Hey guys its Jessica. Sorry I’ve been MIA for so long. I apologize for the long overdue wait for Janet’s next book. You’ve all been very patient and loyal fans that she loves. She has been working on this book over the last year and a half while dealing with her battle with cancer. It saddens me to say that she peacefully lost this battle this past weekend while her family was by her side. I apologize if this feels sudden, she was a very private person even to her family. And she truly thought of all of you as her family. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Originally read in 2014, re-read in 2016.
I can remember the first time I read Charming the Highlander and feeling like Mary and Michael really got the shaft. I felt so incredibly sad for the life they would never have together. I had mixed feelings going into this book but Libby was the perfect heroine to help Michael heal. I loved their story.
Robbie, Michael’s eight year old son, was set on finding a new wife for his father and the internet brought him Libby.
Michael was a perfect quiet, man of few words, alpha male. I loved his gentle yet forceful approach in “wooing” Libby. What truly made the story for me, though, was Robbie. An old soul, I found him endearing and hilarious.
Every interaction Robbie had with strangers brought a smile to my face.
In picking a favourite book in the series, I think this book ties with Robbie’s book. I was satisfied that Mary finally got her peace and Michael got the happiness he was robbed of in the first book. Loved it!!!

Robbie thought about that, studying her for a good long time. "I think I'll call ya Gram Katie," he finally decided. "'Cause old people like it when I call them things like that."
He turned to face James, completely oblivious to Katherine's horror.”

Una historia maravillosa que me ha hecho suspirar, porque MacBain se merecía encontrar el amor, y no podía haber dado con una pareja mejor. He vuelto a las montañas de Pain Creek, en Maine, convertidas en las Tierras Altas gracias a la presencia de los guerreros escoceses que viajaron en el tiempo desde el siglo XII al XXI por la magia de un viejo druida. Adaptarse o morir, ese parece ser el lema de estos hombres. Y de los diez que viajaron solo quedan cinco.
La historia vuelve a sumergirnos en el pequeño pueblo de montaña, pero, en esta ocasión, estamos en la época de Navidad. La nieve, los árboles de Navidad, el día de Acción de Gracias... todo evoca calor de hogar.
La trama es sencilla, y gira estrechamente en torno a la historia de amor de Michael y Libby, aunque el druida Daar vuelve a hacer de las suyas, y luego está Robbie, el precioso hijo de Michael, que jugará un papel importante. Es una historia planteada para caldear el corazón.
Michael es un guerrero escocés, y no lo olvida a pesar de que ya han pasado doce años desde que aterrizó en aquella nueva época, por eso educa a su hijo como lo hubiera hecho de estar en Escocia. Dos veces ha amado, y las dos veces se le ha partido el corazón tras la muerte de las dos mujeres. No quiere arriesgarse una vez más, pero Libby no le dejará opción, y Robbie tampoco. Como personaje, MacBain enamora, porque tiene la arrogancia de los escoceses medievales, pero también un instinto protector, una mentalidad abierta, y una sensibilidad exquisita que, aunada a la ternura, despierta sentimientos profundos, a pesar de que su hermetismo no permite que se le conozca bien.

This is the best of the series so far. The first two were enjoyable but average reads, but this one had those extra "somethings" that make a book above-average for me. The first 'something' is Robbie - 8 years old and totally in charge, in a very disarming way. Another 'something' is Libby's gift, which has frightened her and caused her to flee from her life as a trauma surgeon in California and move to Maine. There she decides to open a glass-crafting shop (a secret hobby of hers for years) and, of course, meets Michael - which was Robbie's plan, since his goal is to find a new love for his dad, and he works toward that goal every day. The third "something" is a snowy owl that Robbie befriends and names Mary (the name of his dead mother). When these two work together, Libby & Michael don't stand a chance of sticking to their resolve to stay single.
The only weak point for me was Libby's determination to keep her 'gift' secret, even after she's discovered all the other strange & magical things that go on among and around these 13th century Highlanders.

