This is book two in the series, with Montana Legacy before, and Montana Glory following. As previously stated for the first book, these aren’t dark romantic suspenses, but contemporaries with an edge. Though they are stand alone books, I suggest reading the series in order to get more out of the experience.
This series is mostly about three cousins coming home and searching for their late grandfather’s gold hidden somewhere on their family ranch in Wyoming. There isn’t a lot in the book regarding the actual search according to the legend though, and assumingly this will conclude in the last book, so I was hoping to see more action in this story. I also felt a lack of conflict between the hero and heroine, riding solely on her insecurities. This is more personal preference than criticisms.
In saying that, I love R.C. Ryan’s writing style. It’s very elegant and descriptive. She transitions smoothly between characters and scenes, leaving the reader dying to see the happy ending. Readers also will be delighted in the Montana backdrop and secondary characters, which is what propelled my interest from the start. In a town as small as Gold Fever, the author needs to make the people in it as realistic as possible, which is no small feat. I found myself rooting for them and wanting to know them. I can’t wait to read Zane’s story in Montana Glory. This is a beautiful tale about love and family. Recommended.
Good book, second in a series about three cousins who come home to Montana to continue their late grandfather's quest for lost gold. This book is about Wyatt, the middle cousin, who also has quite a reputation as a ladies' man. After years of wandering the world, he's happy to be back on the ranch that feels like home. The only thing that can make it better is spending time with beautiful EMT Marilee. Marilee is fairly new to town, having been hired to run the town's only ambulance. She's worked long and hard against her upbringing to gain her independence and she's not planning to give it up for anyone.
I really enjoyed the way that Wyatt finally got Marilee to talk to him the first time. There aren't too many people who could time a fall off a bucking bull to land right at a woman's feet. Even though she shuts down his advances quickly, he doesn't give up, and by the end of the evening he's managed to talk his way into having dinner with her. And though he's really attracted to her, he plays the gentleman and behaves himself. Marilee ends up having more fun than she expected. And when one of her emergency calls results in finding a clue about his family's lost gold, she takes it right to him. This puts them both in the sights of someone who doesn't want them looking for that gold.
I loved seeing the relationship develop between Marilee and Wyatt. It was sweet to see them getting to know each other. Wyatt has a pretty wicked sense of humor and brings a lot of laughter into her life. There are a lot of things that they have in common. Both of them are stubborn and independent, which has them butting heads more than once. Marilee especially can carry her independence a bit too far at times. She grew up with a controlling father and a mother that was so dependent that she couldn't make a decision without him. Marilee swore that would never happen to her, but she also sometimes forgets about the art of compromise. Wyatt is a true cowboy, raised to respect and protect women. When Marilee is put in danger, his protectiveness goes a bit overboard, causing Marilee to push him away. It takes some hard times and deep soul-searching for both of them to learn to give a little. The ending was especially sweet and romantic.
The suspense of the story was a real roller coaster ride. The discovery of the pages from Coot's diary began a series of twists and turns that kept me turning the pages. Each "accident" became more suspicious as Wyatt and the others wondered who was behind them. The tension continued to build throughout as the clues started to come together. The final confrontation was intense with a somewhat surprising outcome. I'm looking forward to the next book and hopefully a resolution to the search.
As usual with small town stories, there are some unique and quirky characters. First of all, I loved the boys' Aunt Cora and how happy she was to have them all back on the ranch. She is the heart of it and gives them all the mother-type love they could want. I liked that she's just as independent as the rest of them, and stubborn too. I liked Daffy, the waitress at the saloon, with her gruff, gossipy care about everyone. It was always fun to see what she had to say when they were in the saloon. Delia was a character that grew on me. She was so mean at the beginning, but as the book went on, her attitude was explained. I loved seeing the changes she went through, thanks to the understanding of Wyatt and the others.
In the second of the three McCord cousins books by R.C. Ryan, Wyatt McCord has gotten back into the swing of ranch life. He’s got his family, a job, and a treasure hunt. What more could he need?
