Donna Grant was truly able to reveal a detailed picture of a strange and dangerous world. She did an incredible job of making this mystical world and its inhabitants come to life. However, the Druids remain elusive and mysterious, especially regarding a prophecy involving three sisters who had been parted years ago. The author begins the series with the MacNeil Laird murdering the parents and two young girls, whom he assumed were Glenna's siblings, also connected to the 300-year-old prophecy of the Druids.

Glenna, had been kidnapped as an infant and raised by the enemy, the ruthless MacNeil laird, who hoped to use her Druid powers to aid in making his victories against other clans victorious. He never displayed any compassion toward her, yet her personality was not influenced by the negativity surrounding her life. When MacNeil kidnapped the sister of Laird Macinness, things suddenly changed. Laird Macinness came to the MacNeil property to rescue his sister and when she was not found, he ended up kidnapping Glenna, per her request, to aid her in escaping the clan she felt so uncomfortable in, though she didn't reveal that at the time. She took a big chance trusting the enemy as she did, but here life was miserable with such a wretched man as her father and Laird.

Glenna, and Laird Connall MacInness.experienced a tumultuous beginning in their relationship. Even though his ancestors had pledged an oath to protect the Druids, he had previously turned his back on them. This caused him much conflict throughout the story. Glenna, on the other hand, was extremely interested uncovering the truth about her life, in getting to know more about her sister (Moria) that had been raised by the Druids, and her part in their lifestyle. Connall repeatedly tried to forbid her involvement with he Druids, but Glenna was too headstrong to obey his wishes. It took a very long time before these two were able to put their differences aside and realized they were meant for one another.

Okay, I do have a gripe and I may be alone in this fact. However, when a book series or a t.v. program have a singular 'bad guy/enemy' that attacks repeatedly, it disturbs or disquiets me greatly, leaving me in an agitated state of mind. The longer it progresses, the less interested I become in the adventure. So this 'evil one' is annoying my peace of mind greatly. It is a conundrum that frankly just turns me off.

This is not entirely a clean read, which gives me a major pause. This book is also not able to stand on its own, although there is an H.E.A. in a romantic sense, barring any ceremony or formality. It had a very creative premise, although the matter of the prophecy, secondary characters, and the elusive third sister was all left dangling. Yes, I was disappointed with many facets of this book. But I'm giving the series another chance and heading off to book 2 in hopes I am uplifted by entertainment, adventure, and positive enlightenment.

A prophesy, highlanders, druids, and the fae. It got my attention! Lately I’ve been reading a lot of science-fiction and mystery books, thus was craving a change. Highland Mist was my first book by Donna Grant. However, it wasn’t all that I expected.

Glenna had always been isolated for she was feared by her clan for her druid abilities, never having been trained. When chance presents itself, she escapes with Conall as he abducts her . Also a druid, he has turned his back on his powers. Of course you can imagine there will be a happy ending, after many ups and downs as the plot develops: you will see a lot of battles, some betrayals, but the support of the druids and the fae will win the day.

It was entartaining, if you have nothing better to do it could be fun. 2.5/3 Stars.

But if you want to read something great about highlanders and the fae, try Karen Marie Moning’s Kiss of the Highlander and the rest of her Highlander series, I loved all of it!

A big huge... yawn.

I've been meaning to try a Donna Grant book for a while now and this was a great price on Amazon, so I thought: why the heck not? It's as good as any to try out, right? Wrong!! I just couldn't get into this at all! So, I basically ended up skimming the story looking for "good" bits - and even then I was sorely disappointed. Blush, indeed.

I'm not ready to give up on Donna Grant yet, though. The much lauded 'Dark Sword' series looks promising...

I've read a few of Ms.  Grant's books before and when I saw this discounted on Amazon,  thought I'd pick it up.   The story starts off with a druid prophecy surrounding 3 girls,  two of which are murdered along with their parents.   The third child,  a baby is taken by MacNeil to raise as his own.

Glenna,  is very young,  isolated,  and unsure of her abilities.   She has been feared by her clan and her powers abused by her father.   When she sees her chance to escape,  she takes it offering herself up as captive to Conall.

