Book 1 - 5⭐️ Book 2 - 3⭐️ Book 3 - 2⭐️ Bonus point for the refresher chapter though
I think I’ll call it a day with this series 🫡
I read every single word until page 121 - then skimmed the rest and it still managed to disappoint me. I didn’t like the direction it was taking at the end of book 2 but I was still intent on finishing this… there’s one book left but I’ll call it a day
She sliced his cheek with her long nails instead of just slapping him? That’s so gross and every time I try to picture the scene I cringe
“As long as dreams remain, so do the stars,” I whispered. He dropped a kiss to my forehead. “And so do we.”
tess and kalen are my parents and their romance development over the series is so good with their sweet moments, tension and chemistry. the action was well-paced throughout. i love that we learnt so much more about the gods even if i do wish we got more from them in person (the chapter with sirius was tense for a moment there). i loved the little twists and turns that are thrown in with the magic systems, the prophecy and such. but the cliffhanger is going to be haunting me until the final book. overall i’m unwell
previous edit: so i am gonna need this book asap jenna after that ending x
A really worthy and amazing continuation of the series. The book fastly picks-up exactly where the action stopped in the previous one. Despite having a bit of a rough start that made me think it might become a bit hard for me to want to finish it, I was surprised by the way the mysterious prophecy managed to keep me intrigued through the slow reveals and it was surely not a mistake to continue reading. The story, despite seeming a bit slow-paced at times, quickly managed to culminate with a really gripping and awe-inspiring fight that Jenna Wolfhart did not fail to present in such way that transported you right onto the battlefield. As I always enjoy a good war scene and I always highly appreciate writers that do not rush and take their time instead to give detailed descriptions of these specific scenes, I was not disappointed at all.
Despite not being a huge fan of the 1st person narrative, I have to admit it surely made this reading far more easier. The different points of view did not make the story feel slower in any way, but they rather managed to provide way more details and explanations which were really welcomed and they pushed the rest of the characters in the spotlight.
Kalen is such an overprotective and self-sacrificing hot thing that you just cannot help to fall for him. And he surely earned my respect for the way he never stopped Tessa from pushing her limits and throwing herself in dangerous situations, despite his constant worry. They would simply die for eachother and this is so beautifully presented in the book. Tessa has a simply amazing progress in this book and discovering her true powers surely makes her an interesting character to follow. I will totally be here, patiently waiting for the next book and the conclusion of these characters!

