Tanze im Licht des Mondes: Fanta lebt bei ihrer Grossmutter in einem abgeschiedenen Dorf in Burkina Faso. Ihre Mutter ist aus dem Dorf nach Paris geflüchtet und schickt ihren Verwandten regelmässig Geld. Fanta fühlt sich in der Dorfgemeinschaft wohl und ist eine eifrige Schülerin, später wird sie wie ihre ältere Schwester die höhere Schule in der Nachbarstadt besuchen können. Mâ, ihre Grossmutter, unterstützt sie sehr und wehrt sich erfolgreich gegen die Beschneidugn ihrer Enkeltochter, obwohl das von einigen Dorfbewohnerinnen nicht gern gesehen wird. Sie befürchten, dass sich die Geister gegen sie wenden. Eines Tages kommt dann die Mutter zu Besuch. Wird Fanta nun ihrer Mutter nach Paris folgen oder in ihrer gewohnten Umgebung bleiben? Der sehr einfühlsam geschriebene Roman zeigt eindrücklich das Leben der Dorfgemeinschaft zwischen althergebrachten Traditionen und der Moderne, wie etwa Bildung für alle, nicht nur für Jungen, sondern auch für Mädchen. Einmalig und stimmungsvoll werden die Landschaften und die Witterungen beschrieben, die symbolisch für die Gefühle des heranwachsenden Mädchens stehen. Ab 13 Jahren, *****, Elisabeth Tschudi-Moser.

Dieses Buch war...naja, eine Schullektüre halt. Es gab ein paar ganz nette Stellen und war relativ leicht zu lesen. Allerdings hat mir die Handlung gefehlt. Jedes Kapitel war wie eine eigene kleine Geschichte, so richtig viele Handlungsstränge haben sich bis zum Ende nicht durchgezogen. Zudem war es manchmal recht langweilig. Man sitzt am Ende nur da und denkt sich: gut, aber was wollte mir das Buch jetzt eigentlich sagen? Naja. Für die Schule ist es aber sicher nicht schlecht geeignet.

There had been some nice chapters in this book, but all in all it was a little boring.
In my opinion, there's a good plot missing in this story. After you've finished the book you're just sitting there and thinking well...What's the point of the story? What should I remember about it? I've not found an answer for these questions.
To say something positive: this book is very good for reading in the French lesson in school, because it's written quite understandable.

Il y avait des chapitres qui me plairaient beaucoup, mais à mon avis, ce livre se concentre trop beaucoup à la vie quotidienne de Fanta, il n'y a pas une vraie action. En plus, la majorité de l'histoire était un peu ennuyeuse.
Mais - pour dire qc positif: La femme écrivain a écrit ce livre très simplement et avec une façon très compréhensible. Si vous voulez lire un livre en français pour la première fois, la Fille des crocodiles n'est pas mal!

If you want to read this book because of the easy French language, then I think you should definitely go ahead and do so.
If however your intention is truly to learn something about Burkinna Faso, abouut the lives and the customs of the people in Nanou, then please stay away from this. The book was just filled with cliché after cliché, every possible thing the media likes to depict about Africa.
First, it's about FGM, about how uneducated the people are and how only 2 people in the entire village are against it, then about a woman living abroad with no papers and has left her children behind, about some crocodile ancestors who just appeared in a few sentences to show the "native beliefs" in that area, drought, a young boy who cannot go to school because he has to work on the field, a young man who wants to leave his village and go to France by all means...
It's not as if things like this do not exist in Africa, but I had the impression that Marie-Florence Ehret basically put together all stereotypes in one book and that was it. The plot was too predictable, too incoherent and not informative at all.
As I said earlier, it's an easy read for a non-native speaker, but just be aware while reading that this is not the Prototype African village portrayed but just the evergreen Stereotype.

Sicherlich nichts, was ich in meiner Freizeit gelesen hätte, aber als Schullektüre gut geeignet. Es werden mehrere Themen behandelt, die sich gut im Unterricht aufnehmen lassen und anhand derer man viel zu dem Thema lernen kann.
Da das Buch bei mir im Unterricht etappenweise gelesen wurde, stört mich auch die „fehlende“ Handlung kaum.
