Dominic is in prison working undercover. After six months he manages to connect to Jennah, a police officer, through her dreams. At first she thinks these are just pleasant dreams, but when she hears Dominic's voice communicating with her in broad daylight when she is wide awake, she knows this is more than just a dream or her imagination. The affair, although not actually physical is very sensual and emotional. Until Jennah discovers where Dominic really is and draws the wrong conclusion. Meanwhile, Dominic finds he many be in grave danger and has no way to make outside contact except through Jennah, who isn't too happy with him.
Will Jennah learn the real reason Dominic is in a prison? Will she be able to help him before something terrible happens?
This is a short paranormal romance that is part of a series or connected books. Both of these characters are easy to like. Dominic has a personal reason for being in the prison doing that type of work. He is also strong without being too dominant and is really sexy. If I were Jennah I wouldn't let him out of my sight!
I really enjoyed the mind communication plot and I would love to see what happens next with Dominic and Jennah. I recommend this one to paranormal romance lovers and maybe to those that enjoy romantic suspense as well. Overall this one gets an A.
This book has three inter-connected stories about police officers and their under cover work. The first two center around the same two characters, Jennah and Dominic, as they work to bring down the prison Warden who's up to no good. The third book still has Jennah and Dominic, but the main character focus is on Brody and Tess.
In, In Our Dream, cop Jennah Best is piecing together her life after her divorce. Her ex-husband was abusive and managed to beat Jennah down. But she is slowly starting to climb out of that hole. The only problem is the fact that the holidays are right around the corner and she knows she's going to be all alone.
Enter the sexy voice of Dominic. He comes to her in a dream, but it's a dream that feels all to real. When she dreams him again, it's almost as if she can feel him. When she questions him about what's happening, he tells her he's able to speak to her and visit her in her dreams, but that he is very real.
Jennah thinks things are looking up and she won't be alone at the holidays, until she asks Dom where he is. When he flashes her images of Weystate Prison, she immediately assumes he's a prisoner and doesn't give him any chance to explain, feeling unimaginably hurt.
What Jennah doesn't know is that Dom is an undercover cop trying to get evidence to what's going on at Weystate Prison. She also doesn't know that he's been found out. It will take Jennah and Dom's undercover team to get him out.
In, From A Dream, Jennah and Dom have settled into a routine of Jennah going to work and Dom hiding out in her apartment. Since leaving the safe house, he's been ordered to remain inside Jennah's until the Warden, who escaped custody at the end of In Our Dream, is captured.
But being cooped up inside the apartment is driving Dom nuts. He feels like he needs to do something so he and Jennah can move on with their lives. But when their worst nightmare comes breaking into Jennah's apartment, it's going to take Dom and Jennah's special communication skills and the introduction of a new team member with special skills to help defeat the Warden.
In, After the Dream, Dom's undercover team has been sequestered to a safe house to work on a new case which brings evidence retrieved from a dumpster outside a government office. While scoping out a warehouse, Tess and Brody find themselves in a sticky situation that has them crawling through a drainage tunnel trying to escape. The only problem, Tess doesn't like confined spaces. Brody solves that problem by doing something he's wanted to do for month...distract her with a scorching kiss.
That kiss and the evidence they found, has the team chasing after a councilman bent on creating a way for the bad guys to disable security devices and equipment without having to be close by. It also has Tess and Brody feeling out the chemistry that has been popping off of them since they first met.
Can they get their bad guys and happily every after?
I liked for first two stories. While quick and fast paced, you still got a feel for Dom and Jennah. Through both stories we get to see how their relationship has built, despite the adversity from both the outstanding issues from the prison and Jennah's personal life.
I could have done without the second story. While connected, sort of, it just didn't seem to flow with the other two. While I was happy to see Tess and Brody get together, I really wanted more of Jennah and Dom.
Quick reads that were fun and a great way to kill a couple hours on a Sunday.
Jennah Best is making the most of her life now that she's out of a very destructive relationship. Immersing herself within her work at the Ridge police station, she's content with the peacefulness that now surrounds her. Yet a part of her is also apprehensive. With the holiday's around the corner, she yearns to have someone of her very own to have and to hold. Soon, she starts questioning her sanity when the man of her dreams literally starts appearing within her dreams.
