Another book of quilting humor -- from the author of the ever-popular book "That Dorky Homemade Look!" Funny woman Lisa Boyer is an expert quilter. And she's determined to enjoy making quilts. In fact, she will not -- absolutely will not -- let the risk of making a mistake, or a less-than- perfect quilt, keep her from relishing the task! In the 34 chapters of this new book, Lisa covers: The need for new fabric colors -- "blurple," "rorange," and "brellow," to name a few; The virtues of lumps in a quilt; How to share your bum fat quarter at a fabric exchange; How crocheting doilies will drive you back to quilting; How to cope when your quilts lack depth and dimension. Lisa Boyer is a breeze of fresh air. She brings you back to the pleasure of quilting with her confessions and adventures in Stash Envy!
Read it for 'a change, because I have sewn about anything you can imagine, knitting is my fav......of all crafts...anywho, light, informatve and well written, I still wonquilt, but I would read another of her books.
This was a fun, quick read for anyone who thinks her quilts are not quite up to "public" standards. Lisa Boyer encourages through her humor, and shares quilting stories we all can recognize.
This light, humorous read will have all quilters relating to the little stories and ideas contained in the chapters of this book. Those who are not quilters, might just gain some insight into the wonderful world of quilting. In one chapter, Ms. Boyer lays down some great, hilarious ideas for a different set of judging rules for quilt shows. In another, she tells why you should never ask an opinion of your husband when it comes to fabric or design choice. I laughted out loud quite often while reading this book.
Found this book at a thrift shop and it came with a cute packet of stationery, so I couldn't resist.
I didn't care for this book, and it's not because I'm not a quilter. It was the repetitive humor which wasn't all that funny.
Every other sentence, the author was trying to make a joke. Rather than filling her essays/short stories with hundreds of mediocre jokes, she should've focused on writing just a couple of really good jokes.
All the humor was focused around her love of chocolate, her husband doing/saying something weird, alien-shaped fabric blobs, etc.
I'm not a quilter (per se), but I do have a love of fabric and have made patchwork blankets for friends. I enjoyed Lisa humor and could identify myself in a number of her chapters. Maybe I'm a closet quilter and didn't know it!
If you are a quilter, you will absolutely identify with this book. It is a collection of articles, or blog entries, or thoughts.... It's not a story. It was a fun read. If you are not a quilter, you wouldn't get it.
A fun way to entertain oneself while grabbing a bite to eat between quilt blocks. Light, simple and entertaining yet probably wouldn't make much sense to a non-quilter. Overall a fun and enjoyable read.
Hilarious book that will be appreciated by all quilters of any age or quilting experience -- novice to master! Read it in one sitting -- humorous -- recommend
As a quilter I related to several of her chapters. All were funny. Some were hysterical. Simple things we do everyday are presented in an Erma Bombeck fashion. Very quick read
I read this books years ago. Loved the adventures and confessions the author Lisa Boyer spoke on. Book is very funny..reminded somewhat of Erma Bombeck.
