There is hope and a better world is possible

This book is not for the cynical and world weary. It is for those willing to open up their hearts and minds to new horizons and the possibilities of hope and love. The author plainly believes that individual choices, and the decision, in particular to adopt an attitude of generosity, openness, and determination to live in a better world can help that dream become real.

To accomplish that requires, of course, that we seek help and the guidance of others, particularly those who love us and whom we love, as well as have faith in something beyond our narrow self interests, and the narrow confines of our everyday lives. Choosing this path is often not easy, It requires the courage to launch out into the deep, unchartered waters, as in the title of this book. The potential rewards and lessons to be learned from the experience, however, are immeasurable. The author speaks truths that some seek to obscure, but which ultimately are the only ones worth knowing.

by author, Acacia Slaton Beumer

The author refers to this book as an essay several times, so I wondered if this began as an essay and evolved into more as she was inspired. The cover art is compelling and a wonderful graphic to represent the theme of the book.
Her exuberance and passion for the message she brings regarding her belief in the Christian Bible and deeply felt spiritual experience shines through each page. Acacia wants to share the principals of her faith and personal experiences with the readers. If you are not of the Christian faith, please read with an open heart and mind.

I’m not sure where to begin as I review this book, Launch Out Into the Deep!, it’s not because it isn’t good, but because it is great – it’s more the style that throws me a bit, but that could also be because I’m reading it on my Kindle Fire instead of a printed book. Launch has been given the Dove ‘family approved’ seal for ages 12 and up and is a Mom’s Choice Award Gold Recipient. I don’t know if I would let every 12 year old read this book alone, as some of the subject matter is pretty intense, but I could see my very mature 10 year old reading this when she is older.

This book isn’t your typical novel, poetry or even devotional – it goes above and beyond that – I wouldn’t know how to classify it by genre. I do believe this is a must read for every Christian or those who are struggling in their faith as Acacia speaks to the heart of the hurting and the healed through her very personal style of writing, through Scripture and her brother’s poetry. I can’t tell you how many times as I was reading I was either inspired by her writing or a sin was brought to mind that I hadn’t confessed. These aren’t your scratch the surface, fluff that is so common today, this is conviction, based on things that happened in her life or in others and is something we can glean from.

Launch Out Into the Deep is a refreshing look at the Christian faith through the eyes of someone, who like most of us, made a decision for Christ at a young age but later realized it was because our parents desired it more than really yearning for Christ’s gift of Salvation. Our past is just that, our past and we can rise above it and when we find our freedom, our healing in Christ we can be whole whether our past is full of drug addiction, giving away your purity before marriage – Christ can and will forgive you and make you whole again in spirit, if only you ask. That is what is so powerful about this book, it really shows the reader the power of God’s love for each of us – it’s not the discussion questions or the writing itself, but it’s God’s love coming through the pages of the book.

I was also thankful in the reading that Acacia is very pro-abstinence, which even some Christians today don’t think is practical in light of today’s culture. However she also acknowledges that some just aren’t going to be abstinent, from her time in working as an adolescent counselor and does say that those who can’t abstain should use a condom or using birth control. While I know that it is the real world and some won’t abstain – using birth control is like giving permission and the health risks are dangerous as well as how it ‘performs’. Even in light of this part of the book, it is a definite read and it could easily be used for groups with the included discussion questions, or a parent/child devotional for those who are entering the chaotic world of adolescence – however I would not turn my 12 year old out with it on her own but I would use it as a discussion on how we approach things in life as Christians. Please visit the Launch website for more information, media links and much, much more.

"Launch Out Into The Deep" by Acacia Slaton Beumer, not only has a beautiful cover-art but also a deep insightful message for everyone. The Book is divided into 28 chapters which spans across 180 pages. Easy going language of the author makes this book a smooth read. Each chapter has at least one Poem (Each one is as good as the other) here's few verse lines from "Introduction" of the Book "Launch Out Into the Deep"

Fear not my child, for I am near.
I will wipe away every tear.

may not come when you want Him to,
but He’s the Lord Almighty, He knows what to do.

Look towards the horizon and you will see,
your path through the storm to your destiny.