Conall is a druid who has turned his back on his powers.   He carries a deep resentment towards them because, as laird,  he could never fully embrace druid life.   He is a kind man,  but like most heros expects to be immediate compliance with his orders.   He is good at reading people because of both his druid gift and natural intuition.   Except for MacNeil, whom he continues to expect to obey the same honor system, despite repeated proof otherwise.

My biggest problem in the book was the growth of Glenna's character.   She had a long way to go and her route didn't always make sense.   She seemingly sweeps aside all emotion in the attempts to come between her and Conall or when someone attempts to kill her or others.   But then her emotions run out of control for much more minor incidents.   One expects a woman who can start fires and does so for being told to head back to the castle by Conall would use the skill, even subconsciously,  when being choked to death by an assailant.   I also though Glenna was more whinny than strong and really didn't get invested in her character.  Hence bringing my rating from a 3.5-4 down to a 3.

On the other hand,  I found Conall and his struggle much more compelling.   I also found many of the supporting characters to be interesting and have a lot of depth,  which bodes very well for the rest of the series.   I especially enjoyed the loch scene and the building desire between the couple during the druid festival. I also enjoyed the overarching series plot.   I was glad the author introduced us to all the future h/h (or at least I think she did,  I may find myself wrong this afternoon).

A 300 year old prophecy gives Laird Connall MacInness the opportunity to exact his revenge but to do so will cost him…his mate and the future of Scotland in this captivating paranormal romance.

Glenna MacNeil only wants to be free so she eagerly goes with the powerful laird who fights her clan and readers can’t help but get caught up in the story as Glenna’s decision sets events in motion that will change the course of their lives. The chemistry is a smoldering sizzle that flares brighter the more Connall tries to fight their attraction because with his personal demons standing in their way, this is one relationship that is hanging on by a thread. These strong compelling characters grab the reader’s attention and refuse to let go while the fast paced plot captivates readers with suspense, excitement, romance and magic.

Revenge and personal demons keep anticipation high as Conall fights destiny and denies the prophecy but in order to achieve his vengeance he’ll have to open his heart and excitement and tension builds as the danger escalates since the MacNeil is determined to control Glenna and get his hands on MacInness property. The enchanting Highland setting adds ambiance and mystique to this well written romance that captures the imagination and engages the reader in a magical story full of intrigue and turmoil in a time long ago when oaths and honor meant something.

I have found another series for me to obsess over by Donna Grant as the Druid’s Glen series is a mystical world full captivating characters and interesting elements that had me bewitched right from the beginning. I have long been a fan of the Dark World books so it doesn’t surprise me that I love this one…what with the Highland, Fae, Druids and Warriors connection.

Highlanders, Druids, and Fae, Oh my!

What a wonderful world of historical with a juicy PNR twist. Ms. Grant has created a world of allies and foes, full of drama and betrayals, not to mention the romance. I enjoyed this book aaahhh LOT!

Glenna MacNiel was raised by the very man who killed her family. Her adoptive father raised her to use her powers and deep inside she knew something was amiss and knew she was but a pawn to her fathers' success and power. She felt like a prisoner, but a Druid Priestess, her friend had told her that there will be “A man who would claim her….A man who would Free her.” Glenna takes a chance with this dark Highlander knowing he IS the one.

Connal MacInnes Honorable Laird had protected the Druids and its secrets, helping his clan survive and thrive. And thrive they did, until his sister, a druid priestess was captured by the MacNiel Clan. As any strong Laird, he attacks, abducts Glenna and plans to trade her for his sisters' return. Little did he know that the very predicament he dreaded was foreseen by his sister and the Druids he protects.

This couple would have to go through several trials before getting their HEA. I fell in love with their story. It was very romantic and the sexual tension was strong. Their doubts of each other were a bit annoying but I guess it gave us a more believable relationship.
Mentions of historical Druidry, how they passed down information by story telling and other beliefs were fun to read. I highly recommend this book and a series I plan to finish sooner rather than later.