Dominic Palmer has found himself within a rock and hard place with no means of finding a way out. He's taken aback by the fact that he's met a mystery woman within his dreams and slowly coaxes her out of her shell. The realization hits him that they're both tied to one another in more ways than one. With time running out, he knows she's his only link to the outside world. But can he entrust Jennah with all of his secrets without the enemy being none-the-wiser as to who he really is?
From A Dream
Jennah never expected to find the love of her life within a dream. Dominic Palmer is everything she could ever ask for and more. He's treated her with respect since the day they met, even if there were a few white lies tucked in between. Yet she can't fault him to keeping her in the dark about a few things as he's done his best to protect her whenever possible.
Placed on lock-down for the time being, Dominic has grown impatient for action. He can't stand the fact that he needs to remain incognito with a killer on the loose. His only saving grace is Jennah, who keeps him grounded every chance she can.
When a sadistic felon snatches her from under his very nose, he realizes just how much she means to him. Getting her back safely is his first, and only, priority. Enlisting the help of his friends, he's determined to remain one step ahead of the bad guys. Little does he know, Jennah has a couple tricks up her own sleeve, as well, and she's not going down without a fight.
After The Dream
Finding himself at loose ends, Brody wonders just what he's gotten himself into. Now that Dominic no longer has to hide from those who tried to do him harm, he and his team have a new case set before them. Everything seems to go smoothly until the moment Tess makes it onto the scene. She makes his blood boil every time he lays eyes on her and aches so very much to make her his.
Thrown together in hopes of making sense of the evidence, the pair soon finds it a little hard to co-exist within such tight quarters. Yet co-exist they must if they intend to find any promising leads. As their attraction grows, they realize just how much they've come to mean to one another. No matter how much the tension mounts, one thing is clear - they're both determined to fight tooth and nail for what they want and believe in, including the safety of those they love the most.
This was quite a steamy, and very enjoyable, read. A unique take on what it would be like if we were to meet the person of our dreams within a dream. The book is very fast-paced and keeps the reader riveted as he/she seeks to know more about what happens next between Jennah and Dominic. Totally recommend it.
Dreams is a previously three-part novella series grouped into one edition. It is also the first I have read of Ms Paige. I enjoyed the concept of this one immensely. I liked the idea behind connecting with someone mentally before ever meeting them. It’s worked in other romances I have really liked (mainly Maya Banks newest KGI book, Whispers In The Dark). This one took it a step further with the characters first meeting in their dreams. Although I hate when the main characters are separated for long bouts of time, in this one it worked.
Dom and Jennah make a really good couple. I thought they complimented each other nicely. Since Dom spends a good part of the first section in jail the conversation between the two characters was key for my investment in them. I found that while I enjoyed both characters and liked the plot line, the level of writing just wasn’t where I wanted it to be. Some of the conversations felt stiff to me. The steamy scenes felt a bit forced as well. At one point Dom gets a conjugal visit and since he’s undercover they send in Jennah to pose as his wife. I found it hard to believe that any person not really in the jail lifestyle would actually go ahead with a visit of that nature, regardless of how much they wanted each other in the flesh. I know I wouldn’t. I found it a bit skeezy. I also found that the author tended to revert to the same phrases over and over again and after a while it got a bit tiresome to continue reading.
The second section of the book was a lot like the first. Jennah, even though it has previously been stated is an excellent cop, often accomplishing things others couldn’t, manages to let the bad guys get the drop on her at her own place quite easily. This then becomes the main plot as Dom and his friend Brody try to get her back by working with another female, Tessa, who can teleport. When it’s revealed that Jennah may in fact be pregnant with Dom’s baby (since not a condom has been in sight the entire book…so not a shocker) he of course becomes extremely protective and since she has been captured, sets a huge plan in motion to get her back. Again, the author seems to revert to the same sentences. There is only so much “I can’t stand to lose you….or….what would I do without you” a girl can take.
The last 1/3 of the book is Tessa and Brody’s story which I found to be slightly out of place. Since the book is called Dreams and neither of them has that ability it felt a bit off. I wasn’t nearly as interested in them as I was Dom and Jennah. The heat level for them just wasn’t there for me at all. I liked them enough individually, but together they faltered. I also found the plot in this one to be extremely slow.
