There is prayer-and there is radical prayer. When is prayer radical? When it is "the utterance of your heart," teaches Matthew Fox-when you live every moment with the awareness that all of your thoughts, feelings, and actions have a profound impact on everyone and everything. Now, this leading theologian invites you to experience the transformative power of Radical Prayer. Drawing on the insights of Hildegard of Bingen, Meister Eckhart, Lao Tzu, and others, Fox shows you how the power of prayer can change your life and our world, and bring renewed creativity, excitement, and joy to whatever spiritual path you walk.
Timothy James "Matthew " Fox is an American priest and theologian. Formerly a member of the Dominican Order within the Catholic Church, he became a member of the Episcopal Church following his expulsion from the order in 1993. Fox has written 35 books that have been translated into 68 languages and have sold millions of copies and by the mid-1990s had attracted a "huge and diverse following"
I have been following Matthew Fox's spirituality since the mid seventies and have accepted many of his challenges.
In the spirit of Meister Eckhart and Hildegard of Bingen:
I bow in humility for not being more pro-active. I bow, for taking this world, created for all species, for granted. I bow, for not giving my full attention to the needs of others, the needs of our planet, the needs of animals and most importantly the need of being more in touch with my inner self.
I am in my twilight years and as I look to creation, the universe, my children, grandchildren I bow before all. Namaste.
Matthew Fox is a rare white man. I enjoyed these sessions very much. So pleased he includes bell hooks as one of his guides. Fox is a radical listened & it's well worth listening to him.
Still listening to the audio version...You don't just listen once. There is so much to consider, but the effects of listening are very calming. He gives a feeling of hope, spirituality and belief. More later as I go on. But I recommend it to everyone. I even think it would be great to have a discussion group around this one.
Haven't read any of his books for the last 25 years. But I love the way he looks at 'sin' and juxtaposes the charkras with the '7 deadly sins.' His cosmology continues to develop. I really love where his mind goes and where his heart is centered.
Matthew Fox has the depth and breadth of wisdom, understanding, intelligence, insight, and purposeful speech to be one of the greatest theologians I have ever read. This is the first book of his I have encountered and I cannot wait to dive further into his work. Highly recommend.
