difference. These two stories were quite a lot better than Vol 1, but my concerns from my vol 1 review stand.

I'm sad to say that I didn't enjoy this volume as much as the first two. Both of the tails where entertaining in that they held my interest while I read them but I didn't find myself being sucked in or genuinely laughing like I have with the other volumes. I can't put my finger on it but that spark just wasn't there for me this time around.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A tech-infused finale with an edge, Vol. 3 embraces cyber-mystery and interplanetary intrigue. “What’s Your Number” is the highlight, centering on Ed with a surprisingly high-stakes twist—her own bounty! It plays like a noir-hacker thriller and brings Tomato into the fold in a way that feels weirdly fitting for the Bebop universe. “Fight For Your Right” feels more like filler but still has some solid Spike action and space chase excitement. There’s less emotional depth than Vol. 2, but the stakes and tension are higher here, especially with the looming Astral Gate mystery. It’s stylish and action-packed, if not always narratively cohesive.

A fun collection of stories, and a nice wrap-up to this little mini-series based off of the classic anime. While not as good as the first collection, I do think this one trumped the second. It was fun, face-paced, and enjoyable. My favorite story definitely was the last one, with Mike Yamada. There was plenty of action, and just enough humor to keep me smiling throughout. I'm actually a bit sad that the series is over. But, I've heard there are other manga renditions of Bebop, so I guess I'll have to check those out next.

See ya' cowboy.

"What's your number?"

"Fight for your right" Os problemas simplesmente encontram Spike, este conto prova-o. 4 Estrelas

I love this series so much. I own the anime on dvd and it's one of my classics. I like how different the stories are but they both have the same art style which made me really happy that they both have that in common. I also just like the overall feel of it because its one of the more realistic and down to earth series but still manages to express the sciFi feel

Seriously just not spectacular. I'm not engaged reading these stories, and I wasn't even the first time when I read them in high school. I'm not sure why. Something is missing in the dynamic. I don't feel I care for anyone. And the translation isn't very good. I hope the last two are as good as I remember them to be.