3/3.5. Don’t know what’s up with me lately, but these books just aren’t as good to read!! It hooked me in, but took sooooooooooo long to get to the action I was bored by about 3/4 of the way through. 🫠🫠
i just am so bored. i don’t want to read it, so i won’t. maybe i’ll come back and finish one day. i just feel like every “twist” is so obvious and i was not excited to read it.
I just don’t care enough about these characters. The second book made the plot so convoluted and made me lose my connection to the characters. There isn’t enough tying me to the story and there are too many characters and plot lines happening. I’m not just going to chase a rabbit to find out what happens if there’s nothing to make me care.
“I will always come to your dreams when you call.”
Ugh, my heart. My soul. Kalen is what fluffy, swoon worthy dreams are made of and Jenna made sure we got to enjoy that in this great addition to The Mist King series!!
💙 TROPES & THEMES 💙 ✔️ world/lore building ✔️ multiple POVs ✔️ prophecies ✔️ hidden powers ✔️ dream spice 😎🤣 ✔️ more relationship development for our MCs ✔️ probably the biggest cliffhanger of the series ngl 🤣🥲
This book picks up right back where the last one left us!! I don’t wanna go into TOO much detail because this is book 3 of the series, so that means if you haven’t read the series - this whole blurb retelling would be a spoiler! So I’ll talk about what I loved!
I ADORED watched Kalen and Tessa in this book. Their relationship is so sweet. Kalen’s fae side makes him low key feral so you know I just ate that up. Not only was their relationship growth in this book so good, but their character growth as individuals was excellent. By the end of the book, they had both evolved so much and I was their little cheerleader from the sidelines hyping them up. 🤣
There is spice in this book, it’s not heavy but it is good spice!! Jenna’s main focus in this story was to set the plot up for something truly EPIC coming our way in the next installment.
It was a little slow getting back into this book. The first half had a lot of different character POVs - but this was to set the scene and give you an idea of what was going on where. So I understood completely why, I just wanted more Tessa/Kalen because I’m WEAK. 🤣
The cliffhanger was WILD and I honestly have NO IDEA how Jenna is gonna do it, but I have ABSOLUTE faith she knows what she’s doing and we are in for a TREAT when the next book launches.
So if you are a lover of fantasy with a side of romance and sprinkle of swoon worthy spice - jump IN, this series is so good!! The world building is easy to understand, unique from other fantasy stories, and all the characters (main and side) contribute to this story 100%! You will LOVE this series!!
Thank you so much for this arc, it wasn’t requested - but these are my honest thoughts and vibes! 🤣😍
So this series is one I want to like. The first book was just ok, the second I thought was awesome and then this one just didn't do it for me. This book starts where the last one left off with Tessa trying to figure out what her next step is, also this book does multiple POV's. Sorry had to point that out. So Kalen is of course looking for Tessa and and is just over here feeling sorry for herself. Spoiler alert they somehow end up in the same spot by chapter 3 so no suspense there. After that I was totally bored until about 75% through this book and then wow look out cause you gets tons of information that for some reason the author decides to just dump on you. Mind you their is some romance of course throughout but only one steamy scene. Also with the multiple POV's we are seeing some new love interests. Not sure why we would do this now, but ok. The book of course ends on a cliffhanger which I also did not like. It's like the author try to cram everything you love about paranormal romance into one book and it just did not work for me.
The first two books in this series were both romance with a backdrop of fantasy but this book was full blown fantasy/war planning and no romance. That doesn’t mean it was a bad book, it does however mean it was not my cup of tea.
I absolutely inhaled books 1 & 2. I spent the last few days of the wait for this book counting down the hours and minutes until I downloaded this book within seconds of release. I have never been so eager for a book release in my life.
I was honestly underwhelmed by this instalment and I found myself procrastinating from reading it a lot. I found the first few chapters quite strange, as if they didn't quite match up to the last scene of book 2 very well. I was very much looking forward to the complications caused at the end of book 2, it was obvious to me that the technicality would be the out for the vow but I was expecting there to be more involved in figuring that out rather than the immediate dismissal. It's safe to say that I was disappointed. I am very much the kind of person that will read a good book in 1 day and stay up until the birds start twittering to finish sometimes (which is exactly what I did with books 1&2) but yet this book took me 11 days to read & I was very easily able to put this book down last night at a very reasonable time with only 2 chapters left and a very low need to find out how it ends, my only eagerness to finish this book was a craving for what I want to read next. I think that alone is a good explanation of my experience reading this book.
I find this is a common issue for 4 and 5 book series, there is always a slow boring filler book so I still have every bit of faith that book 4 will be just as good as books 1 & 2!
There were some amazing things about this book, but I felt it was a bit of a filler book. I was surprised it wasn’t a trilogy and there is a fourth book. Some things felt really repetitive about it too. I will read the final instalment but I felt disappointed with this book.

The way he recreated that night in her dream but made it peaceful and held her 🥹 beautiful
Didn’t think Ruari would stand on their side and that he would call out Bellicent Denare and reveal the truth about her. Love the fact that Nellie is far more brave than that we met her and that Tessa is struggling to accept that and the fact she holds a power.
The relationship development between Kalen and Tessa has immensely grown in this book and I loved every second of it.
Niamh take your shot with Val trust me she feels the same!! I can tell and so could Tessa and you both deserve happiness.
That ending though I wonder what the loophole will be to be able to save the world against the gods like it was foretold in the prophecy!
The action in this book was a lot my heart came almost out of my chest with the tension if they were gonna make it!
I was recommended this by the Kindle app and despite my earlier decision to not continue with the series, I'm happy that I read this book.
The plot gets even juicier in this book but some moments just made me roll my eyes.
I really like Tessa's character progression and the reveal of who she is at the end of the book is great. I also really liked how the gods are introduced and we learn more about the prophecy.
I really liked learning about the storm kingdom and why some characters acted the way that they did.
But I felt very bored by the sex scenes between Tessa and Kalen. Just...it felt like when a teenager has sex for the first time and that's all they can talk about for a while? A bit much in my eyes. I skipped most of the scenes because I didn't have the patience for it.
I will be reading the fourth book though! The plot is really good and is the main reason why I've rated it as 3 stars instead of 2/2.5.

