He is also the author of The Island at the Center of the World, a national bestseller about the Dutch founding of New York. Shorto is senior scholar at the New Netherland Institute and was formerly the director of the John Adams Institute in Amsterdam.

This book is good for grades k-2. I liked the first part of the book and second part was ok but I'm not sure how children would like it. Students could compare and contrast the real Cinderella story to this Cinderella. The genre is traditional literature.