Each Chapter in this book represents a Personal experience of author, with "The Supreme Power". Now this might sound pretty heavy but actually it's not, on the contrary almost each encounter/event is very practical and could happen with anyone. Each chapter teaches its readers a moral, which will help them to strengthen their will power, overcome depression, and will bring their life more close to spiritual enlightenment.

Acacia once said, "As we walk through this journey of life, we are going to have regrets and make countless errors. The issue is not the number of times we’ve made mistakes, or the number of times we’ve failed, but the lessons learned." So to learn few of these lessons without having to make a mistake you can read this book.

Although this book is heavily emphasized on Christian beliefs it will help anyone looking for answers. Let's look at a situation, in today’s world, where everyone specially teenagers are exposed to certain temptations, be it Alcohol, drugs, sex, greed anything.. this book will guide them to protect their virtue.

Few beautiful lines from the book which will emphasis this point:

Temptations come and temptations go;
if I resist the bait I will stand tall and grow.
If I fall prey to temptations then shame greets me;
an unwanted guest here to humiliate me.

Even the most prolific writer of all time Professor Issac Asimov once said, “The Saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom."

Critically, the book is well written and stick to the point of being a road for upliftment of human soul, but somewhere along the lines author forgot to consider non-Christian readers, which makes all preaching of "The Savior" little hard to get used to. But that doesn't mean this book isn't for non-Christian readers, because no matter what you believe or if you believe, everyone makes a mistake and this book will help them to learn from those mistakes

"only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing." - John Powell

So to conclude, this is a great book & as a reader I learned lot of good things from it. A sure contender for 4 Out of 5 stars.

If you’re looking for a book of beauty, encouragement, and hope, you have found it. Acacia Beumer and Aaron Slaton have brought in Launch Out into the Deep words to help guide you to listen to God’s voice and find the silver lining in any circumstance.

Launch Out into the Deep is a book anyone can relate to. It addresses the need for fulfillment, the challenges faced in life, and the void that can only be filled by the love and acceptance of Jesus. This is a Christian book that does more than just tell you what you should do. It makes it all personal.

Beumer and Slaton write chapters that are relevant and real. A reader can pick up any chapter and have it stand alone while reading them all together creates something even more powerful. Beumer, who writes the majority of the chapters, gives personal experiences to explain her statements and drive the idea home. She speaks from personal experience and not as one who has studied and is spouting ‘wise words’. Her words are from the heart and soul.

Slaton’s poetry is beautiful and compliments Beumer’s words perfectly. Each chapter has at least one poem accompanying it as well as quotes and sayings. If you are not one for poetry, I still suggest you read Slaton’s work but it is easy to skip over if you just cannot read the style. You will be missing out on something, though.

One thing I really love about the format and design of the book is that each chapter as a list of discussion questions that would work in an individual Bible study or in a group setting. They are not fluff questions. They are deep and designed to get the reader thinking beyond the surface of the issue. The questions get into the reader’s own heart.

If you are looking for a moving and inspirational Christian book this book, this is one you need to add to your to-read list. Beumer and Slaton have done an excellent job. This is one book I’ll find myself reading again as there is no way for me to get the full impact with just one reading.

Acacia Slaton Beumer, in Launch Out Into The Deep, writes a book rich with wisdom and Godly advice on different subjects that are pertinent to today. It’s written in an easy-to-read format. Most of the chapters give a story from her own experiences, a Biblical story, or someone she either knows or heard about that expands the meaning of each title of the chapter. She doesn’t expect this to be just another book to read–she has in-depth discussion questions that really make you think through what you learned.

For added encouragement, her brother, Aaron Slaton, has written many poems that relate to a specific Scripture referenced at the end of the chapters. A few of my favorites are: ‘Stand’ on page 77, ‘Keep Hope Alive’ on page 90, ‘One Word’ on page 160, and ‘Power in the Tongue’ on page 167. They speak volumes to my heart.