Okay I think I have finally figured out my issue with these books. It has a lot of things I like in them but firstly without even reading the last one I know it didn’t need to be 4 books it could have been 3 because the first 3 could have been 2. Also, it is like I can feel the author making up the story as she goes, almost like she is writing faster than she is thinking in some places and in others she is slowing it right down as she is unsure where to go next. This also causing her to put in a lot of repetition. It is rather jolting.
The world building througjt the books are amazing i loved the enimes to lovers build up and there are four books in the seires you dont want to put it down one more books to read. The books are about fae and someone not knowing who they really are and would need to accoet who she really is but does she or does she let it ruin her

What’s frustrating about this is that the story itself is really really good. While it has a lot of traditional themes in the Romantasy genre, it has a string story with interesting characters and unique features that makes this story its own. The writing itself just feels very amateur, sloppy, and unpolished. As a result of it, it left the FMC feeling underdeveloped despite what we had read about her before. It also left inconsistencies about Kalen and how strong is power actually is. It also doesn’t make sense how Tessa just immediately knows how to use Kalen’s powers but not her own. There is a constant jump between not powerful enough and then suddenly all powerful.
Again, I enjoy the story itself, but the writing is not delivering the way it needs to be for it to be a series I want to reread unfortunately.

Oh, this book ends on SUCH a cliffhanger. Thank you #NetGalley for sending me a copy to read!
While it has been a bit since I read Of Ash and Embers, it didn’t take long for me to remember where we left off. This one picks right back up too! I so love when authors do that!! I love Tessa and Kalen, they have this very organic love story.. ugh I just eat it up!
There’s a lot that happens in this book that I feel will have a BIG impact on the rest of the story. Without giving too much away- I did NOT see this ending coming.
I absolutely love the series and could not wait for this book to come out! However I felt like where the first two I couldn’t put down, this one I had to push through. The ending redeemed itself and has me on edge for the book!
I'm 36% of the way in and just got thrust out of a sweet moment by the incorrect use of "subconscious" in place of "self-conscious". There have been a couple of other instances, but this one really got me. A solid 3.5, and in need of a better proof-reader, maybe. The story, otherwise, is great. I'm totally gonna finish it, and i know i will enjoy it.
**Update** Finished and thoroughly enjoyed. I hope the author and editor and proof reader take more time and care with the next book. I really do love this series.
"Here's what is real. You are Tessa Baran, and I am yours. That's all that matters."
Of Night and Chaos is the third novel in the New Adult Fantasy Romance series, The Mist King which follows the journey of Kalen, Tessa, and their friends as they are faced with a seemingly impossible battle on the horizons not just from outside sources but also within. The night has fallen on the realm and the gods are on the horizon...their hope lies in the power that resides in Tessa but if she isn't careful, deadly consequences will unfold...
This book took Tessa and Kalen's relationship to places I absolutely adored. There is tension, sweetness, and support that made whatever they had to surmount worth all the feels it wrung from me. Tessa grows further into her own as she must embrace this new power in her. I appreciated that she was given space to find herself and she wasn't being kept on the sideline. Kalen shows a vulnerability to him in this book that made his actions so much more sweet...while also being willing to do whatever it takes to protect Tessa. He definitely was more willing to say what he feels over Tessa.
The use of multipovs I think really helped further build the world for me, especially Niamh and Ruari and their journey. The entwined so well with the larger theme and plot and had me excited for where things are going. Though...Morgan...I demand justice!
The spice of this book i would put at around 2.5 spicy peppers out of 5 spicy peppers. It is more of a fast burn as the couple are in an established relationship but it was such a sweet element to balance the tension and action building.
"I will be yours as long as I draw breath, and I will never take another for as long as I live. I will be linked to you forever."
The story itself really ramped up in the book with the big action finally starting to come together. I enjoyed the build up with the mysteries being unfolded and the cliffhanger is BRUTAL. I am now incredibly nervous for what is to come but the journey as been so good so far. The twists were interesting but I did predict the majority of them and I did note one area that felt a little telling rather than showing but overall I found the story was well paced and kept me intrigued the entire time. We got these fascinating reveals involving each characters' histories that really added some nuance to the story for me.
If you're looking for a fantasy romance with a sweet romance, high tension, and cliffhangers this is a series to check out! This released on KU on April 28th!
Thank you got Netgalley and the author for this ARC.
