Lots of dad joke humor, pop culture references, and random sureal moments that are sometimes amusing and sometimes just bizarre.
Half the book is taken up going to Grandma D's house and introducing characters that won't go on the actual adventure but be replaced by representations of themselves later.
Ima the witch is quite the character and as stereotypically evil as a witch can get. She attempts to carry out her agenda through powers of illusions and transformations. It's a wonder anyone survives when the witch can make them see and believe anything, but her weakness is sudden distractions and "goodness". She kept the story lively that was otherwise mostly boring. Her little minion witches were cute.

cheesy and moralistic in a less subtle manner than the original books, but with some really cute parts nonetheless.