You have to be prepared to suspend belief and leave reality at the door with this series, and make a decision to just enjoy it – it’s surprisingly easy to do.
Despite a plethora of opportunities, eye-rolling is not allowed. Sure, there are destinies to be fulfilled, an owl that may or may not be a reincarnation, a modern-day magical healer, a 1400-year-old druidh, and highland warriors and warhorses transported 800 years forward in time. Oh, and of course, insta-lust to love in record time. Just go with it, people.
There is something about this series that just works for me. It is escapism reading, light without being fluffy. It is serious, but doesn’t take itself too seriously. It is quick and easy to read, surprisingly uncomplicated, but well written within its context. And while the elements mentioned above may seem ridiculous, the author somehow makes it work.
This is Michael MacBain’s book, along with his son Robbie (who we first met as ‘Baby’ in Charming the Highlander). If anyone deserves a happy-ever-after, it’s Michael. He has been in love twice in his life – once in A.D.1200 before being transported forward in time, and again 9 years ago with Robbie’s mother. Having suffered through their tragic deaths, he is determined never to love again.
Eight year old Robbie has other ideas, and places an ad on the internet to rent the house where his late mother used to live. Wise beyond his years, he knows that someone special is waiting to heal his father’s heart and bring love back into his life. He is sure that he can find just the right woman to answer the ad.
Libby Hart, was told long ago that she was destined to be a healer, and she was fulfilling this prophecy by being a successful and talented surgeon. But when she unexpectedly, unintentionally and inexplicably heals two critical patients with nothing but her bare hands, she doesn’t know what else to do but run. When she sees the ad for the rental house in Maine, she doesn’t hesitate.
Libby and Michael both have secrets they are unwilling to share. Libby doesn’t want to be viewed as a freak, and the last time Michael told a woman he was more than 800 years old, she ran away and died before making it back to him. He won’t take that chance again.
This series will possibly be too far-fetched and hokey for some people to tolerate, but it’s perfect for me as a treat between reads, and I’m really looking forward to Robbie’s book next in Tempting the Highlander.

This is the third book in the Highlander series by Janet Chapman, involving some 13th century Highlanders that travel through time to the modern world. I probably would not have liked this at all if I had not read the previous 2. The first book explained a lot regarding Michael and his son and I was actually looking forward to seeing Michael get his HEA.

Michael and Lobby's story remains one of my favorites in this series. I love all the little hints of the future for the next generation too! Can't wait for the next in the reread

A bit tame for the series, but a very enjoyable read.
Libby (Elizabeth) Hart is a surgeon looking for a place to get away.... Her grandmother told her that she had a gift, but Libby never quite knew what that gift was until the day of a horrible train accident. In the trauma ward, the husband of a critically wounded older lady asked Libby to pray with him over his wife before her surgery. When Libby did, she felt herself surrounded by light and colors, and she felt herself enter the woman's body and locate the sources of the woman's trauma and injury; Libby felt herself heal the woman, but passed it off. In the operating room, as Libby was about to open the woman up, the surgery staff was wild-eyed... the x-rays, vital signs, and everything else pointed to the woman being completely fine - no trauma, no injury. Libby and the staff checked and triple-checked that this was the right woman; no one could explain what happened, and everyone, including Libby, was afraid. As Libby left the operating room, she felt the patients around her pull her - trying to get her to give them her healing gift, too. Libby ran, but remembered a young boy in a coma, Jamie; she went to Jamie's side and used her gift to heal him. Then Libby really did run, realizing it would be impossible to explain this gift she had... and unsure of how to use it. What does it all mean? Libby's grandmother is dead, and her mother isn't ready to face what Libby knows is the truth.
So Libby packs her bags, asks her mom to do what she can for Libby with the hospital, sends a letter of apology and asks to be relieved from her hospital duties for awhile. Libby finds a home in Maine for rent - only $400. And the landlord is a young boy, Robbie MacBain.
Robbie's newest "pet" is a white owl he's named Mary, after the mother he never knew. His mother died from injuries sustained in a car accident when she was 8 months pregnant with Robbie. Robbie's aunt Grace (Mary's sister) brought him back to his father, Michael MacBain... and their story is in book #1. But Mary has told Robbie that Libby is the right one to be there, and the right one for his father, Michael.
Michael and Libby have an almost "instant" connection, as all the men and women seem to do in these books. But there is less ripping off clothes and more "magic"... Michael MacBain has accepted that magic brought him and 9 other men from 13th century Scotland to the present (12 years ago). Michael is, perhaps, one of the only men who can accept and embrace Libby's healing gift without question. But can Libby trust Michael with her secret? And can Michael share his with Libby? The last woman he told (Mary) ran away, and she died before he could see her again. Can Michael trust in love again enough to love Libby? And what about everything Libby walked away from - her career, the "magic" healings, and James a long-time friend and surgeon?

