Wolverine is infected! When nanotech machinery threatens to separate the adamantium from Wolverine’s cells, how will the mutant survive? From the height of Woverine's popularity in the 90's is this stand-alone graphic novel illustrated by Bill Sienkiewicz.
I'm quite sure I picked this up for Bill Sienkiewicz's art. I'm pretty sure this was around the height of Wolverine's popularity, and I was picking up just about everything that came out for him.
The art isn't the more restrained and refined work that you sometimes see from Bill. It's more along the lines of Elektra: Assassin (although not painted) as opposed to say New Mutants. Admittedly, it's a little hard to follow the panel to panel progression. It's almost as if Chichester had a basic plot, let Bill run loose and filled in the dialogue to try and match.
As far as the plot, the basic premise isn't bad: someone injects nanites into Wolverine which proceed to start removing the adamantium. This gives Bill a chance to draw some crazy things on Logan. However, this being a one-shot, the villain (who is new) doesn't have much depth. There's only one real twist in the story, and the ending is wrapped up very quickly.
It's different for sure, but also felt like it missed the mark.
Art in this comic book is original and crazy. Without a doubt it's the strongest part of Inner Fury (although it's not for everyone) Also there is one LSD like mindfuck scene which was just plain awesome. :D I like that kind of stuff...
Story was all over the place, though. It was kinda hard to follow and with a lot of pointless info dumps and random scenes.
But I guess art is the most important part in this so I found it enjoyable and give it a pass!
I hate giving bad reviews. It makes me feel like I've wasted my time. But this is just awful. It's difficult to follow and it comes across as though the creators were trying to be avant-garde just for the sake of it. I had to force myself to finish reading this just so I could say how much I hated it. I usually love Bill Sienkiewicz's art, but this contained none of his usual storytelling skill. It's bad. It's really bad. Avoid it.
It's nice when an over-exposed character like Wolverine (or Batman or Spider-Man) get a chance to get an non-traditional story told with them. Something that's a little more literary or a little more avant garde.
It rarely happens with these corporate IPs, alas. But hey! Today, I found copies of Wolverine: Inner Fury, Wolverine: Killing and Batman: Ego!
Like porn, the plot is there because it's expected to be there, but everyone's there for the visuals. It's not really written in a way that will keep up with the illustration being done. Sadly, it's a case of a mismatched artist and writer.
Sorry, unreadable! Can't anyone fill Miller's shoes, by immitating terribly the Elektra:Assassin masterpiece! Even if he is blessed with the same great artist to collaborate with...!
