Patrick McDonnell's MUTTS is up there with Peanuts, Pogo, Krazy Kat , and Calvin and Hobbes -cartoons that are smart and funny, brilliantly drawn and full of heart." -Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons
Readers of all ages have a variety of reasons why they love the daily comic strip MUTTS . But for some readers, Sunday is the most special day of the week because it is the day that cartoonist Patrick McDonnell unleashes his full-color Sunday strips. Those Sunday-loving readers are in for a real treat with the release of Sunday Evenings . This new MUTTS treasury is the fourth in the "Sunday" series and stars Earl the dog and Mooch the cat, who despite their obvious differences prefer to tackle life as a mostly harmonious partnership.
Under the skilled pen of cartoonist Patrick McDonnell, MUTTS is about far more than the simple, carefree world of pets. Underneath the banter of its endearing characters, the reader often faces the all-too-real concerns of animals and life on the planet Earth. It's what makes this book such a rich and enjoyable experience, one that readers will savor each time they page through the collection.

Both have been adapted as musicals for the Kennedy Center stage. HEART TO HEART: A CONVERSATION ON LOVE AND HOPE FOR OUR PRECIOUS PLANET is a collaboration with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. His Holiness has said “It is my hope that this book will open the eyes, minds and hearts of all people.”
In 2021, Ohio State University hosted Side Effects, a major exhibition of his large scale canvases. There will be a year-long retrospective of McDonnell’s comic strips, book illustrations and paintings at the San Diego Comic-Con Museum opening in January 2025.

What do you do when your Mom's cable box freezes up and so does your back and GR somehow deletes a couple of threads in your group (twice in one day!) and the book you are reading begins to annoy rather than entertain you?
Because I opened up this collection of the MUTTS comic strip.
The color adventures of Mooch and Earl brought me back to a happy place.
I got onto live chat with the cable company and they scolded the box for me so Mother could see her Tuesday night show.
I stretched oh so carefully and my spine adjusted itself back to as close to normal as I will ever get.
And I reposted the deleted threads. Only to find them gone again a few hours later, but two out of three ain't bad.
I can't help it, everytime I read a strip of Patrick McDonnell I can't stop feeling good. He's really funny, intelligent and aware of the situation between cats, dogs and their "owners". This is a wonderful collection of Sunday strips, in full colour and including the original title panels. Halloween stories, holidays stories, and of course, that includes the beach and Crabby. Great book for a great moment.
A wonderful colleciton of Mutt's Sunday comic strips, which showcase McDonnell's great talent, not just for great humour and the life of animales/pets, but as an illustrator as well. Reference to a wide range of visual references make the Mutt's Sunday collections a great treat.
I love the funnies - and while the gags in this collection are not always top notch, the artwork is a treat, hearkening back to the glory days of "Calvin and Hobbes." Fans of comic art will enjoy it.