Marilee Trainor is the ambulance driver from out of town, and she caught Wyatt’s eyes right as he came back to town. But she really isn’t looking to be tied down. She fought long and hard for her independence and she isn’t going to give it up easily
People have been killed before over the McCord gold, and when Marilee accidentally stumbles across one of the clues to the treasure no exception is made for her. Someone’s got it out for her, and when they find out she and Wyatt are working together, they begin to gun it for him too.
Marilee and Wyatt had a really interesting relationship and I think that is what I liked most about the book. While the search for gold and the family dynamic are all pluses of both the first and second book, seeing how the two dealt with each other was quite fun.
Marilee is very independent, almost to a fault at times. She makes a comment in the book about how her mother depended so much on her father that she couldn’t even choose a dress to wear without his approval and hell if she’d ever turn out the same way.
Wyatt is also quite interesting, but in a get yourself thrown off a bull for the attention of a woman way. He traveled the world, but didn’t find what he was looking for until he met Marilee. Wyatt lost both of his parents to a plane crash which left him with a small fear of flying – or at least takeoffs – which works because, of course, Marilee is a pilot on the side. The two push and pull constantly so it makes for an interesting dynamic between the two.
Delia and Ledge Cowling and Deputy Atkins also made for an interesting story. While I didn’t expect things to work out the way they did with the two men, I was pleasantly surprised with how things worked out for Delia and her attempts to work at a better life for herself after everything she had to deal with.
One thing I picked up on while reading Montana Legacy and Montana Destiny was that the McCord men are very stubborn when it comes to their women. I can’t wait to see what happens when Zane finds himself a lady in the third book.
My one complaint about Montana Destiny, it seemed a bit chaotic towards the end. The author seemed to do a lot of jumping between paragraphs and I found myself going, “Oh, we’re from Wyatt’s perspective now” or “Oh, it’s the next day.” However, it did not take away from my overall enjoyment of the book. It just took some getting used to.
The bottom line is this, once you get over the initial jumpy, jumpy, which, again, I only noticed towards the end, Montana Destiny is quite enjoyable and can join its predecessor on my cozy reads list.
There is one book left, Montana Glory, which doesn’t come out until November, go figure. So now I’m stuck waiting and waiting and wondering, and I have all of these questions. I constantly wonder why I keep picking up series that aren’t finished yet when all I do is wait, in a very impatient manner and drive my mother and my friend’s insane about it.
Will they find the treasure? Does the treasure not exist? Which is followed by, even if the treasure doesn’t exist they’ll be able to laugh it off after their initial disappointment, because what does it matter if it doesn’t exist when the search brought forth all this love? OR, was the treasure already claimed or perhaps destroyed? And what’s going on with Aunt Cora and Cal? All of these questions are just waiting to be answered.
This great book has good old fashioned romance, adventure and mystery.
Home is where everything in your life evolves from and revolves around. You find peace there and fill the empty gaps in our lives. Wyatt McCord was searching for his haven called home and believed that traveling the world would fill the gap left in his heart after his parents’ death. But when he returned to the place of his childhood after his grandfather passed away he realized that home was the ranch in Montana and family was his cousins Jesse and Zane. He had spent his youth running wild with his cousins and the friendship he formed with them was the foundation of his existence. They worked through the initial struggles of being back together after many years apart and now that Jesse was married new challenges presented themselves.
However the one constant in the background that kept everyone talking was the search for the gold his grandfather swore was buried on the family land. Everyone called the old man crazy but when it was proven that his death was no accident the mystery surrounding the gold and where it might be hidden became escalated and Wyatt leads his cousins in an intense search to solve this mystery. Notes and clues are being found all over the ranch and even in unlikely storage containers in neighbors’ basements. Coot’s notes are helpful and validate the gold’s existence but not enough to just say X marks the spot.