The chemistry between Michael and Libby didn't seem so forced or rushed in this book. It felt more organic. And while they had an instant attraction, even their relationship seemed more "real". Michael's protectiveness was balanced with his sensibilities; Michael MacBain embraces this "modern" world as much as he's able and still retains himself and his warrior instincts.
The mystery of Robbie is starting to enfold, as well. And Winter, Grey and Grace's seventh daughter born on the winter solstice has finally arrived.
It's an easy read with a bit of steam and a lot of acceptance... fun for a wintery night, when you've got a hot cup of cocoa or coffee and nothing better to do than to melt into a fantasy about a giant of a Highlander man!

8/1/09 - Good book about frightened surgeon Libby running away then crashing her car into a pond and rescued by Micheal MacBain once a Scottish warrior. My first book by Janet Chapman and I'm anxious to read more.
2/11/16 - This paranormal romance was just as good reading it again six years later. It had the right mix of plot, action and romance with a little magic.

Otra vez la autora no decepciona. Otro éxito. La historia es un tanto mas complicada en si porque la autora incorpora magia en gente común. Si bien los personajes son ricos y muy humanos, la autora deja algunos cabos sueltos al final. No es algo muy obvio, ni que te altere la generalidad pero hubiese sido lindo que todo tuviera su cierre.
De todas formas es un libro que me gustó y de todas formas le puse las mismas 4 estrellas que los libros anteriores.

Totally enjoyed re-reading this one. I do believe "Wedding the Highlander" is my favorite in the series!

I really don't see how this novel received such highly rated reviews. I found it to be quite dull, with no real antagonist, and a lack of plot. The characters were quite boring, and the love scenes were lacking. I had hoped for more to Michael's story. I was left disappointed.

Libby Heart, a surgeon in California, discovers that there is something going on with her, she is able to heal others with a touch of her hands, so she goes to the other side of the country to get some clarity, and ends up crashing into a pond, and is rescued by a breathtaking highlander, who sets her teeth on edge. Michael is trapped with the 'moderns' in a century he doesn't understand after being brought here by a wizard, whom messed up his spell bringing other highlanders with him. After loving and losing two women, he doesn't know if he can trust another to give his heart to, but with his eight year old son's influence, Michael will start to realize that when you find someone to hold onto you fight to be with her forever.Wedding The Highlander is the third in this wonderful series, that I keep falling for over and over....Janet Chapman is a new favorite author. In a way her humor is similar to Sandra Hill, however there is still a serious tone to the story, and a tender romance in every story that will pull at the readers heart strings....After seeing Michel in the previous two books, I was excited to read his story. From the first book, my heart went out to this characters, and Chapman definitely fulfilled every wish for him....Wedding The Highlander was definitely a sparkling gem...I felt enchanted by the romance that builds between Libby and Michael, and his son Robbie will just make you smile, I think I just loved everything about this book, and there was still a good plot that will keep you flipping those pages as fast as you can read them....Definitely A 5 for me!!!!

Leave reality as you know it at the door when you decide to enter these books! There is SO MUCH going on from the time traveling warriors to mothers who's spirits are in great snowy owls that come back and make sure all is well with sons and ex lovers...magical, healing physicians.... magical staphs...1400 yr old Driuds.. The list goes on and on... But even with ALL this it's a sweet story.
The only thing I had trouble with, even with all the crazy magical goings on... is that on one page the main heroine doesn't want to make love in the bed because it's Mary's ( who is now the owl) old bed that she may have shared with Michael the 800 yr old warrior who is now her beaux... Ok fine.. So they go out to the garage to do "it" in the back of her Suburban truck...and are saddened by this so she needs a bed... it wasn't right... But a chapter or 2 later company shows up and now there are FOUR other bedrooms in the house.... Hmmmm why couldn't they use one of those beds when we were all icked out about Mary's bed??!?! Out of all the crazy talk in this story that is really what bugged me! LOL

