The artwork is great, the characters are well set, and the story about the agent and the stubborn, overbearing newbie model under his care is very, very sexy and interesting. I wonder what will happen next!
I know there will surely be a love triangle, but I don't mind! Not when things are going like this:
the young model: 'Me and this other guy, who is better?'
I read an English scanlation of The Best Lover/Gokujou no Koibito and liked it. As soon as it gets a US license I'll ravage the rest.
Update: So I read all 20 issues (I'm going to support the mangaka OF COURSE! As soon as this has a US license I WILL buy it)...while I liked the story I think I'm sick of sexual harassment and rape being trivialized in yaoi :/ Dubious consent is an intellectual kink of mine. To each their own :P It's something I like to read and think about but I'm a grown ass woman who knows better; who plays with a safe & sane partner. I KNOW that real rape has nothing to do with romance or sex. It's a crime about power, control, and domination. I know that sexual assault is NEVER okay. BUT I worry about young women who read this genre of yaoi and take it too seriously or walk away with skewed perceptions of relationships and of queer men. *getting off my soapbox now*
I ended up liking this more than I thought I would, but I would have preferred if the sex would have been consensual rather than dub con (The sad thing is that this is one of the "better" examples of dub con I've read - think of that whatever you may). And to be honest, I would have picked Akito in the end. The art is pretty, however, and overall it was well written. But the way dub con is presented in what seems to be the majority of yaoi really bothers me.
Maybe my expectations were to high, but I I didn't like this manga as much as I thought I would. It was okay, but I wouldn't read it again unless bored. It is just a typical story with typical characters and a typical development. You know, the whole setting with models, a cocky and hot youngster who doesn't consider the feelings of his partner, a topmodel as a rival, kidnappings etc. etc. The same old.
This is a great first volume for this yaoi. The drawing are realistic and the men gorgeous. I like the love scenes too, even if I found Yoshimi a real pushy brat...