I found Acacia’s writings to be very helpful in my own life. All the ‘dog-ears’ are proof! She’s open, transparent and frank about the subjects she speaks on. She admits the pitfalls as well as giving praise to the Lord who can get you back in line with His desire for your life. She writes to bring enlightenment to those who are seeking direction and guidance in their lives, and relies heavily on the Word of God in her messages, as His Word is truth for our lives.

Some of her topics include:

Fame
The Secret Shame
Are you Ready?
God Has a Plan
Single, Lonely and Brokenhearted
Cries From the Heart
Time is Ticking Away
The Wide Road to Destruction
Leah: The Rejected One
Sex
And many more!

I disagree with her stand on alternative methods to control sexual diseases, surprise pregnancies, etc., because to me it lowers people to the level of animals who cannot choose right from wrong. She acknowledges that not everyone will agree with her method, but I needed to bring this aspect up for clarification on how I reviewed the book. But let it be known, Acacia is a strong advocate for abstinence!

So Launch Out Into the Deep with Acacia’s book and Aaron’s poetry for personal growth and a timeless commitment to love and truth.

Special thanks to Acacia Slaton Beumer for sending me a copy of her book through the FIRST Wild Card Tour to review her book. No monetary compensation was exchanged for my review.

The journey through daily life is not easy, especially in the 21st Century. This book may make that journey a little easier.

Daily life is supposed to be hard, with trials and challenges everywhere. Jesus never said, "Follow me, and you will have no problems or worries. I will take care of everything." How are you going to deal with grudges, resentment or really unpleasant people? There is nothing wrong with wanting to become rich or famous, until the point is reached where your moral upbringing and "soul" gets tossed in the garbage. Living water, through Jesus, is just as important as drinking water for survival.

Some people think that all that is needed to be a Christian is to obey the Ten Commandments, attend church on Sunday, or give to the poor. It's not that easy. A person has to confess to being a sinner, admit a real need for a savior and believe that Jesus is the Son of God. Having fewer, or "milder," sins than someone else does not make a person more righteous.

In today's society, it is very easy, especially for men, to get involved in sexual promiscuity. First, you need to confess your shortcomings to God and ask for His help to battle the temptation. Then, you need to avoid all types of pornographic images. The more you think about such things, the easier it is to go back to your old behavior. In this age of AIDS, many people still practice unsafe sex, convinced that it won't happen to them.

Life's trails and tribulations are necessary, though they may not seem necessary at the time, because they build character, strength and humility. Like the old saying says, "One day at a time." Don't worry about tomorrow until it arrives. To be a Christian, it is not always necessary to say "Hallelujah" or carry a Bible. Sometimes, the way you carry yourself and act around others will be enough to spread the "message."

This book is full of short essays and poems on various parts of daily life, and it is very much worth the reader's time. It is equally recommended for those who want a closer relationship with God, but don't know the route, and those who may need a spiritual jumpstart.

Convicted, Compassionate and Christian

Acacia L. Slaton is not ashamed to profess and proclaim the lordship of Jesus in her life. Nothing is more evident in her practical tome Launch Out Into the Deep. In this seminal work she covers every day topics and proposes the right Christian attitude in each situation. Keenly aware of the pitfalls that await believers, she isn’t afraid to describe their foibles and weaknesses as they encounter opportunities to lift each other up and instead tear each other down. Using poetry and the inspired word of God, she addresses topics such as the pursuit of fame, readiness for Christianity and being ‘single, lonely and broken hearted.’ Exposing her own life and those of unidentified friends, she is immediately able to relate to the masses.

The book itself is arranged as a reference based on common experiences a believer encounters. One can read the book in its entirety or skip around based on their spiritual need. While the writing is clear, there were some instances that the voice seemed less personal than the subject matter demanded. The tone is academic, but the content is too real for that elevation. The absence of characters allows the reader to insert themselves, but is also contributes to a sense of disjointment. You could start with any chapter and finish with any chapter. The random insertion of poetry provides a kind of song-like transition for weighty topics. The title challenge is evident throughout. One must leap with faith, knowing that the mercy of a loving God will carry you no matter what. I found myself refreshed and reinvigorated n the possibilities of faith and the assurance of an almighty being.