Before Wyatt is even fully settled into the ranch he meets Marilee Trainor and his entire life takes another huge jolt right to the heart. She is the town’s EMT and has a past similar to Wyatt’s with having moved constantly as a child keeping her unsettled and looking for a place to call home. She was always trying to find a place that was a good fit for her and feel like she belonged and it seems she has in Gold Fever working hard for the town and its inhabitants. She is at first not enamored by Wyatt’s smooth talk and charming way about him but he wins her over and before either realizes it they have fallen fast and furious in love.
But someone does not want them to be in love or even alive. One accident was scary, a second terrifying but the third is horrifying and has everyone running for cover and trying to figure out who wants Marilee dead and why. Wyatt thinks it could be her connection to the family and specifically him but does that make sense or has Marilee stepped on the wrong toes and created this crisis in her life.
Finding the place you belong is very difficult when you have had an unsettled childhood. You wander for far too long looking for just the right fit and when you find it the pieces come together and you take a deep breath and say out loud the phrase you have craved forever – I am home. Wyatt and Marilee have both been wanderlust at times but when they come together they realize that home is more than a place to live it is a state of mind. It is a place where you snuggle up at night next to the person you love who keeps you warm and makes you feel the comfort of their existence in your life. Wyatt and Marilee are wonderful characters because they come across as real and people that you would meet on any given day in your life and be proud to call them friends.
Montana Destiny by R.C. Ryan is a must-read for anyone who enjoys cowboys with their romance! It is the second book in this series, but it can be read as a stand alone novel. However, if you would like to get a better handle on the family history and the hunky McCord cousins, I suggest reading Montana Legacy first. After all, you don't want to miss out on these adorable cousins!
Wyatt McCord has been searching the world for his safe haven- not realizing that his hometown of Gold Fever was it all along. His grandfather passing away has finally brought him back home, where he decides to get settled in on the family ranch and rekindle relationships with his childhood best friends and cousins- Jesse and Zane. Although Jesse's new marital status raises challenges, the cousins find common ground, the search for their ancestor's gold. Their grandfather swore that gold was buried on the family's land and although everyone called him crazy for it they were proven wrong when his death was deemed no accident. It is now up to the McCord cousins to solve their grandfather's murder and continue the intense search for the family gold. Will the clues lead them on a futile quest to solve the murder and find the gold?
Now, I can't leave out the romance part, right? Right! We've got the town EMT, Marilee Trainor. Wyatt sets his eyes on her before he's been in town for five minutes and braces himself for an enthralling roller coaster ride of mushy emotions. Marilee's personality was spunky and fun and I had a good time watching her head collide with Wyatt. They share a similar past and she doesn't find herself taken with Wyatt's charm right off the bat. No love at first sight for Marilee, but before she realizes it, she finds herself furiously and irresistibly in love with our hunky hero. But love can't save you from a killer who is intent on taking you down- and just who would want to murder Gold Fever's hardest working EMT? Is it her connection to the McCord cousins' search for gold or has she created this disaster on her own?
This book was great, I loved it. If the plot doesn't keep you going, the romance will! I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading Montana Glory, which comes out in November 2010. It was wonderful watching Wyatt and Marilee fall in love with each other and finally find a place to call home. These characters are magnificent, I felt like I knew them. Now, go out and pick up Montana Legacy AND Montana Destiny! You won't regret it, RC Ryan knows how to deliver an enticing mystery, suspense with deliciously inspiring romance. :)
I received this book for review through Hatchette Books and their book tours. I love finding new authors to read and enjoy. I requested to take part in this tour because it reminded me of Linda Lael Miller's various series about cowboys and ranches and I loved the fact that it contained a mystery. While I do enjoy romance I always enjoy it a bit more with a mystery thrown in there to add to the story. I liked Wyatt and Marilee, they are likable characters. This is book two in a series, but even though I had not read the first one I had no problems picking up the series at this point and enjoying it. I've never read one of Ryan's books before either. On their first date the couple share a pizza and here is something I loved about it, they both really ate! You always read about people eating one slice of pizza and being full which may be very true for some people, but not for all. They each ate two slices and then had a third and that made it seem real to me. Plus I loved that they weren't considering how many calories they had eaten or anything like that, each time they went out to eat, and they went out a lot, they ate what they wanted and as much as they wanted and I loved it. Silly of course, and not the point of the story at all, but that element made these characters more real to me. Finding out the back story of the small town, their families search for the missing gold, and pat relationships and how they affect the present, while watching this couple get to know each other and overcome their own obstacles due to their own pasts made this book and enjoyable read!
