The Naked Truth...

After eight Seasons in London, Lady Jane Parker-Roth is ready to quit the dull search for a husband in favor of more exciting pursuits. So when she encounters an intruder in her host's townhouse, she's not about to let the scoundrel escape. Until she discovers she's wrestling a viscount-Edmund Smyth, the one noble she wouldn't mind meeting in the dark. And when their struggle shatters a randy statue of the god Pan, even more mischief ensues...

Edmund was indeed searching for evidence of a scandal, but the shocking clues inside the nude statue are far from what he expected. The same can be said of Jane, who shows a talent for interfering in his affairs. And as his quest becomes more than a little improper, he finds the impetuous Lady has a talent for that as well...

Sally MacKenzie decided to become a writer in grade school when she read one of her stories to the class. Her classmates laughed and she was hooked. She sat down immediately to pen her first novel.

Well, not exactly.

The hooked part is right--cursed might be a better description--but the sitting down and writing part came later. Much later.

Sally eventually went on to college, majoring in English, and, upon graduation, did what many English majors do--she went to law school. But she still couldn’t shake her dream of writing fiction. Midway through law school, she faced the fact that she really did not want to be a lawyer. She took a permanent leave of absence, came home to the Washington, D.C. area, and sat down to type her first novel.

Well, not exactly.

She did come home and write, but mostly she wrote regulations for the United States government’s school nutrition programs. (Ketchup as a vegetable, anyone?) When her law school sweetheart graduated, he moved to D.C. and they got married. A couple years later, the first of their four sons was born, and Sally “retired” to manage their family. She wrote a story or two and some picture book texts, all now stored away in a filing cabinet, but she spent most of her energies on baby tending which rapidly evolved into carpool driving. She became an extremely skilled scheduler, getting all four boys to soccer, basketball, baseball, track, swimming, piano, scouts, and birthday parties without ever losing one. (Okay, she did lose the youngest for a few minutes, but she found him before he’d toddled into the parking lot.) And she did more writing--school newsletters, auction programs, class plays, swim league guidance, and the acclaimed annual MacKenzie family newsletter--but no fiction.

Finally, the boys started driving (Eek!) and leaving for college. The nest was emptying and she wasn't getting any younger. The time had come to chase the dream or let it go for good, so she sat down at the computer and wrote. And rewrote. And rewrote again until she had a polished manuscript. She joined the Romance Writers of America, and when the plea went out for Regency manuscripts for the 2004 Golden Heart contest, she sent in The Naked Duke. The stars aligned. She made the final round, and one of the judging editors liked the manuscript and offered to buy it.

Yee haw!!

When not writing or obsessing over the various mysteries of book promotion, Sally can be found at the gym working hard to age gracefully, at the pool on the SLOW side of the Masters swim practice, or at one meeting or another volunteering at the helm of the summer swim league.

Here's Sally with her family--she's 5 ft. 8 in. tall, but she's short in this crowd.

3'5 Estrellas.

Edmund Smyth, Viscount Motton is close to going mad. His bevy of aunts has come to stay with him, including his Aunt Winifred who has a pet parrot that won't behave. If that isn’t bad enough, he has to break into the estate of the late Clarence Widmore and find a mysterious sketch of French spies drawn by the deceased artist. Motton has to keep a close watch at those around him, because any member of the Ton could possibly by the elusive killer who is only known as "Satan". But Motton gets more than he bargains for when he is caught in Widmore's library by the spinster, Lady Jane Parker-Roth.

Lady Jane is in London for her eighth season, and at the ripe old age of twenty-four she is comfortable with her spinster state. Jane and her mother are renting Widmore's penthouse and when she goes into the library to grab another novel to read, she is hauled up against a male chest and kissed senseless. She is giddy over this because the man in question is one she has admired from afar. Motton has no choice but to tell Jane about his mission. She is more than willing to help him. Things become even more complicated when they figure out that there are many incriminating papers hidden in various statues of Pan all over London. And those papers have been secreted away in a very specific part of the statue, which is more phallic in nature.

