As head of guest services at Bear Creek Ranch, it's Natalie Forrester's job to make everyone feel welcome.
But from the moment they meet, it's former rodeo champion Aaron Reyes who makes her feel special. The widowed cowboy may be kicking up some dust with his former in-laws, but he's all warmth and tenderness when it comes to Natalie and her infant daughter.
Aaron wasn't expecting the folks at Bear Creek to roll out the welcome mat for him. And he certainly didn't intend to fall for the caring single mother and her irresistible baby. He'd planned to skip town as soon as he took care of family business. But how can he leave with Natalie making him feel this is where he belongs… that he's finally come home?
New York Times bestselling author Cathy McDavid has written over 55 titles, many for Harlequin. She spends her days penning stories about handsome cowboys riding the range, busting broncs, and sweeping gals off their feet — oops, no. Make that winning the hearts of feisty, independent women who give them a run for their money.
Another freebie contemporary Western romance that I added to my huge kindle freebie stash so I might take a break and go back to history/biographies soon because the predictability in these books are starting to grate on my nerves. Natalie Forrester is the concierge at the Bear Creek Ranch. She is great at pleasing the visitors and likes her job. She is a single mother with a little girl. When the famous rodeo champion Aaron Reyes arrives, she doesn't know how he is going to shake up her life (and work). Aaron has known some bad times and heartache as he is a widower because he wife of less then a year suddenly died, even worse, she had been two months pregnant with their child. I do appreciate that there is a two year interval before Aaron falls for anyone new and it shows his great taste that it is with Natalie. But did she have to be a virgin with the guy that got her pregnant with her daughter so that she is practically a virgin with Aaron. It is fine with me if a heroine has some experience with men before settling down with 'the one' because I always wondered if women (and men) that only have one person's experience that they don't have regrets at some point. 224 pages and kindle freebie August 18, 2012 (Originally published August 2008) 2 stars
WAY back before my foray into different sub-genres of romance books, I would read books like this on a daily basis. This book was sweet, soft and so darn cute. When I finished it, I was reminded of when I first started reading harlequins and romance books in general. It reminded me that although sex is a part of our lives, ROMANCE is a bigger part. Very well written book. It flowed easily. And although the conflict was short-lived and pretty predictable, it still had me glued to the pages.
This was a sweet book, but slow in places. Aaron’s wife Hailey died, and in order for him to keep her trust fund going, Aaron had to live and work on her family ranch for 8 weeks a year. His brother in law Jake did not like Aaron, and blamed him for the death of his sister. There was a lot of emotions going on, and stand off’s at times. Natalie was born and raised on the ranch. She was now a single mom, working on the ranch. Jack was protective of her. He told Aaron to stay away from Natalie. The chemistry drew Natalie and Aaron together. Natalie tried to stay away from Aaron to protect her job. A lot can happen in 8 weeks, and sometimes it’s easier to give into a attraction than it is to fight against it. All in all good book. The price was free, so even better!
It just wasn't for me. I do not like spending 75% of the book with the back and forth: I like him. I like her. I want to kiss her, and onnnnnnnnn. We shouldn't but we do. Then the "we can't be together" but I want to. Then I leave her for her own good. Ending with ofcourse I love you and we will be together.
This is by far one of the WORST books I have ever read. The author crams information that is completely necessary in the first half of the book. The second half she skips major points and weeks at a time. I would not recommend this book to anyone. I have book OCD and that is the only reason I even finished reading this book. Save yourself! DO NOT READ THIS BOOK!
An alright category romance. Interesting enough story, let down by the foolishness of some of the characters sometimes. All the pontificating about motherhood and how guys who like kids couldn't possibly be horrible was also annoying. Not bad at all for a freebie.
A fast paced read which I need to meet my reading challenge for the year. It was a sweet romance about a widow and a woman with a kid but no dad. This good looking cowboy comes to her rescue. :)
This was such a great story. Sometimes people let guilt and anger rule them. Jake was a angry person and had it in for his former brother-in-law Aaron. He used and abused his management of the family business in all the wrong ways. When Aaron comes for his eight week stay as the condition of the trust that he inherited from his late wife Hailey, he meets Natalie one of the employees. Jake does not want sparks to fly between Aaron and Natalie. So good I hated for it to end.
This book is a simple but interesting plot about people hurting under different ways romantically. One a greiving widower, another a jilted unwed mother and another divorced man. There is defitely interest in these people synpathetically and the solution was pleasing. The only thing, it could involve a little more story about the resolution to the story. I like details to my endings.
Once I began reading, I couldn't stop. I finished this book in two days. Heart pounding, edge of the seat, emotional love story from start to end. Thank you, Cathy McDavid for this amazing cowboy love story. I fell in love with Hailey, Aaron and Natalie. And I am in awe of how Aaron loved both women but especially how he loved baby Shiloh.
I thought it might be too long and drag but it was a good read. And I found I wanted to know more about Jake and his story. Was happy to find the next book was his story. Going to start it next. Looking so forward to it.
If what you're looking for is a light read with cowboys, horses, and a little silly drama than this if for you. It was well written but forgettable. I'll likely never think of it again after this review.
A heartwarming story of lasting friendships and families living in rural Arizona on a working ranch getting ready for the season to start and in walks one sexy hunk of a man who throws the family and everyone into a tailspin.
A little boring, and sort of predictable. The random Spanish was not done very well, and the ending sort of fell flat, even though it was a happy one. An easy quick read if that is what you're looking for.
