Once renowned for training frigid wives and shy mistresses in the art of lovemaking, Thomas Collins has been approached by the Duke of Wallingford to train his fiancée. The Duke has but one request—Thomas is to save the maidenhead for him. Much to an unwitting Catherine’s surprise, she finds herself blindfolded and bound to a bed, bound by a stranger she knows only by touch… But when Thomas sets out to train Catherine to respond to anything and everything the sadistic Duke might have in store for her, he discovers he must employ every ounce of restraint he possesses to keep from bedding the lovely captive who has stolen his heart.
Growing up in the south where the air is thick with stories steeped in legend and truth, Debra came by her love of romance novels honestly. Well…sort of. At an early age, she pilfered from her grandmother’s extensive library and has been a fan of the genre since.
A full time freelance writer, Debra especially enjoys combining history, mystery and a touch of taboo to weave stories with unforgettable, haunted heroes.
She lives in Alabama with her sexy real life hero, a couple of smart-aleck ghosts and a diabolical black cat.
Thomas Collins, the Earl of Claymore, has just accepted a job he isn’t sure he’s prepared for. At one time, Thomas was famous for schooling frigid wives and shy mistresses in the art of lovemaking. However, the one-time rake has long since retired his ways, and since the death of his wife has ignored the needs of his body and sealed away his heart. But all that changes when he accepts an offer from the Duke of Wallingford to seduce the man’s fiancée. The only catch is that Thomas cannot take the woman’s maidenhead.
Lady Catherine Spencer wakes up to find herself bound to a bed and blindfolded. She’s told of her repulsive fiancé’s deal, but despite her genteel upbringing, Catherine can’t seem to resist Thomas’s touch. As the two delve deep into lessons of desire, irresistible passion ensnares them both. Can Catherine teach Thomas to love again? Or will he be successful in his attempts to restrain himself from breaking his deal and making Catherine his?
Have those fans ready because Restraint is sure to leave you flushed and hot! Debra Glass weaves a seductive tale of romance as Thomas learns what it means to open his heart again and Catherine finds she can trust her instincts and fall for her mysterious “tutor.” While Restraint has numerous love scenes, I didn’t feel that they were ever repetitive. Indeed, each one moved the story forward to the book’s—for lack of a better word—climax. Both Catherine and Thomas were likeable characters and Wallingford was sufficiently distasteful that I was rooting for the hero and heroine to achieve their happily ever after. A luscious tale of romance set in nineteenth century England, I found Restraint to be, quite simply, irresistible.
This is the first book I've read by Debra Glass. I am a fan of historical romance/erotica and she has been on my TBR list for a while. I liked the premise of this book. Thomas agrees to tutor the Duke of Wallingford's virgin fiance Catherine in the art of love. But as he teaches her about sex and she responds to his every touch better than any woman he's ever known, even his late wife, he begins falling in love. Can he let Catherine marry the sadistic duke? Can he overcome his guilt over loving another woman after his wife's death? Will Catherine still love him when she finds out that he is 48 years old?
This book is well written although I wanted more depth. The issues that Catherine and Thomas face are solid and so is their journey to overcome them, but unfortunately it all seemed rushed and at surface level. I never felt truly connected to either character or to their plight. It was more like watching a movie than being in their shoes. Also, the erotic sex wasn't that erotic for me. Yes, the scenes were explicit but I never felt the heat.
I will give Debra Glass another try though and see if I like another one of her books better.
Apart from the fact that if the events of this book ever actually came to pass- there would probably be jail time imposed on the "hero" of the story or at least a high dollar lawsuit- it was a sexy little story.
