It is intended to be a companion to The American Lineman as it recognizes and focuses on the efforts, accomplishments, and challenges faced by linemen during the electrification of the San Francisco Bay Area. With over 200 photos and illustrations, Spanning the Strait provides a complete history of another record-breaking project built largely by linemen. About the author

Alan Drew is the author of the critically acclaimed Detective Benjamin Wade series of psychological thrillers, THE RECRUIT (2022) and SHADOW MAN (2017). His debut novel, GARDENS OF WATER (2008), has been translated into ten languages and published in nearly two-dozen countries. He is a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where he was awarded a Teaching/Writing Fellowship. An Associate Professor of English at Villanova University where he directs the creative writing program, he lives near Philadelphia with his wife and two children.
