What a great ending to this fun series! I listened to the whole series. There were some surprising twists and a lot of loose ends were tied up. Definitely recommend this series for tweens and teens! Lot’s of good lessons learned and also covers a time in history that I haven’t learned a whole lot about.
A fantastic ending to a compelling series! In fact, I think this one might be the best of the trilogy. With the third generation of kids, we again experience Berlin with the Wall still up, diving the city into two.
It is now 1989. Riots are breaking out more frequently. President Reagan's beseeching words ring continually in everyone's ears.
Smuggler's Treasure has a good deal of historical details, political intrigue, and... the story is complete with a family secret to boot (making reading to be fun, educational, and mysterious!).
13-year-old Liesl has a school paper to write on the Wall, and doesn't want hers to sounds just like all the other students' papers. She needs a personal story, and finds one closer to home than she thought possible. As it turns out, her family has been duped for two generations, and she takes it upon herself to reunite the missing pieces of her family -- against the backdrop of an important moment in German history.
I really enjoyed reading this exciting story. It gives an idea of what life would have been like behind the Berlin Wall. There are some who want to dig a tunnel out to escape to the other side. Read along as they try to figure out a solution to problems as they arise.
Definitely my favorite of the series and made the whole series worth more than they were already. It was sooo nice to see all the pieces coming together, and wooow...
The third book in the series was as good as the first and second. This book brought the story to a conclusion and didn't leave you waiting to see what happened. Very good series.
