We all need encouragement. Whether it's a hug when we're scared, an ear that will listen to our frustrations, hands to help with a heavy load, or words of support when we are unsure. And the words that best minister to our hearts are those from someone who knows exactly what we are going through. As a homeschool teacher you encounter challenges above and beyond the variety of tasks all moms face. Challenges that only another homeschool mom would understand. Jackie Wellwood, a mother of seven, committed to homeschooling her children over ten years ago. Here she candidly shares her personal experiences and how they drew her closer to the Lord. She also blends those challenges with encouraging scriptural insights and closes each devotional with a prayer and questions that can help you apply God's truths to your specific situation. It is Jackie's hope that these words of reassurance, together with the understanding and compassion you'll find in these pages, will strengthen your spirit as you walk with the Savior.
I have appreciated this book for the spare one to two minutes I may get (or steal) away from the kids and the other demands of life. It's like having a really good homeschool blog at your fingertips. Nothing beats an index when you want what you are reading to be the right thing at the right time. As a mother of 7, who homeschools, Jackie not only knows what she is talking about, but is very real when sharing herself and her own experiences and feelings. She doesn't clean it up to make herself look better - but tells it like it is so that we can all relate.
Honestly this book depressed me more than encouraged me. Having said that, there were some really good thoughts. However, I think in the season of writing this, she was extremely overwhelmed, and that flowed through to the pages. Instead of reading how she has overcome her challenges, you are essentially reading her pep talks to herself: how she is failing and what she should be doing instead. Also, since this is an older book, you definitely get the vibe that she feels stigmatized for homeschooling. I think homeschooling is much more common and accepted now, so I definitely didn't relate so much to those chapters where she urges her readers to go find other homeschoolers to fellowship with. I absolutely agree in fellowship and friendship, but I hope I never limit my circle to other homeschoolers.
While I appreciated the concise entries and found several of them encouraging/ challenging, there was also a lot here that just didn’t resonate with me. This book is for the homesteader with a full-sized van packed with kids. As a homeschooling mom of 3 who lives on half an acre and still can’t quite figure out how to garden, I found many of the entries interesting but unrelatable.
Very enjoyable quick devotional for homeschool moms. I appreciate her spiritual insight s as well as her vulnerability. God has used more than one devotion in this book to speak to my soul and given me strength to keep pressing on. I've gifted this book to many friends.
Wow what a beautifully written, honest book. If you homeschool, this is a must read. So incredibly helpful and encouraging. Can’t wait to read the follow up!
I really enjoyed this book! It is full of encouraging and edifying devotions inspired by the life of a homeschool mom and the challenges God has brought her through. Jackie is very real and makes you feel like you aren't the only one struggling in different areas but at the same time she is very uplifting with her encouragement. I don't necessarily agree with everything she has to say but all things considered it was a great book!
One of the best short devotionals that I have read. The daily focus verse and the heart filled devotion has been a great way to start my day. So glad I have her next book. It's a God and coffee kinda morning devo
I found a good deal of encouragement here, but also a bit of a struggle for me...have never felt like a 'typical' homeschool mom...so there is a bit of "square-peg" mentality for me on this one.
I read this devotional...I don't know how many times! Such a huge encouragement to homeschooling mothers! One Hundred and One...is my hands-down favorite of the few I've read on this topic.