Motton puts his foot down and refuses Jane's help, but seeing as she is used to being ordered around from her older brother, she has years of practice in getting around any obstacle that may come her way. Motton has no choice but to keep a watchful eye on Jane and soon she is joining him on his mission with very surprising results. He begins to see Jane in a different light, where he wouldn’t mind kissing her again and welcomes those thoughts of marriage with the plucky, well bred you woman. But he must find out who Satan is, why Widmore drew so many shocking and naughty pictures of the member of the ton, and keep Jane safe while trying to keep his passions in check whenever he is around her.

Sally MacKenzie has written another delightful and funny book in her Naked series with The Naked Viscount. Sally has a such knack at writing such endearing characters. Readers will surely chuckle more than once over Motton's thoughts and actions regarding Jane. The man is smitten with Jane the moment he kisses her in a darkened library and is confounded over his feelings to the point where he can't think of anything else but seducing her. The banter and dialogue back and forth between Motton and Jane is close to slapstick, although there is an issue of too much head jumping and change in the point of view between the two that occurs many times throughout the story. This may lead to some confusion for the some.

The drama is a bit on the ridiculous side, and the way Jane channels her own investigation techniques will have you in stitches. Jane has a bad habit of grabbing specific parts of the statue Pan's anatomy to find what she wants. Every time she does, it drives Motton batty because he wishes he was on the receiving end of her touch.

The Naked Viscount is a light fun historical romance with some outlandish action on the parts of the main characters. But in all, this latest by Sally is one amusing read.

One thing Ms. Mackenzie says about her books is that they can be read out of order (seeing as she writes them out of order). I am a testament to that. I started with The Naked Gentleman, then The Naked Baron, followed by Marquis, Earl, Laird -- and finally this book, The Naked Viscount. I still haven't read the first (Duke) but, seeing as it recently came back into print, I now have it on my shelf (yay!) and it is on my TBR list. But back to the book I was talking about.

Heretofore, my favorite book of the series (and the one I was sure to bring with me when I moved north) was The Naked Marquis. The heroine in this book is both brown-haired and bespectacled.... so I wonder where my affinity for it came from :)

I have to say (forgive the rambling) that I now have a new favorite. Yessirree. The Naked Viscount is a terrific book for three very important reasons:

1) This book contained one romance. You're probably scratching your head and wondering why I would say something like this, but in Sally Mackenzie's books, I've become used to seeing side romances from secondary characters. This isn't a bad thing -- far from it! -- but it means that the ratio of book length : primary romance is that much greater, and therefore that much more satisfying. In truth, I was mystified by Motton and Jane and I'm glad they were selfish and stole the spotlight for this book. Secondary romances weren't needed, although I found that in some of her other books, particularly in The Naked Baron, I enjoyed the happily ever afters included for the secondary characters.

But back to my review with...

2) Motton is a to-die-for hero. Honestly. He has replaced all other regency heroes in my mind. He's the perfect combination of scarred, rakish, and protective. Every encounter with the heroine made me read on. I put the book down only reluctantly.

And that was partly due to:

3) I laughed from beginning to end. This lighthearted romance was just what I needed to brighten my day -- and I highly suggest you try it out if you haven't already. I loved the snappy dialogue and the situations the pair managed to get themselves into. Well, to start, they were running all over London trying to find the hollowed-out penises of a bunch of statues because of a paper hidden inside each one. Hilarious!

Let me just say that this is a MUST-READ book. I don't think I'd even give up my copy for long enough to lend to my mom. Sorry, Mom. I'll buy you a copy. It's just that good.

That's right. I'm giving a trash novel 4 stars. I really liked it. It surprised me, too.

I usually love the idea of trash novels so much more than the actuality of them. I read them (and I'm pretty sure I'll never stop reading them) but they piss me off. The characters are recycled bullshit, the plots are ridiculous and so on.

