I think this second book in the mouse hunter series stumbles a bit. Must be that old second novel problem. It did not have the excitement of the first book and the characters were not fleshed out. I just felt that it waffled quite a bit. Hoping the third book is better.

Action packed high-seas adventure with quite a cliffhanger ending. Can't wait to read the last installment!

Wee, the second book. Short story: I bought the first one during a trip to London and ate it on the train ride back to Nottingham. I wanted the second one, but oh no! They didn’t have it in Nott! Could I get it in Canada when I got back? Curses, not till next month! I couldn’t wait that long! So I searched left, then right, and finally found it in a WH Smith! Hurah! And the second one I kept carefully till the plane ride home, to distract me from the screaming baby sitting in the seat next to me. Worked, too! End of short story.
This one was even more epic than the first one, with huge hidden temples and uber baddies. God I hate Miserly, the horrible evil Mousehunter girl. Arg! Had tons of fun with the mice again, and I cannot wait till we get the second one in Canada so I can sell it to kids. Wee!
On another note, Alex Milway commented on the blog which led me to his blog. Anyway, he has a rather clever little bit about the trend of overweight, extra long kids’ books. Harry, I am looking at you, you little bastard. Click through for the full text.

Adventure on the high seas, assassins, pirates, curses, enemies at every turn and --oh yes--mice. Mice of all sizes shapes and uses populate this book. It's fun, fast moving, fanciful and action-packed. Not bad overall for a second book in a series, though readers will now have to wait for the next one to see this tale through.
Most of the plotting is not terribly surprising (other than the mice) but the flow and flavor make it work well enough to overlook that.

Adventure. Mousebeard is under a curse that prevents him from ever touching land. He and his crew head out on a quest to break the curse.
In order to appreciate this book, you really need to have read the first book. I would recommend this book to readers looking for an action story. I had thought the focus would've been on the relationship between the humans and the mice that help them, but the mice played a really minor, non-talking role.

This book was amazing best book ever! But you have to have read the first one to get the full thrill and excitement
