What could be more entertaining and magical than putting food into a cardboard box outdoors on a sunny day and taking it out fully cooked a few hours later? Solar cooking — a safe, simple cooking method using the sun's rays as the sole heat source — has been known for centuries and can be done at least during the summer in just about any place where there's sun. In Cooking with Sunshine, Lorraine Anderson and Rick Palkovic provide everything you need to know to cook great sun-fueled meals. They describe how to build your own inexpensive solar cooker, explain how solar cooking works and its benefits over traditional methods, offer more than 100 tasty recipes emphasizing healthy ingredients, and suggest a month's worth of menu ideas.
I though this book did a good job of introducing solar cooking, and giving plenty of references for more information. I would like to try some of the recipes sometime.
I was fascinated! My husband has always been an outdoors man, but he had never made or seen one used. In he area I live I would have about 6 weeks of good sunlight left to year so won't have an opportunity to try until next spring. It will top my list then, The illustrations are good, text well written and recipes simple.
This is an excellent book for people getting into solar cooking. It includes the simplest directions I've found anywhere (including online) to make a panel cooker, as well as directions for box cookers. Everything you need to know, including recipes. Great investment.
Informative, lots of recipes, and suggested further reading. I thought this a very good book for getting started on solar cooking. As soon as it gets a bit warmer, I'll be trying this out.