I'm not sure how I came across Donna Grant. My guess it was MySpace that did it. But I soon discovered her blog. Each week she picks a name from a commenter and gives them a free book. When I won, I asked her to pick any one of her books, preferably a first book of a series (which rather limited her to two or three books). I am so very glad that she chose this one for me.

I completely fell in love with the world Donna has created for this series. And she did a masterful job laying the foundation for a series that I can't wait to read. The romance between Conall and Glenna is well-written and believable. The characters are interesting. Overall, the book captured my attention and kept me reading and when it was over I had to get my hands on the next book (and move it up in my TBR pile).

3/5- this had so much potential but really fell flat for me. Writing didn’t feel fleshed out, choppy. Pacing was off. Plot went around in circles at times. I’m so disappointed because this could have been very very good. Not sure yet if I’ll try book 2 out…

description

The Druids Glen series brings the magic of the Highlands to life with druids, fae and the magical mists that are so prevalent in Scottish folklore. The narrator, Ruth Urquhart, did a good job with the narration. She has great performance ability and is able to handle male and different female affectations with ease.

This series starts off with a prophecy and the brutal murder of the Sinclair clan and kidnapping of the youngest daughter, Glenna, by the ruthless MacNeil laird. Thinking to use Glenna for her druid abilities, MacNeil raises her in his cruel household and she remains ignorant of her origins. Luckily the life of strife and oppression did not crush Glenna's spirit, and I was happy she took charge of her fate when the time was right. Glenna took a big risk putting her trust in an enemy Highlander, but she followed her instinct and never looked back. Glenna was a decent heroine. She was determined to learn, both about her past and about her druid origins and powers. She also stayed positive, for the most part, where her relationship with our hero was concerned.

Laird Connall MacInness was the more complex of our main characters. Part of a clan that took an oath to protect the druids, Connall has turned his back on the druid ways in anger. Initially taking Glenna as a means to an end, as they grow closer, Connall becomes more conflicted about his feelings, oaths he has taken, and duties to his clan and the druids. The author did a good job at laying out Connall's conflicts and getting you emotionally invested in his character. He had to make some tough decisions and he often did not have any good options.

The relationship between Glenna and Connall was a slow burn almost to the end. He had to overcome his personal feelings and prejudices toward the druids, and Glenna was learning to live her life as a free woman, and accept the powers granted to her by the fae. Speaking of the fae, I always love when they pop up in Scottish stories, and I would have loved to see more of them. The story did have some interesting secondary characters, particularly the other druids and Amery.

One character that I couldn't quite get my head around was Gregor. There was so much mystery surround him, his past and his motivations, that I couldn't quite understand his character. I often didn't know where his alliances lay, and he just felt too jumbled to me. However, I believe Gregor will be the hero in a future installment of the series, so I imagine all will be explained at that point.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this audiobook that I received from the publisher, Tantor Audio.

(This review may contain spoilers).

I went through a brief period of being interested in reading about Scottish romances - specifically, highlanders. When I did a search on Amazon, this was one of the books that came up. And when I read the blurb, it looked really interesting (druids interest me quite a lot).

I really liked Glenna and Conall. I thought they worked quite well together and I liked the characters. When I read the blurb originally, I was worried that it might be a violent romance, with the woman being forced. But it actually turned out to be quite sweet.

I liked the way the characters grew in their relationship. It wasn't all about them sleeping together, which a lot of romances have. I did like some of the supporting characters, but I have to say that the bad guys didn't have any redeeming qualities to them. They weren't really likable at all. The Shadow (whoever he was) was somewhat interesting, but he was the only villain who seemed to have a deeper side to him.

I really did enjoy the book, though, enough that I bought the other books in the series. Although I found quite a few grammatical errors in the book, it was still readable and I felt that the language was fairly realistic for the time it was set (with a few exceptions).

All in all, the book was enjoyable and although it isn't the sort of one I wanted to re-read as soon as I'd finished it, I imagine I would really like to read it again at some point... and I'm fairly eager to read the other books in the series.

