I've been writing for a long time-- comics, games (like Destiny 2), books-- there's always *something.* But lately I've gotten into modern-day YA novels with the Alex Van Helsing series and now middle grade with the new Young Captain Nemo series.

Voor mij is er een duidelijk verschil tussen het eerste en het tweede deel van deze reeks. Het eerste deel is niet alleen een plaat of acht korter dan het tweede, er gebeurt ook ontzettend weinig in. Of dan toch weinig dingen die echt noodzakelijk zijn om het verhaal te kunnen volgen, de rest is vrijwel allemaal opvulling. De meeste actie speelt zich af in het tweede deel, en dat onevenwicht weegt wel zwaar aan. Het had beter verdeeld kunnen en moeten worden, volgens mij.

Daarnaast vind ik dat, naarmate Album 2 vordert, het verhaal wel erg grauw wordt. De belangrijkste personages zijn bijlange niet meer aangenaam, en de plot zelf is nu ook niet al te opwekkend. Er had een iets positievere noot in mogen zitten.

Wel gefeliciteerd vanwege de tekeningen, want die zijn er knap, en ook het kleurgebruik mag er zijn. Bovendien: een hoofdpersonage dat het grootste deel van de tijd een arm kwijt is, dat zien we ook niet vaak. Vernieuwend!

Mooi artwork en daarvoor wel de moeite. Verhaallijn is vaag, met onbevredigend einde en vreemde sprongen.

Nice designs in settings and machinery don't make up for the plot. Or rather the protagonists; the plot is basic but enjoyable when the characters are desperatly thin and/or forgettable.
I lost a great part of any interest in the story when the main female character came up fresh as a rose 3 weeks after losing an arm (!). Then, the few attempts to give consistency to the other roles are as weak as they come (oh, the brute in love with the bitch; be still my fleeting heart) and it all goes down the drain.
When I'll add that it doesn't even end properly (this is a first cycle and I don't think there'll ever be a second one), this will definitely put the last nail in the coffin of what could have been, but is not, a nice steampunk story.

Steampunk ist einfach nicht meins und das wusste ich auch vorher; das spielt die größte Rolle bei meinen zwei Sternen. Trotzdem ist die Geschichte auch nicht so prickelnd. Ein mächtiger Mann, der der mächtigste Mann der Welt werden möchte. Das ist doch wirklich kein besonderer Einfall.

The story doesn't develop much more in relation to the first volume. Nice hints on the last page, generally a good idea for the story but not well realised. Would need like eight more volumes.