This one didn't piss me off. At all. In fact, while I didn't literally laugh out loud, it did make me smile. There was a parrot that talked like a pirate and mysterious orgies. It was perfectly absurd. And while it was set Romance Novel era England, it felt contemporary.

buku ini bagus en lumayan hot....walo yg hot2 nya sebatas pikiran nya edmund si lord motton :p
Bener2 lust banget ngeliat si janey
Kasusnya agak aneh sih...nyelidiki klub orgy para bangsawan kelas atas....mesti mencari potongan2 lukisan yg tersembunyi di beng2 nya patung pan :p

Trus dibanding serial naked lainnya, ini paling banyak mengumbar kata cock dan pen*s huahaha.....
Kayaknya vulgar tapi enggak juga ah :-)

dan gw suka banget ternyata sama buku ini...beda sama terjemahannya (again elex...terjemahannya gak okeeeh) baca eng nya berasa banget lucu nya dan frustasi nya si edmund pengen bawa jane si virgin ke tempat tidur...

belom lagi di bagian belakang pas mereka menyusup kepesta orgy..jane yg hampir ketangkap musuh keminum cairan aprodisiak yg bikin dia jadi horny berat..akhirnya kasa-kusuk di kereta kuda selama 4 ronde sama edmund...edmund nya juga mau banget sih :p
walo abis gitu si jane nya rada sungkan...

berhubung obatnya kuat banget ...edmund buru2 ngangkat jane ke pundak nya trus mereka kabur cari tempat buat (again) memuaskan jane yg kena pengaruh obat...

dibanding serial naked lainnya ini yg paling hot kayaknya....
i do really enjoy this book ...

This is my first book by this author, and I didn't realize this was actually the fifth book in her series but I was able to follow along without a problem. I really enjoyed this one, it was a nice combination of historical romance and lighthearted comedy.

The storyline was pretty absurd but it was too funny to find fault with it. Edmund is a viscount and was asked by an acquaintance to look into find a sketch done by a recently deceased man by the name of Wildmore. When Edmund (Viscount Motton) breaks into Wildmore's residence, he runs into Miss Jane Parker-Roth and the two engage in a rather heated encounter. Parker threatens to tell people about the embrace unless he lets her help look for the sketch. The two end up figuring out that the sketch is not what they've been assuming all along, but rather it is a detailed picture of some of the Ton engaged in an orgy and the pictures are stored away in rather interesting places.

Motton and Jane together were explosive, they had a fantastic relationship and it was funny to watch the two of them try to get around their relatives. I love that Jane Parker wasn't inhibited as normal hr female characters are. I think that's what made this book so funny and entertaining. Things happened that don't normally in historical books. I will definitely be checking out the rest of the books in this series.

One more very funny read by Sally MacKenzie. Here too the gathering of uncommon personalities brings lot of fun and smiles.
I love that the author’s heroes did not turned despite their handsomeness in rogues, rakes, whoring their way in life with their good look.
Edmund, Viscount Motton is a nice man, he is the kind to go to great acts to help others and more to protect them.
He has an incredible family with his five aunts from his father’s side, each with its own peculiarity. Says Aunts who are on a mission, to find him a wife.
Right at the same time he collided with Jane, his friends sister, in a dark room and dreamed to do a lot of rather naughty things with her.
And now this lovely lady felt compiled to help him find a mysterious drawing ad find out who is hiding behind the elusive nickname of Satan.
As I have already said, I’m not a big fan of men who only think with their downward head but Sally MacKenzie has a knack with this special trope, she made me laugh with Edmund inner battles in arguing with his two brains.
Jane Parker-Roth has observed from afar Edmund without ever being noticed, so when eight years later she finds herself in his embrace with a way to get to know him, she won’t give up. Ensue a battle of wits, he to protect her from the darkness lurking outside, she to be part of an adventure as she thinks it is one.
I loved Jane, she might be one of the sheltered young woman of the ton, whose is facing a life as a spinster at her great age of four and twenty but she has a sharp mind with a refreshing view of the London society.

“Neither of the women had yet even blinked at Jane. Had she vanished? She looked down. She could still see herself. She reached out to brush one of the palm fronds. It moved. So she hadn’t turned to vapor and disappeared.”