After mentioning that I enjoyed the Outlander series, an acquaintance lent me this book and another from the Highlander series. I'm glad I read the two of them because it made me realize how formulaic these books are. I got the impression though, that it had more to do with the type of book it was and not necessarily the author's lack of imagination (I'm sure there are certain guidelines you have to follow as an author - meet pretty in chapter 3, conflict resolution in chapter 17, etc, etc).
If you're thinking about reading these books, I would recommend the Outlander series first because Gabaldon does it better. If you've read the Outlander series and are looking for something similar, do not choose this series. It will not leave you satisfied.
I rated it two stars because:
1) Formulaic characters and plot.
2) I would not read this again nor would I recommend it to anyone else to read.
3) Writing was tolerable.
4) I did get through the book (i.e., it's not so bad that I had to stop.)

The story lacked any kind of true antagonist, and although the main character had some interesting personal strife, that part of the story took a back seat to the constant cooking and decorating. The heroine is a skilled surgeon and discovers she is not as normal as she thought, and seeing her deal with the loss of control was interesting, but I wish that aspect of her character was expanded a little more. Instead, she spent her time shopping, decorting, et cetera. The story stagnated because of it. Then, the one mysterious person that could have shed light on the heroine's abilities disappears to be saved for another sequel, I'm sure.
The father-son relationship in this book was well-developed, and even though this book is just a part in a series, those characters felt whole.
Overall, I had a bland experience reading these characters, and I wouldn't read this book again or recommend it to friends.

Libby runs away from California after she heals 2 patients. She rents a house from a boy Robbie MacBain. His dad is a hottie Highlander who was thrown ahead through time 800 years. Both women in his life that he loved died running to him. He is afraid to fall in love again.
There is not much suspense to this book at all. Just a bunch of "geez! hurry up and spit it out!" moments. It's a light read with a cute story.
My only complaint is the picture on the back cover of a supposedly very good looking highlander WITH A MULLET?!? Naaaa!

I already knew that I'd loved this story becaus of Michael, my fav Scot so far and his wonderful child Robbie.
Hqving decided to have a new wife for her father, Robbie puts an ad for renting his mother's old house and a very confused trauma doctor Libby comes to live in the house.
Both Michael and Libby are strongly gifted with powers so they are destined to fall in love since the beginning.

I was looking forward to Michael's HEA. Michael had landed 800 years into the future with the MacKeage clan he had been fighting. Michael was the loner/outsider. All of his relatives that had been transported with him had died trying to get back home. I was happy to see Michael have his HEA and become friends with the MacKeage clan.
This book had several laugh out loud moments. I loved it!

Janet Chapman is one of my favorite favorite authors. Her books are magical, mystical and whimsical. A wonderful choice for reading by the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate. :-)

