The old saying "Whatever will be will be" is wrong according to Philip Baker. Great lives don't just happen by chance—they are caused through desire, decision, determination, and faith. They are caused by those who get desperate enough to buck the system and say no to the security of mediocrity. Our being responsible requires us to realize our choices are significant, and that what we do affects who we are and where we will end up.
This is one of those books you do not want to put down once you have started reading it. You want to go out and practice what you have read, but at the same time, you do not want the book to leave your hands. It is a very practical and REAL Life experience book.
A good collection of inspiring quotes.....however it comes from a Christian based perspective with a strange twist - the author believes God's Heaven would be Capitalist based and hates Socialism...however my memory of the way Heaven is structured is a Monarchy with 3 heads. The author also approves of the quick decision made to nuke Japan during WW2.

I read Philip Baker's book this weekend. I found this book inspiring and well-written. Even though I already learned about most topic covered on this book before (from other books), I still consider this book enlightening. One excerpt that I think very interesting is Baker's concept of discipline : "the art of scheduling the pain & pleasure of life."
If you are into personal development, I recommend this book for you.
This is so good, I wish I had written it myself. Still refer back to it even though I read it some time ago. Baker has a writing style that is easy to engage with. This book encourages you to take stock and to take action. Your life is literally whatever you decide to make it.
The title of the book is a bit pretentious. Yet, we get good tips on how to make things happen based from a host of examples. Also lots of quotations to ponder about.
I re-discovered this gem during my most recent move and have read it cover to cover again. Don't let the title chase you away - this is an excellent read that inspires, motivates, and challenges you to live life with a purpose. It focuses on character and virtues often ignored in our society and pushed aside in the busyness of our daily chaos. Written by a pastor (yes, there are occasional Bible references) I think its a great read no matter your beliefs. I'll be adding it to my rare stack of books I read over and over again.