After years of being invisible, she is now noticed because she is associated to Edmund.

It was a fun read with plenty of actions, crazy family moments and steamy encounters.

Widmore. Rumah Widmore di London sementara waktu ditinggali keluarga Parker-Roth selama season berlangsung.

Ketika sedang memeriksa perpustakaan Widmore, Edmund dipergoki Jane Parker-Roth.

I was taken by SM's lovely style, and her command of the language - far beyond many popular writers in many genres. And, her charming characters, who came to life! I may be hooked on her naked-nobility series! Its very clear that SM's paid attention, and taken notes during and inbetween relationships, and had some excellent male informants!

The Naked Viscount by Sally MacKenzie
Historical Romance – June 1, 2010
4 ½ Stars

The Naked Viscount is the story of Miss Jane Parker-Roth. Jane is stuck in London , to ‘catch’ herself a prized husband. But after 8 seasons without success she would much rather stay home with a good book. Searching the boring London scene for prospects is extremely dull work. But to her surprise she encounters an intruder in her family’s rented townhouse. One who captures her attention and her devout interest! The intruder turns out to be the infamous Edmund Smyth, Viscount Motton. He is a close friend of her brother's. And a man she has secretly admired from afar. Jane quickly finds herself embroiled in mischief and trouble after discovering Viscount Motton’s true motive for being in her townhouse. He is searching for a picture that will uncover a criminal mastermind. Soon the 2 are working together to get to the bottom of this mystery, while trying to keep the enemy from getting there first.

Sally MacKenzie does a fantastic job of creating a pleasing story with a wonderful mix of romance and mystery. I found the main characters’ hunt to find the picture fun and exciting. The mystery kept me guessing until the very end. The two main characters are a joy to read and each are both appealing and compelling in their own right. But I really enjoyed them the most together! I also thought the secondary characters brought cheerfulness and humor to the story and wouldn’t mind knowing more about them.

The Naked Viscount is a fantastic book. If you like a solid romance story with an intriguing story this is the perfect book for you! I found it the perfect mix of romance and intrigue. The Naked Viscount is amazing book that you won’t be able to put down until the very end.

Over all, gw suka baca buku ini, byk kejadian lucu yg mewarnai jln cerita buku ini. Diakhir bab, jadi keinget buku JL - Secret fire krn ada kejadian yg berhub dgn obat perangsang. Lucu jg ngebaca reaksi si tokoh cowo pas nyadar tokoh cwnya ga sengaja minum tuh "ramuan iblis", antara kaget, bgg n seneng. Kekekeke.... dasar laki, walo bgg n kaget tetep ja doyan klo d disodorin cw ;D.

A must read, the flow of the story thrills me that made me want to know what happened next. for edmund and jane to solve the mystery of a torn drawing they have to find all the pieces at a most embarassing piece for an unmarried woman. as they get each pieces of torned drawings that is when edmund cannot resist jane's charm. jane have been in love with edmund for the past seven seasons of her life and through the drawing she is being held by edmund in an unexpected display of affectation meant only for engaged or married woman. i so loved their bantering and how jane is being persistent that she be included for the hunt of the missing drawing. a very good story and would love to read mored of the naked series.

When Jane Parker-Roth apprehends her neighbor breaking into the study she doesn't expect it to lead to kisses and the beginning of an intriguing mystery. Edmund, Lord Motton's aunts have all moved in to his house for the season to find him a wife and on top of that he is on the verge of discovering the man behind a salacious hell-fire club but uncomfortably he needs Jane's help.

I really enjoyed the hilarious situations these two got into and their attraction was sweet and fiery at the same time. More laughs from Sally MacKenzie's Naked series which is why I loved it in the first place.

I honestly have no idea what's going on at my library. They bundled all of these books together but in a seemingly random order. It's not sorted by publication date, or order in the series, or the alphabet. I'm terribly confused.

This was unexpected for the series, with the danger and intrigue around every corner. I'm a bit thrown by the complete lack of exposition vis a vis Edmund's history of fighting the London underworld (??) but for all I know that was explained in depth in a previous book that I'll read later in this bundle. Good job, DC Public Library!