(Explícito). El mejor. Ya era hora de que Michel encontrara la felicidad absoluta. Sabía que me iba a encantar Robbie, es lo más adorable del mundo. Wow. Es absolutamente genial. Todo transcurre como en tres meses, no se instantáneo el enamoramiento y el sucesivo matrimonio como en los libros anteriores, aquí Libby y Michael tuvieron paciencia y algo de orgullo para poder aprender a confiar en el otro; se me hicieron más reales, como si ellos sí tuvieran los pies en la tierra. Me sorprendió mucho El Paso del tiempo en este libro y creo que por eso nada más tendré en cuenta leer sobre Robbie (es todo un amor, tierno, cariñoso, ... solo puedo pensar en todas las cosas buenas del mundo para describirlo, es un bebé). Libby me encantó, mis respetos para este personaje y para Michael también que volvió a creer en el amor una vez más, ambos se lo merecen, al igual que Robbie. Todo lo de este libro está bien; tiene un toque de todo, mucho humor (me encantaban las partes donde hablaban sobre la estatura de Libby y luego ese primer encuentro con Michael y Robbie cuando ella llegó a Pine Creek, adorables), mucha ternura, amor, amistad, puras cosas buenas. Solo que aquí Daar no me pareció de mucha ayuda, solo en algunas ocaciones para Libby pero ella hizo todo el trabajo, ella procuró tener una mente abierta con lo que respecta a su don gracias a su abuela, después del miedo inicial y de su “huida” comprendió que lo que más quería era ser feliz y si eso significaba cambiar de profesión que así fue, no le tuvo miedo al cambio. En cuanto a Michael, es puro encanto; según el que no iba a volver a enamorarse ni a casarse por su “mala suerte” (creo, pero en sí era a su pasado y de que sentía que había perdido partes de su corazón con sus antiguos amores) pero en cuanto empezó sentir cosas por Libby prácticamente las aceptó y tuvo mucha paciencia con ella para que le hablara sobre porque huyó de California, el sabía que ella debía de confiar en él para contarle sobre su viaje en el tiempo (esa parte fue muy hermosa. Todo fue muy hermoso. Esta narrado en tercera persona y ofrece los puntos de vista de los protagonistas y de otros personajes...

I have to say that I read this series of books many years ago in paperback. I have almost all of Janet Chapman's books. Her loss to this world was a shock. But I am glad that her works are still there for me to reread and still enjoy her world of mystical Highlander.
Now that said...this book is about Michael, whom we met in the first book. He was not happy with being brought forward in time. But in this case we read that it was his fate as well as Greylan's to be brought to this modern day. He meets Libby a woman on the run from her own life. Can these two people be what the other one is in need of to heal? Her new found ability has her scared but the mountains give her balance with peace. Can he be her safe haven for what is in store for her? Will Robbie play matchmaker with her and his father?

Me encanto esta historia; En el amor hay segundas oportunidades aunque uno se cierre a sentir de nuevo ese sentimiento este es caso de Michael, su primer amor en la nueva época no duro mucho le quedo su hijo, su mayor bendición que hizo que saliera adelante, Robbie hará lo posible para que su padre sea feliz de nuevo con la ayuda de su tía Grace conseguirá una novia para su padre. Libby se ve obligada a dejar todo para empezar de nuevo en otra parte por un anuncio en internet conoce a la familia MacBain, con un poco de suerte y magia hará que ellos se enamoren sean felices. Robbie tiene una mascota que es la reencarnación de su madre lo ayudara hacer algunas travesuras, pero también a unir a esta pareja.

Oh my goodness, these Highlander books just keep getting better. This story is about a Michael McBain and his road to recovery after losing two women that he loved. He felt there was no future for him except through his son Robbie. Robbie’s mother had died on her way back to marry Michael in spite of his past. Elizabeth Hart was a trauma surgeon in California when she went through a crises of her own and she needed to get away from everyone around her. That was when she saw Robbie’s ad on the internet concerning renting his Mom’s home. She took a step that changed her life forever. This was an absolutely wonderful book.
I know there will never be any more of these books by Janet Chapman but they are stories that need to be enjoyed by everyone.

I am reading this series out of order -- just in the order I find the books. I really liked the first book I found and put the series on my "purse list" to find the others. But after two highly average books, I'm going to cross the rest off my list. The series are alright, but not great. I think the author hurries the feelings of the romantic female lead. She is unnaturally attracted to a "strange" man too quickly.

This was one of the first romance novels. I was way to young to be reading adult romance but my parents never put limits to my reading and I'm glad thay didn't, I found great stories with awsome characters.
This book will always have a place in my heart and (once I purchase a physical copy) in my library.

Like others in this series, this installment was extremely predictable. This is not necessarily a bad thing, especially if you like romance and are looking for an escape from reality.
It was nice to read about characters that we met earlier in the series and see how they have developed.
Overall a satisfying experience although this book is firmly in the 'light weight' category.

These books just keep getting better every time I read them.
I love Michael and Libby's story.
Robbie just wins your right from the start.
From the start when Libby her car spins out of control and crashes into a pond on Michael's Christmas tree farm right up to Her Christmas surprise near the end of the book, it's a story that you just don't want to put down.