If a reader is not a Christian, or is somewhat hardened by life’s trials, this book will call out to you. If the reader is a believer and humble to their room for error, this book will call out to you. If the reader is simply looking for interesting words, will illustrative verse, this book will call out to you. Where you come from or where you’re going makes no difference, this book can call out to you!

Title: LAUNCH OUT INTO THE DEEP!
Author: Acacia Slaton Beumer
Poet: Aaron L. Slaton
Publisher: Create Space
April 2012
ISBN: 978-1468024524
Genre: Essays / Christian living

Judging by the cover of this book, I thought it was for young adults, tweeners, and maybe a science fiction novel. One should never judge a book by it’s cover.

This is in reality, in the author’s own words: Bold, daring, daring and life-changing truths, candid answers to real-life stories and scenarios.

LAUNCH OUT INTO THE DEEP! addresses these issues and more:

. is there hope for someone who is single and tired of waiting?
. how can I overcome sexual perversion?
. is there forgiveness for someone who knew the truth but committed sexual sin?
. my spouse is not a believer and I’m tired of the battle, should I call it quits?
. how can I learn to accept and love myself?
. and much much more.

The book is filled with the author’s perspectives on these subjects, biblical insights, thoughtful poetry, resource guides, and discussion questions at the end of each chapter.

LAUNCH OUT INTO THE DEEP! would be wonderful as a small group book. But the age limits are not really well defined. Some is geared for singles and teens, others are geared for married couples or women… so if you were to use it as a small group you’d need to be picky with the chapters and only choose the ones relevant to that group.

I’m not sure if I recommend this book or not. I’m torn. There are many positives. Also some negatives. But it is definitely something to consider to see if it meets your needs. Maybe it could be kept in a church library, or a Christian counselor, to help with specific issues. $9.99. 198 pages.

Launch Out Into the Deep is a religious novel that intends to inspire hope and answer difficult faith questions. It touches on the hypocrisy and pain spread by some who call themselves Christians, and overcoming those obstacles without hatred. The language used in the writing is very poetic, and there are poems included throughout. In fact, there are a TON of poems in this book, so you really have to enjoy reading poetry to get into the book (sadly, I'm of the personal opinion that poetry is great for writing but not for reading). It has group discussion questions for each chapter and would be a great church group reading. There was a part of the book that talked about the author's personal experiences with converting someone and with having a vision, and I think that while it worked for this book it is important to remember that not everyone has those nor are they needed in order to find faith. This book is a little too fundamentalist for my particular faith beliefs, but I think more conservative faith audiences will get a lot out of it. Any person of faith can benefit from exploring their faith and the faith of those around them and asking questions!
From a formatting standpoint, the original font of this eBook was way too tiny, so I ended up resizing it to Extra Extra Large just to be able to read it. Otherwise, I didn't find any glaring errors.
Overall, this is a solid read, but reads similar to a diary, which isn't really my style. However, if you like reading first-person experiences with faith, this book will be great for you!

Launch out into the deep is a great book filled with inspiration and biblical insight. It is a devotional book with exhortations, stories, poem and scriptural discussions that are all scripturally sound. The discussion questions helped to solidify each concept once they were explored.
The exhortations were very encouraging and very often hit home. The language is every easy to understand and because of that, this book is suitable for everyone, including new Christians and younger persons.
I especially liked the fact that the book explored several areas of life and the situations with which we are faced. The personal experiences of the author, offer a wealth of information that any individual can draw from and the poetry added a special touch.
I would recommend this book for any Christian who is struggling with personal issues or who just needs a bit of encouragement from time to time. Excerpts from this book can easily be added to one’s devotional time. I also recommend it to new Christians. The explanations and stories bring out biblical concepts with amazing clarity. The discussion questions help you not just to learn, but to understand and to apply them to your life. This is a book I will definitely go through again. I would even recommend it for teens as there are issues handled that most teens go through on a daily basis. Topics such as Singleness, God’s plan for your life, sex, redemption and salvation all make this book a real treasure trove.