Jane is a young lady who is well past her use-by date. She has not found any courting man to be someone who is interesting to her. Most of her life, she has had a school girl crush on Edmund who is best friend to one of her brothers.

Edmund is a young man who has a family history which makes him not the least bit interested in marrying anyone. He has been asked to search for some information in the home next door to his own. Right now, the home is occupied by Jane and her mother. He knows them and believes he can slip into the house, find the document and slip back out in the middle of a night.

Unfortunately, Jane enters the study to find a book. The two of them have a very personal encounter in the dark. Edmund is shocked when he realizes that Jane has a very feminine body. Jane is shocked to realize that the personal encounter provides her with all sorts of ideas about what could possibly come next.

The most important story is about Jane, Edmund and their various family members. Edmund’s aunts and Jane’s mother are all women who are filled with surprises. And all of them are devoted to the idea of getting Jane and Edmund married to one another.

The secondary story is about the search for pornographic drawings which show some of the most well known leaders of society in revealing situations. All of it is in order to find a master criminal known as Satan.

The secondary story was more than I cared to know. At times, it seemed to just throw in some really disgusting scenes with not much purpose.

I enjoy a good mystery, but the settings of this area of the mystery was over the top to me. But, the mystery creates some really entertaining moments.

Jane and Edmund are very funny characters. Edmund wants to be an honorable man, but at times his inner thoughts give him away. He and his sexual desires carry on quite interesting imaginary conversations. Jane is intelligent, curious, funny and ready for an adventure. She does not want to die a virgin. And Edmund is the man to help her out, whether he thinks it is a good idea or not.

Edmund is not impervious to Jane so after his inner arguments, surrender is inevitable.

Ms MacKenzie writes very funny books. This is no exception.

I loved the fact that the aunts were never subtle about what they wanted. I loved the fact that they were all eccentric individuals who were never in doubt of who they are. I loved the fact that no matter how stressed they made Edmund, he loved them and he knew they loved him.

Edmund is a good guy. And Jane is very fortunate that he is such a good guy.

I liked this book. I could have done with out some of the more prurient details. But, they were details to show how evil the master criminal truly was.

I always enjoy Ms MacKenzie’s stories. She has a wonderful way of creating characters who make you laugh along with them.

There is a happily ever after and it could not happen to 2 nicer people.

A mystery with a romance, a lot of fun.

Jane Parker-Roth is done with the search for a husband as the whole process has become quite dull. What isn't dull is finding an intruder in her host's study in the middle of the night and Jane doesn't plan to let the man escape. However, what she doesn't know is that said intruder is Edmund Smyth, the viscount she admired from her very first season but he showed no interest in her at the time, but given that he's kissing her is showing those signs now. Edmund didn't expect to be found searching for clues to solve the biggest mystery in London and he didn't expect the one to find him to the be the beautiful and sensual sister of his close friend. He knows that he shouldn't but finds that he cannot push her out of the search as they scour London for clues while avoiding dangerous situations and falling in love.

This was a fun book, but I felt that there was a few things missing. We are introduced to Edmund in the second book of the series and he didn't come off as a young adventurer at the time, but as an older scholarly type. Other than that, the rest of the story was a lot of fun.

Edmund is hilarious in his way of trying to avoid talking about his personal life and the strange and crazy situations he and Jane end up in. I also love that Jane is so ready for adventure that she jumps right in without thinking a lot of the time and that helps them to find more clues to the puzzle they are trying to solve.

I also liked how there was an air of mystery going on, like something dangerous could happen at any second. Although most of the other books in this series focused primarily on smaller issues in the background that mostly affected only a few people, this book had a mystery that could possibly affect all of London, which was a nice switch.

Overall, this book was fun. I would for sure read it again.

Another book with a pet parrot. We'll get to that in a minute.

