Good thriller but very detailed which can be a good thing but can also make the reader lose interest. Paul Tallis is a strong main character. While I'm not a big fan of these type of stories, overall, I enjoyed this and would read the next book.
Overall, good fast-moving plot and some good insight on Russian-Chechen relations, but the characters lacked distinction. I didn’t find that I either cared about their end - or their struggles along the way. Not a great deal of character development, other than with Ruslan and the Sprite, who seemed more believable and full-orbed than many more front-line characters. I was quite relieved when finally the ....someone gets shot. About time!
The pacing and British banter were excellent, full marks. Also full marks for not torturing a happy ending out of a grim situation.
If you like political commentary, read it, you’ll enjoy it being turned to good fictional ends. If you’re expecting “The Martian” or any of the Bourne sequences, you may be disappointed.
For some unexplaned reason Graham Drake's name changed after two thirds of the book morphing ino Graham Darke. Who ever proofed read the manuscript obvious didn't do a job worth being paid for! Major lame ending to the story. Overall not worth spening the time to read!
Amish barns with paintings of quilt squares on them are burning. Does the arsonist have a grudge against the Amish, or against the artist who's stretching the rules by decorating the barns? And how will the arson investigator and the artist resolve their mutual attraction?
It's a fairly bland story, but the setting and the crime are novel enough for the genre to make it readable. I did get extremely tired of the hero and heroine obsessing over their first kiss, though.
If you enjoy reading Bond, Bourne, and Girl with a Dragon Tattoo novels, you will enjoy this one. It was full of intrigue and an intricate web of who-dun-it?! I don't particularly care to read about political warfare, but if that is something that peaks your interest, then I suggest you read this book.
Better than I expected - picked it up because I only saw the spine and thought Gerald Seymour was the author. The characters were well developed and not the stereotypes you usually find in a spy thriller.
The agent Paul Tallis is send to Russia to search for a old friend and current spy Darke. The story starts out slow until he reach Chechnya. A lot of action starts to happen. Some of the conclusions given in the end of the story is a bit of a mystery of how they were reached.
Not what I usually read...was good...more like three and a half stars...have another book by the same author with the same main character. will read it at some point.