COWBOY DAD was good overall, but could have been better.
After his wife’s death, Aaron Reyes lost contact with her family, whom didn’t approve of their quick elopement, especially Hailey’s brother, Jake. Now, two years later, Aaron shows up at the family owned Bear Creek Ranch to claim Hailey’s share, which requires an eight week stay at the ranch to work.
Jake isn’t happy to see Aaron claim the share just days before it expires and when he sees the chemistry between Aaron and single mother Natalie Forrester, who is like another daughter to him, he makes things very difficult for Jake and latter Natalie.
Natalie wasn’t expecting to be caught off guard by the famous cowboy, especially after the fiasco with her three month old daughters MIA father. But from the start Aaron takes to baby Shiloh and worms his way into Natalie’s heart.
Winning her over isn’t even on Aaron’s mind, but being with her brings him back to life and heals him, as does the eight weeks at the ranch. Winning over the Tucker’s definitely isn’t easy as his former family by marriage follows Jake’s lead. Only his aunt Millie takes the time to get to know Aaron.
Aaron makes great strides at the ranch with suggestions, the Tucker’s learning of his own foundation and creating an annual donation event at the ranch that increases profits.
By the end of the eight weeks, Aaron and Natalie are faced with a separation that they thought they had figured out until Jake throws his last punch that threatens Natalie’s job.
Seeing the déjà vu between Natalie and Hailey both being willing to leave their lives behind, he ends up leaving, not knowing if he’d be back, but not before making a call to the business lawyer and passing on his share.
When Jake and Natalie learn Aaron intended to give the money the Shiloh everything changes in how they both see him. Jake now is forced to acknowledge is true love for Natalie and stop interfering and Natalie rushes to stop him before he leaves for good.
With help from Millie, Natalie catches Aaron and they are able to make up and plan the perfect honeymoon.
There wasn’t a lot of romance, but I liked have Aaron took so easily to Shiloh and how he always stuck up for her. The Jake’s interference got old and meddlesome at times. I didn’t think Natalie should have let him scare her that much.
I really enjoyed Cowboy Dad. We meet Natalie Forrester who is the guest services manager at Bear Creek Ranch and has lived at the ranch her entire life. She is a single mother of a 3 month old girl and has trouble finding a caretaker so the child is with Natalie all the time - even at work. When Natalie see Aaron Reyes drive onto the ranch, she believes he is looking for work, but that is far from the truth. Aaron is a famous rodeo champion and it turns out that Aaron is a part owner of the ranch. He arrives in a beat-up truck so he looks like he is completely broke but because of his fame in the rodeo circuit, he is actually very well off. Even so, he has had his share of heartache. Aaron is a widower who lost is wife when they had been married for less than a year.
This book was very well written and it flowed easily. I was hoping for more of a western cowboy story but still liked this book. Even though Aaron was a cowboy, he was a retired rodeo rider and there were lots of horses in the story but it still didn't feel like a western.
The character development was very well done. Natalie and Aaron were very likable. I found Aaron to be especially interesting. It was nice to see how easily he interacted with the other staff, guests and Shiloh (the baby). The secondary characters were great additions to the cast and helped the story move along.
I enjoyed this story and would recommend it to romance readers.

My Thoughts... This was another freebie that I added to my Kindle of freebie books. That being said, this was not a book for me. I had a struggle reading it, it just didn't draw me into the storyline. Actually, I started to read the book a week or two ago, then laid it aside and read 3 or 4 other books before picking this book up yesterday and finishing it. It was very predictable, and in the end they all lived happily-everafter. Therefore, I awarded it 2** This book is part of my Kindle library.
Cowboy Dad was a very very good book. Didn't want to put it down. Aaron found out he was part owner of Bear Creek Rance. His dead wife was part owner and left the ranch to him. One of the conditions of part owner of the ranch is that Aaron has to live there eight weeks every year. All the money he gets from the ranch he has put into a foundation in his wives name. It makes known the safety of wearing a helmet while riding horses. When Aaron goes to the ranch he meets Natalie who works at the ranch and has a baby girl. Her ex boyfriend didn't want to have anything to do with the baby. Jake is Aaron brother in law and Jake does not like Aaron. Jake figured Aaron took his sister away from him. Aaron was a rodeo star. Jake does everything he could to get Aaron off the ranch. All works out in the end. A very good read.
This was free from amazon. It was a good story about a single mom and cowboy who fall in love despite in intricate family structure for each of them. This book was excellent in the fact that neither the hero or heroine wanted to do anything to hurt each other. There was attraction right from the start, and, though they tried to navigate their relationship in such a way that neither of them damaged the other's career. Both supported the goals of one another, and took jobs seriously. This was not the usual cowboy story, either. The cowboy in question has already retired, and is opening a new chapter in his life. The heroine is ready for a change, however, she isn't looking for a man to help her out. That man just happens along. This is almost a perfect romance.
This was such a great book and great love stor Bear Creek Ranch is getting ready for the season and the one in charge is Natalie. She is enjoying her job and her newborn little girl, Shiloh, She is a single mother. The father wants nothing to do with the baby. Arron comes to the ranch to work for eight weeks. His wife left him her share of the ranch and he has to full fill eight weeks a year as part of the trust. Arron is attracted to Natalie and her to him, but her boss Jake doesn't want her around him because he blames him for taking his sister away and marrying her and then her death. Do you think that can keep them apart. Read this one Cathy did a great job and this is a great story