There was some entertaining stuff here but the book was way too long. Half of it was a repetitive "I want to have sex with her! But I can't she's an innocent and I'm friends with her brothers!" with descriptions of frustrated desires and throbbing body parts and half of it was "to hell with that, we are having sex! over and over and over!" with descriptions of reckless behavior and throbbing body parts. (At one point they are literally in a fight for their lives and he pauses to kiss her neck. Suuuure, that's totally believable and not at all idiotic.)

On to the parrot. It's funny how African Grey Parrots are usually described as large (as this one is) when in fact African Greys are medium sized parrots. Authors seem to think they are the size of macaws of cockatoos.

So, this parrot is entirely unbelievable. He says things that are directly related to situations, in full sentences. "Like "Obvious. Obvious. Clear as the nose on my face." "Aw, don't be nasty, mate." "Theo likes treats." "In the family way. In an interesting condition. Breeding."

It's also funny that this parrot says all sorts of pirate-y things because - I mean, really? So the hero's aunt says things like "matey" and "Scurvy dog" to her parrot, often enough for him to repeat them? Unlikely. Parrots don't come out of the shell talking like pirates. (Especially not AFRICAN parrots.)

If you are only there for the descriptive sex you may enjoy this book. I did like that the hero has five aunts.

This had its moments. The plot involves a shadowy secret society and mysterious clues that our hero and heroine rush around London to find before danger finds them. Edmund and Jane are a likable couple. But like several of the previous books, the heroine always seems to be in peril of sexual violence from an over-the-top evil villain (who, in this case, has the unsubtle moniker of Satan).

Also, I don’t know if Mackenzie has spent any time with actual talking birds, but the irritating parrot Theo seems to be capable of actual thought and conversation instead of mimicking his owners. The monkey is annoying, too, but thankfully we don’t see much of him this time.

Sally Maackenzie's books all read the same - endearing elderly female relatives, almost slapstick comedy and absurdity, humorous and not taking themselves too seriously. Nice heros and heroines with lots of lusty thoughts.

in this one, Jane and Edmund gonscampering across London on a mysterious quest to find and put together pieces of a drawing that have been hidden inside various sculptures. inside the penis to be precise. add in a mysterious Hellfire like cult and a villian of the underworld dubbed Satan....

Ridiculous but somehow still enjoyable.

This one features John’s sister, Jane Parker-Roth, and Edmund Smyth, Viscount Motton. (In The Naked Gentleman, Jane gives birth to their first child.) Edmund and Jane become involved in a search for the leaders of a “hellfire” club. Jane is an older heroine and is outspoken and very frank. Their escapades include searching for statues of the god Pan with drawings hidden inside removable erect penises - slapstick funny rather than witty, but it was what I was in the mood for.

3 dari 5 😍
cerita ini konyol dan menegangkan.
konyol karena cekcok antara Edmund-Jane yg sangat unik. mereka berdebat tapi ujung2nya malah "bersilat lidah" beneran.
menegangkan ya krn petualangan mereka yg ga jauh2 dari patung Pan yg terlalu "bersemangat" itu.
secara keseluruhan, cerita ini bagus. memecahkan misteri tanpa terlihat serius kayak detektif beneran. analisanya ringan. petunjuk banyak betebaran. terutama setiap kemunculan tokoh baru

I don't really know how to rate this book. I had a jolly good time reading it but it was also very cringe-y and not well written. I kinda felt like I was reading a novel length smut fanfic! There were also some possible homophobic moments though I don't think it was the author being insensitive but the characters... I really don't know what to make of this book or how to review it. It's a sexy, smutty romp that's perfect for turning your brain off!

Nothing special, but not really bad either. The writing is good but the story and characters kind of boring. I missed some emotional impact, some drama, some highlights. The love story was too much based on lust and not really on emotional connection and love. Overall a novel that is easily forgotten.

Jane & Edmund

Another cute installment in this series. With all the Aunts, animals, and antics you could want.

I enjoyed this story, but wished the 2nd time the hero got to experience the aphrodisiac instead of the heroine twice. It would have balanced the scales a bit and could have been used to make her feel less self-conscious.

Still, a silly, cute, fun read.