I won this one in a first reads contest, and it was actually alright. Some parts of it were a little risque for me, but if you kinda skipped over those parts it was pretty good. I haven't read a lot of romance novels, but I am beginning to see a pattern here: Boy meets girl, boy falls for girl despite the love being somehow "forbidden," they overcome the odds and decide to start a relationship anyway, the relationship cruises along, and maybe they have a fight, but then the girl is put in a life-threatening situation and almost dies, boy realizes he can't live without her, they get married, the end. This pretty much seems to be the theme. That said, this book stuck to that theme really well, so it was probably what one would expect from a romance novel. The plot was not quite as good as the first book in the series, and while i liked the main guy character better, I wasn't as crazy about the main girl character, she was kind of hard to "get to know." All in all, I'd have to say that if you like romance novels, you will probably really like this book.
i've wanted to read this for quite a few years. i read montana legacy back in high school &ive wanted to read this one ever since i finished that book.it seemed lighthearted &charming.. but that was then.&this is now. these storylines, sadly, havent stood the test of time. i used to like storylines like this, but i just cant put up with them anymore.they arent realistic.&its cheesy at times.so overdone. "long, long legs." one long would have been fine. its bad writing when i think he fell off the bull just to reread it and find out that he actually stayed in the whole time. it sounded like 5 secs, not 60.&i find it highly unlikely that he rode a bull named devil-a reportedly crazy, wild bull-&stayed on 60 secs.the bet was for 10,which is hard enough, but 60 seconds was just incredle.incredibly unbelievable! has anyone in the history of the world stayed on a bull-a raging wild bull-for sixty seconds?! i doubt you could even stay on a milk cow for that long. &it sounded like devil calmly walked by the fence &he vaulted over.not that devil bucked to the fence&he just happened to fly over it to the ladys feet. the medics are supposed to be trained, not cry out "my god!" yeah its a scary situation, but they're trained to be calm under pressure. the speech so far has been childish, cheesy, corny and SO overdone.who talks like this?! -"silver-tongued actor." "why thanku.i had no idea u'd examined my tongue.mind if i examine urs?" its just really weak. & "im beginning to think maybe u r.in fact, more than a lil.a whole lot crazy." are you a grown woman or a child? i love when authors bring back characters in their first book in the the latter books in the series. like amy&jesse.except she didnt have them touch each other,or even talk to each other! WTF was she thinking?! they're at the rodeo.she makes a couple remarks to wyatt.&thats it.she doesnt talk to jesse and jesse doesnt talk to her. are they even married? do they even like each other? its like they arent even together! the characters arent exciting at all.the overall tone is boring and mild.&the speech is a lil too proper.talk like normal people do! wut kind of name is "marilee trainor"? trainor is like someone w/an accent saying 'trainer.' idk wut accent, but some kind of accent. "showboat." who says that? this series is just dated. "careless cowboys tend2 break bones,or even their skulls." careless?! they're hanging onto a huge animal while it charges, bucks and kicks around. like they can control how they land or if they get hurt.careless doesnt even enter the equation. "that he'd waste so much of her time &energy on his weird idea of a joke." yea those couple minutes rlly wasted a lot of ur time.&ur energy? wut energy?u ran ur hands over him to check for broken bones &that was it. you dont like him but u answer his questions &then make him stay for pizza just because you're hungry. wtf.this is like a nora roberts character.they have lightning fast mood changes. who lets in sum1 they dont know, just because they're hungry? yea.no1. she says the only things i like on my pizza r..." &then proceeds to say four things. "on your family's crazy treasure hunt." why would you say that? she traveled a lot cause she was an army brat.