This is the best book I've read about Chopin yet.
It was very easy to read, but had a lot of historical information and quite a bit about his music, which was nice. It wasn't full of musical terms and big words like some music books that I've read- which are okay, but not what I want sometimes. I've read this book three times now and I really love it.
Chopin was an amazing guy, not only as a composer, but as a musician and public figure. He was somewhat mysterious and this book does a good job of describing that and showing the reader his personal life. The chapters are based off time periods in his life, like the years he spent travelling and the years he lived with George Sand.
It has some details that make it unsuitable for kids to read, but there's nothing profane or anything like that.
It has some nice paintings of him too, including some sketches that I've never seen before. As an artist, I really appreciated that :)
The writer did a great job of making the story flow smoothly and kept me reading right to the tragic end of Chopin's sadly short life.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants to get the big picture of Chopin's life and who isn't concerned about knowing every detail. Easy read and really enjoyed it!

A concise, conversational, and anecdotal overview of the life of Chopin that makes for an excellent taster on the composer's life. That said, because of its short length, it does start to feel like an endless sequel of travel-compose-socialize, over and over...punctuated by arguments and moodiness. It will be interesting to read a longer, more detailed biography and see what gems and revelations might have been left out of this short work. The 2 CDs of Chopin's music that come with the book make for a very pleasant accompaniment.

Accessible and engaging; a very nice introduction to his biography and music. The selections on the CD are nicely chosen.