I love Donna Grant and her Dark Sword, Dark Warrior and Drangon King series so it pains me to give this one star. The entire book was just a jumbled choppy mess. The characters and scenes weren't fleshed out at all. There was really no emotional connection between them that I could see besides attraction and I couldn't connect with them at all during the story. I wanted to quit so many times but I was hoping it would get better. Sadly for me it didn't. I do not understand the high stars and reviews for this book at all.

Most of the book was the H & h going back and forth on them being together because they're fated to they can't be together because of what she is and his vows literally paragraphs apart! Repeatedly. It was very annoying. And we never knew what changed their minds most the time. It was like they were carrying out parts of the story in their own heads that we didn't get to read.

Honestly I don't know if I'll pick up the 2nd book in the series or not, even though I was more intrigued by the characters that it's about then the couple in this one. I might, but I definitely would not recommend this book or suggest it to someone who has never read her before. If this had been my first book by her I wouldn't have finished it and never would have picked up her other series which are absolutely brilliant!

What a pleasant surprise to come into a series fully expecting mediocrity and encountering a magical book full of wonderful characters and solid writing. Highland Mist tells of Glenna, the youngest of three Druid sisters who are prophesied to end the reign of evil MacLain, a despot who's been butchering the land and its peoples for some time. She is rescued by Conall, a Highland laird who has sworn to protect the Druids even as he denies his own Druid blood. I will definitely be on the lookout for more from this author!

This book was a really fast read that kept me hooked. There is something that I found lacking in her writing. I'm not sure if it was the lack of details or what because I had just finished reading about 6 of Marsha Canham's books. Canham's books are very detailed and I could picture everything and imagine a movie being made from it. This book was still great and I can't wait to finish the whole series.

A Highland adventure filled with Druids and sexy manly Highlanders. Three Druid women must come together, meet their mates and fulfill their destinies. This book is based on the youngest sister and her terrible past and finding her possible future. If she can get a certain Highlander to love her.
A very romantic story, with gentle love making and a lot of rippled chests.

Connall and Glenna are hotttt!!!! Donna Grant writes some seriously hot books. Glenna has lead a lonely existence until she meets Connall MacInness. She's never even been outside of her castle walls until Connall takes her as "hostage" in order to trade her for his sister Iona who has disappeared. Love the Druids and the magic. Just so wish this fiction was non-fiction....

Druids have always interested me and this Druid's Glen Series is wonderfully chocked full of mystery, intrigue and resistance. I love the storyline with the Prophecy and how the story plays out to ensure a good end to it. In this book we learn what happens to the family of the three girls mentioned in it. This book centers around the baby sister, Glenna, who was kidnaped days after she was born.

Connell's stubbornness to resist his mate and do the right thing to make the Prophecy come true adds much needed tension to this story. But seriously his stubbornness is understandable and creates this unique story to stand out.

Glenna is not what one would expect with the way she was raised. In fact quite the opposite. But her sweet character is believable because of her isolation force by the murderous MacNeil.

The ending to this story is full of emotion and new beginning.

I give it 4 STARS for being an outstanding read.

Narrator Performance: 🎧🎧🎧

Listening to HIGHLAND MIST was a nice experience for me however at the same time I had a hard time focusing on the story. I think that might have been due to the narration though because the few pages that I read were able to capture my attention. Unfortunately I listened to the majority of this book and I believe that it diminished my enjoyment of the novel.

Although my favorite genre is Paranormal Romance I haven’t read a lot of books with Druids and Fae in them. I suppose that’s because those elements using go with Historical Romances and I prefer my reads to take place in contemporary times. Anyways, though there were Fae present in this book they were an extremely small part of the story. I think that they’ll be more instrumental later on in the series. The Druids on the other hand were very much a part of the plot. After all, the FMC, Glenna is one. I appreciated the Celtic take on the magic Glenna was able to do.

Wow

What a powerful story!

It took me a while to get into but once I got to the deep end I didn’t want to stop!

This book has so much in it: love, magic, battle, intrigue, family, found and blood.

I truly enjoyed watching Glenna and Connal come together! They were truly fated mates and once they sealed their bond with affection it was all over. He still had some emotional baggage to work through which was interesting also!