&just because he traveled she asks if his dad was in the army. who assumes that? he could have traveled for a myriad of reasons. "experimented with women, wine, song." just love comments like that. he meditated with monks.i cant picture him doing that at all.it was just so random. '"the treasure u dont believe in." he shot her a dangerous smile.' why a dangerous smile after saying that? '"you sound like two lil kids." wyatt shot her a wicked grin. "didn't you know that all men are just boys at heart?"' why a dangerous smile? they dont know each other.idt they've even spoken b4 the rodeo.&yet you want him to kiss you & he says "id like to be more than your friend." &she says "he was a man of many surprises." how does she know that? im srry, but a cowboy saying "tiramisu" is just too much. "know this land intimately." who talks like that? in fact, who says intimately except when your talking about two people being together. "house alive with all those young stallions." whoa there.you're talking about ur great nephews! "it was enticing to think about another generation growing up on this land." there again, weird choice of words. "enticing" doesnt rlly fit there. his issues with flying turned out to be a lil butterflies in the ol stomach.that's his fear of flying? he gets a tad uneasy at the takeoff &then immediately relaxes when they level off. everyone probably feels like that. &i thought it was a lil crass how she just out &says 'the way ur parents died' or w/e. she could have worded it a lil more gently. 62 pages in and she's "falling for him." "oh-oh." who says that? its uh-oh. i experienced some deja vu in the convo between cal&cora on pg 91. "champing at the bit." isnt it chomping? "oh,baby." oh,geez.way to ruin the moment. author should write what's actually happening because this crap- "with hearts thundering, they began moving, climbing.lungs straining, bodies hot &wet, they reached the very crest of a high, sheer mountain.for one heart-stopping moment they paused, taking in deep breaths.on a shuddering sigh, they stepped off the edge.&flew." -is just too much. he says "thats what i love about you." not "i love you." i didnt even think anything of it&she brought it up &then hes like "wut u thought i tossed out some casual phrase?" thats exactly what it was cause he said he loved that she worried over ppl,not 'i love *wanna marry you.' wth! whats all this "the more i got to know you." & "she'd waited so long.' what, all three wks? you barely know each other! i was heartily sick of reading about them going out to eat @the same dang place &ordering the special &signaling they wanted two longnecks.&cal worrying over cora, who never connects with them.they barely talk/touch eachother.no one likes repitition. "what took you so long?" "it nearly killed me to walk away from u each time." what, all three times? some things arent funny&everyone laughs.the humor is just bad. she says the thing was owned by delia's brother but doesnt connect him with the plane accidnet.neither does wyatt.oh,boy. i knew when he went along on the emergency call, something would happen.i dont like predictability. she's a medic&flies planes.rlly? turn a chapter&it will have only skipped a few minutes.but ont he same page it'll skip hours. ex-"her words had the 3 of them falling silent. later, when cora headed to her studio.." w/o even a line break. only been together a few weeks&they 'love eachother.' i HATE when love comes too quickly. cora was getting crazy with the "go see delia!" crap.go see her yourself. i was disappointed how the book ended.i wish they would have been at the ranch instead.it def. could have been better. the killer thing was a tad weak¬ too threatening.miraculous-she crashes twice &makes it away pretty much scot-free. the keys saved him-pretty unrealistic.every1 kept getting in accidents &wouldn't get seriusly hurt. jesse touched/hugged/kissed cora more than he did his own wife.i mean rlly, how much do ppl kiss, touch&hug their aunts? very disappointed @the lack of connection between jesse&amy. the cora/cal thing was deja vu left&right.she'd leave,he'd worry.this book was set on repeat the whole time.they just kept doing the same things over&over. emergency call, fly the plane, see delia,go to the ranch, dandy would cook, cora would decide to go on a painting trip, cal would worry, she'd reassure him that she had a pistol, rifle&phone, wyatt& marilee would go out2 eat &get the special, jesse&amy would walk