The thing that hurt this the most was the writing skills. I found a bunch of editing mistakes as well that seemed to glare from the page when I was trying to read. I felt this one could have been helped with another editing pass through and perhaps someone with fresh eyes to give perspective to a plot line that seemed to go DOA half way through. I did enjoy at least the first half though enough to keep reading and that helped my overall score of the book.
This is a great collection of stories that all begin with a dream. And what a dream it was. Its in their dreams that Jennah and Dominic meet. For Dom this is something he has experienced before but for Jennah this is completely new. When she realizes that this is not a dream and that he is real she will do whatever it takes to help him in his mission.
Which leads perfectly into the next story. What happens when Dom's past case continue to be a threat. In From A Dream this idea is a main cause of the current situation. But we also get to really meet some great new characters - Tess and Brody. While Dom has almost always worked solo Brody has always been there as a friend and to back him up. Tess is new to the guys and has her own unique talent that comes into play in a very important way to finally close the case for good.
And a few months later we get After the Dream. Theres a new task force around and everyone is unique in their own way. But Brody doesnt understand why he is part of this team since he believes he is normal. And Tess is fighting to understand her talents better hoping that she will eventually feel normal. The two of them have had explosive chemistry since the beginning. And we get to see how they come to terms with themselves and each other while working with their new team to stop the threat.
This collection is all connected but each story is unique and has its own ending. None of them are really long so its really 3 interconnected novellas. I really enjoyed them and it was great since I always want to know what happens next. And with short stories you dont always get the sense of continuation with the characters you meet. Also while the stories are short, you get plenty of detail and background on the characters that you really can form a connection that you want to see what happens to them and hope that it all turns out for the best.
In Our Dream – Jennah Best is an officer with the town police force. She does mostly desk work and a few transports. She meets Dominic in her dreams and at first thinks it’s just a pleasant escape, but when he starts having conversations with her during work hours, that’s a little beyond the pale. Not only is Dominic real, he’s in Wyestate prison on an undercover investigation. His contact has disappeared and he’s in serious trouble. Jenna has to put her doubts aside in order to save Dom’s life and give them both a chance at a future.
From A Dream – With Dom still on medical leave from his last undercover assignment, He and Jennah have been able to spend some quality time together. So much so that Dom is about to propose. His plans are put on hold when the ex-warden from Wyestate and his henchman kidnap Jennah and hold her hostage.
After The Dream - A new law enforcement team has been formed with Dom, Jennah, Tess, Brody, Smithy and a few others with preternatural abilities. Tess can teleport short distances and although Brody claims he has no abilities, he keeps the side effects to a minimum with the other members. He's like human valium, not exactly what he wants to be with Tess.
I loved the way this book went through a progression of connected stories. The writing was sharp and intelligent with just enough spice to steam up the pages. By the end of the book I was well acquainted and very fond of the characters. I enjoyed the romantic suspense theme sprinkled with some unique supernatural abilities, kind of like an adult version of the Justice League (without the spandex costumes). I was also glad to see a little younger man, older woman action going on. Each story could be read as an entirely satisfying stand alone, but combined they became something really special, because I got to see what happened after the initial happy ending. Great job.
Dreams is a collection of three stories that take the reader through the lives of Jennah Best, Dominic Palmer, Brody, and Tess.
In Our Dream: Jennah is working in a small town police station. She is pretty much content with her life. If only her ex-husband would get a clue and leave her alone and she could find that one person that completes her. One night she meets that special man in her dream.
Dominic is a get the job done cop who is currently working undercover in a prison. Along with his ability to do what ever it takes to solve a crime, Dominic also has the ability to "connect" with others who share his ability. When his cover is blown it's up to Jennah to come to the rescue.
From A Dream: Jennah and Dominic have become as happy a couple they can be with Jennah going to work and Dominic hiding out. When Jennah gets abducted while Dominic is out for a little air his dreams of love, marriage and a family may be at stake.
With Tess' ability to teleport from one place to another and Brody's back up the bad guys get their due and Dominic gets the love of his life back.
After The Dream: Jennah and Dominic are now married and Jennah is a very pregnant woman. While the team is back together for another case Brody and Tess are able to explore their growing feelings for each other.
These three stories are full of action, romance, and adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat. However, the copy I was given had multiple errors. It is such a shame that a really good book could be a really great book if only it was given the attention and care it deserves. Editing is the key. It is because of this that I have to lower my rating.