The only thing I don’t like is that now I have to go get the rest of the books to finish the overarching story 😂😂

I’ve had this sitting for months in my nook waiting to be read. I don’t know why the hell I couldn’t get into it from the prologue but it just wasn’t time apparently. Now that I have read it I certainly regret waiting. Now I will need to binge read the rest!

Connall MacInness is Laird to his clan and when his sister goes missing, he makes it his mission to get her back from the MacNeil at any cost. Even “taking” his daughter, Glenna, as “hostage”. I put them in quotations because I don’t consider it kidnapping when Glenna herself suggested she go with him. She wanted to leave the MacNeil. It was a life of sorrow and hatred that she didn’t want. She wanted to be free so she took the chance when she saw it.

She is now free from one evil but is now in the hands of another. It’s not that Connall is evil, he just doesn’t like druids and he HATES MacNeils. Which is what Glenna happens to be. Even Connall is a druid, but he hates that half of himself. So when it is apparent Connall wants Glenna he expects her to give up her druid side as he did to be together. Glenna refuses to give up a part of herself though.

So what happens when truths about Glenna come to light? Connall is STILL stubborn and won’t take what is so easily given to him as long as he loves her for her.

Among those issues, there is still the MacNeil who wants Glenna back and will go to battle to get her. He has spies on the inside and expects his sinister plans to be executed.

I like that there is many faces to this story. Between the druids, wild card Gregor, loyal right hand Angus, and terrible, terrible Effie we have a story rich in deception and intrigue. There are a bit of grammar errors in here but it isn’t too much and it doesn’t take away from the story.

Can’t wait to start my bingeing!

So, this is probably better than 2 stars, because it was readable. However, it was full of inconsistencies and simplistic reactions. The characters were shallow and were not particularly smart. The book sets things up nicely for future stories with a likely relationship between Moira and one of the Warriors, and we can also expect something to happen between Gideon and the another girl.

Overall, I found Glenna to be strangely naive given her upbringing. She always kept her chamber clean, even though the rest of the castle was filthy. Because, of course she is sweet tempered and clean and good despite the fact she's never seen that behavior from anyone but one person, for a short period.

Conall is blinded by oaths that I never understood. His driving anger was not explained, even though it was what drove him. And he has to get past it before the book ends. His behavior just lacked clear justification for me. Why was he conflicted? What were these two different oaths that were so disparate that he turns his back on part of his responsibilities to focus on the other? And why was he so honor driven with one but not the other?

The role of the fae is not explained either. They meddle, but keep themselves secret. Perhaps a future book will explain the point, but I don't think I have the patience for more.

This is the first in the Druid Glen series and is connected to the Shield and the Royal Chronicles by Mystic Trinity (formally known as Dragonfyre). This book was enjoyed via Audible Escape.

Glenna, youngest of three sisters, is a druid that is a part of a 300-year-old prophecy. Kidnapped shortly after birth she has no idea that she is being raised by the very man she is suppose to help end. When her home is being attacked, she goes willing with the Laird of the rival clan, because a druid priestess told her too. This priestess is the missing sister of Connall. These would be lovers must over come many obstacles-his hatred for druids and her finding about the prophecy and her family.

I liked a lot about this book. I even liked Connall, but... I have this thing about heroes that are trying to deny their lust for the heroine by allowing other women to "satisfy" them. He attempts this twice, both times being caught by Glenna (Heroine). That is one quick way to pull me out of a story and make me want to light someone's pants on fire. Anyway, other than that (it goes no further than touching either time), I enjoyed this one. The characters, the world building, the lore involved are all well done and I will be continuing this series.

I found this book years ago on a free book listing site. This is the first book I ever read from Donna Grant and I'm still reading her books.
They're well-written the characters are very evolved. You'll laugh you'll cry you want to climb in there and smack some of them across the top of the head.
I won't go into details of the plot because the description doesn't a way better job than I would ever do.
Buy it, read it, you'll be hooked too.

Too much sex. Never thought I would say that but the storyline couldn’t carry it. I didn’t even finish it. Every single chapter was mostly sexual interactions. I would call this soft porn at best. Won’t be reading sequels either.
