Personal stories of family members and friends of alcoholics who relate the struggles and cries that often go hand-in-hand with alcoholism; relates how Al-Anon members overcame these seemingly insoluble problems.
This is my second book that was written for Al-Anon that I have read. Although I have been lucky enough to not been impacted by an Alcoholic in my life time, I do find the writings to be just as useful for day to day problems that each and everyone goes through that is caused by friends, families, etc. The main teaching is that you have to understand that everyone is not perfect and most importantly the only thing you can control is yourself. It is up to you if you decide to feel hurt by other's actions or not to feel hurt by other's actions. Al-Anon provides some tools to deal with this; their biggest tool is to "let go and let God" and rely on the assistance of others that you can safely talk, vent, etc with. So I give this book five out five because its really a must read for everyone.
This book reminds me of the individual stories that appear in the back of the Big Book. They are inspirational and remind me that if we all put our problems in a pile, we would gladly grab our own back compared to others. A book that can help keep my perceived challenges in perspective.
Great book with very real stories of people sharing situations that a lot of people would rather hide. This powerful openness and honesty are so helpful since, honestly, I feel most human beings have experienced some degree of at least one of the stories shared in this book.
