I have read 3 of Ms. Roberts stand alone books in one day. I found this one a heck of a lot better than one of them. No sex every five minutes. This one had a story! Lo, and behold! It was a nice story for a change, no matter how stereotypical were some of the characters.
I did, however, have issues with male main character kissing the poor counselor on practically immediate first meeting. It seems that is a theme Ms. Roberts tends to play on, the whole strong male basically smugly knowing he will 'have her'. Well, that might appeal to some people who swoon at the whole Rhett Butler crap, but for me I found leaving out the kiss would have allowed far more tension to the female's thinking, especially since he had her pinned under him!
I did start to enjoy Chase's character after around the halfway mark when he finally leaves her be! Did Ms. Roberts realise she was making him into a stalker, and a boor, and then decide she ought to rein that character in? I dunno! All I know is, the whole thing of many of her novels is the women get all tangled up in knots - No, i do not want him! Oh, wait a minute, I can't live without him! Oh, no, hang on a tick, changed my mind, he is an ass. Sheesh....
I did notice however many many scenes and wording so alike in some of her later books I stick to my original idea (and I mentioned it in another review) that she puts scenarios, names, places, and plotlines in a hat and draws out what is needed, then writes a book. Heck, she probably by the seems of things, has one for exact scenes and words which go with that scene!
Not a bad book, I must admit I did enjoy it. It took me back to my holidays in USA in the summertime in the mountains, so I give her points on the descriptions.