Acacia Slaton had my attention from the opening verse of her book, Isaiah 43:2 - one of my favorite promises in the Bible. So many today are hurting, lost and living through unbelievably painful life circumstances. Ms. Slaton lays bare many of her own life situations, relating her bad choices, pain, confusion and spiritual battles. Ms. Slaton’s transparency, God-inspired wisdom and insight cuts to the heart of each topic and rapidly divides the Truth from Satan’s lies. The end result is a deeply compelling and heart-stirring book – Launch Out Into The Deep!
I especially liked the format of this book. The related stories, interwoven with original poetry, prophetic insight and thought-prompting discussion questions kept me engaged and encouraged me to more closely examine my own heart. Ms. Slaton’s writing style is conversational and relatable, easy to read and thoroughly engaging.
One thing to note, there are a myriad of scripture references interspersed throughout the book, but there are no links (in the e-book) to the scripture references once you get to the discussion section. I recommend keeping your Bible handy for easy reference, unless you want to flip back through the pages to find the scriptures.
Bottom line, Launch Out Into The Deep! is worth every minute of the time you are willing to invest in reading it and diligently seeking out the Truth that speaks into your own life circumstances.

"No one ever said life was easy. As long as we live on this earth, we will experience heartaches, disappointments, rejection, and betrayal. Be encouraged. You are not alone, for your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same suffering."

Launch Out Into The Deep is part self help book, part Christian guide, and part inspirational poetry. Each chapter explores one challenging aspect of life: the importance of life lessons, how fame can be deceptive, trying to fill that emptiness, and the dangers of casual sexual relations. Each of these sections explore the issue at hand, using examples from the author's own experiences (directly or indirectly through friends and members of her congregation). A biblical scripture and a "Words of the Wise" quote round off the chapter.

However, instead of moving directly to the next issue to be discussed, there is a series of poems following the theme of that particular chapter. These pieces get to the heart of the matter breaking through barriers and reiterating the concepts in a way that text alone can't quite accomplish. I think that this aspect adds a special appeal to this book while inspiring and resonating with the reader in ways that only poetry can.

Direct from the heart guidance on the way forward in a corrupt world.

The author takes the bull by the horns, and recognizes first the corrupt, dismaying shape that today’s world is in. But this is not primarily a book diagnosing the problem. That is, in the final analysis, all too obvious and easy.

Instead this is a book forged from experience and suggesting a new and different path forward, one based on expanding our horizons from narrow self-interest to taking action along with others to create positive change, to forge a new world with equality and opportunity for everyone, and a generous spirit and ethos.

More importantly, unlike some books of this nature, this is not a stringing together of self-evident clichés without concrete suggestions. Instead, it is full of valuable lessons drawn from life that younger and more mature readers alike will feel that they have gained something from. This is a great book to read for the holidays, or to give someone as a holiday gift.

Spiritually Awakening

We all have perceptions of how "Christians" are suppose to walk the walk. We are quick to judge when they fall short of the glory. What we fail to realize is Christians make mistakes too. They are human.

Acacia Slaton Beumer, the author of “Launch Out Into the Deep,” has walked the walked. It wasn't always easy. She includes personal accounts to demonstrate the battle.

I really enjoyed “Launch Out Into the Deep.” Beumer includes biblical stories and personal situations to encourage one to give their spiritual being an awakening. The chapters are written for anyone to understand. One thing I loved was how each chapter ended with scripture, words of wisdom and discussion questions. The discussion questions allow you to reflect and apply teachings to your life. This is definitely one I would recommend.

It is a very spiritual book with many uplifting messages and poems that advise us to look to God for the answers we seek. I agreed with some points the author made, but some I didn't agree with. For example, I do not feel like blaming music, books, or the media for how someone behaves is the right thing to do. I may have misunderstood this, but I feel like God or a higher being gives us the choice to make decisions in our life. So try drugs or rob someone and then say," well this rap song I was listening to made me do it" is very immature. And for anyone to agree with them is not being responsible in the choice you make, albeit, good or bad.
All in all, though, this is a great book for study groups and definitely for young people. I enjoyed the study questions at the end of each chapter and are considering giving this book as gift to a friend of mine.

"Launch Out Into the Deep" is heartfelt book of devotions by a very talented young writer and counselor, Acacia Beumer. As I read this book, I felt there were parts of it that seemed almost written for me. Amazing! Apparently Ms. Beumer has a gift of discernment that transcends into her writing career. If you are feeling lonely, discouraged, regretful or even rebellious, please read this book. It will truly touch your soul. "Launch Out Into the Deep" also includes poetry and reflections from Ms. Beumer's brother, Aaron Slaton, another talented writer. I am looking forward to reading future works by these authors! Please Note: I reviewed this book as part of the Reader's Spoils rewards program, but I was not required to write a favorable review.

To put it simply, this book is not a good one and the author has a terrible attitude about it.

I reviewed this book honestly and gave the author insight into high points and low points, the high point being the technical ability in that there aren't too many grammatical errors. The low point was the absolute lack of research anywhere in the book. This was written in no time flat and that comes across very clearly. The author claims that "God wrote the book through me" which is kind of a cute thing to say, but I seriously doubt that actually happened. If God had written the book, there would have been facts in it instead of 130 pages of nonsensical gibberish separated by poems and discussion questions lifted from a Sunday school book.

This book, filled with short and long devotionals, will encourage you to trust in the Lord. There are many books that you could read that point you to the Lord as the answer to your problems but this particular book uses day to day circumstances and Biblical examples to remind you of all the Lord can do.

There are relevant quotes that follow each devotional. There is ample scripture to support the principles discussed. The poetry that is scattered throughout is meaningful and helpful.

This book is easy to read and understand and worth your time.

I was given this book by http://www.christianreviewofbooks.com/ to review.

This book was deep! It really brought a positive religious message to secular situations. Moreover, the biggest message I got concerned controlling yourself and understanding that situations happen for a reason. Things may not always be positive, but they can teach you a valuable lesson about what's most important. It relayed a spiritual message in a logical way. I would recommend this book to someone who is looking for spiritual answers and can't them from the Bible due to ambiguity. I would love to share this with my future children in conjunction with the Chicken Soup series and the Bible.

Launch into the deep is not my usual kind of book. On the whole I enjoy mysteries and suspense. Every now and then I do like to branch out and read other material. This is one of the times I am very happy I did. The poetry in this book is heartfelt and real as well as being amazingly written. I had my wife read this book after I did and she plans to reread it soon. It is not often that you find an author who is as young as Acacia Slaton Beumer and her brother Aaron Slaton who has such an in-depth and firm grasp on life. A great read for someone who wants to be spiritually touched.

I was one of those people who gave up on the idea that God can help me. After reading Launch Out Into The Deep, my faith has been restored. It uses God’s words and stories from the bible to guide us through problems that are so prevalent today. It showed me that regardless of our current state, we can overcome all obstacles that come our way if we choose to take a righteous path. I have a better understanding of things that I can do to change my situation and attitude towards life. Readers of all ages will gain hope and inspiration from the stories and poems shared in this book.

This would also be a good book for personal study if you have a mature teen who can independently reflect and process these ideas. Because of the issues presented in the book, I think this would be best for ages 14+. I would definitely recommend that parents read the book first before sharing it with your kids, so that you are prepared for the issues that are presented.

I received a copy of this book to review. These opinions are 100% mine.

I do not know where to begin. There were so many things I loved about this book. The poems were so real and touching. They discussed real life issues that we all face at one point in our life. I think this would be a great gift to anyone that loves poetry or great reading or may be in need of some uplifting. I will be picking up more books by this author. Get your copy today!

Launch Out Into The Deep by Acacia Beumer truly touched my spirit. I was moved to tears reading about her actual encounters with others. Some were devastatingly sad and others made me wonder in awe at how God does his will through others. The book also features poetry by Beumer's brother, Aaron Slaton. Slaton is indeed a gifted poet. I look forward to reading more from this sibling duo.

The book has a raw, real tone. Personal experience essays are woven with verses and poetry to create an inspiring book. I'm very glad I was able to review this book, as it spoke to me. Not everyone will get the same message - it's one of those books that can reach anyone in any circumstance.

Disclosure: I did receive a copy of this e-book for free, but the opinions are my own.