in the room w/o talking or touching each other &zane would pop out his camera.thats all the book was. for 2 ppl who like each other, they never connect in any way.this book is just drier than a bone. in fact, the 1st one was too. it was kinda crazy how everyone kept recapping the killer/plot thing.i mean,i thought it was all clear, just for the sheriff to say "we'll know more later." &i'd be like "what more is there to know?" i got heartily sick of cora saying she was worried the cousins wouldnt be close again. also, the series is about cowboys &yet you dont get that sense.i mean yeah, they were boots, hats, w/e, work on the ranch, but it stops there.when i read the preview of this book in montana legacy i was so excited about reading about the rodeo &the fact that he rides bulls.but he only did it once.she just completely left behind the cowboy thing &instead focused on an airplane, cora painting, going out to eat and dandy cooking at the ranch. this series needs life&humor breathed into it.it could be good,or at least better, but its just so boring.it isnt exciting enough.&i hate that, because i love books about cowboys.
Wyatt McCord was going to meet Marlee Trainor even if he had to hurt himself riding a bull. He knew that there was something between them and not just their love for excitement. Marilee wanted to be independent and did not know how to share her life without feeling like she was giving away her freedom. It takes both of them to realize that you don't give up anything to be with someone you love. Great read.
MONTANA DESTINY by R.C. Ryan is the second book of the McCords series. Once again, this reader is enticed by the suspense and romance involving Wyatt McCord and Marilee Trainor, especially when she stumbles upon a clue on the legendary McCord gold and suddenly finds herself in harm’s way. R.C. Ryan writes stunning details of the Montana wilds and the danger following Wyatt and Marilee. MONTANA DESTINY is a true cowboy adventure, so hang on to your cowboy hat!
I feel this book could be a 5 star book of it was a stand alone but it is part of a series. The author unfortunately used different characters but the same idea and events with a change of scenery. Wyatt and Marilee fall in love. They have some frightening events. In the end, the bad guys try to kill them with a gun. The author needs to change up her stories. Not sure i am interested in trying to read the next book.
This book was so good ! I love cowboy romance books. This was my first time reading one by R.C. Ryan.
Marilee Trainor is an emergency medic and loves her freedom. When she stumbles upon clues to the legendary McCord gold she butts heads with Wyatt McCord.
After mishaps that almost kill her, she and Wyatt work with his family and friends to find the truth and along the way they ness to trust each other and their heart.
I just found this author and she is amazing with her store line. The Montana Legacy, Montana Destiny and Montana Glory kept me so interested that I couldn’t stop reading. On to the rest of any system done by this author.
Reviewer Synopsis When “Crazy Old Coot” McCord passed on, he left behind a legacy of vast Montana ranch lands, a thriving family business and his obsession to find the “McCord Fortune”; a fortune of gold said to have been stolen from the McCord family over 100 years ago. The town may have called Coot McCord crazy, but when his grandsons were beckoned home to attend his funeral, they took up his search with a fervor matched only by his own.
In Montana Destiny, the second of the Montana series by R.C. Ryan, Wyatt McCord has come home to stay. Forced, by his parent, to leave the ranch behind at a young age, Wyatt continued to travel the world, never really finding his place, his home. That is, until his grandfather passed and he returned Gold Fever, Montana for the funeral. After arriving, it took only a matter of minutes for Wyatt realize how much he missed this place, how much a truly belonged here. He knew for certain, this time he wasn’t leaving. He was finally home.
Marilee grew up an “army brat” and as such, moved many times, saw many places, and could never really “measure up” to her fathers expectations. After fighting long and hard to be able to call her life her own, Marilee has settled in Gold Fever as their resident EMT. With both her parents gone, it’s a bit of a solitary life, but it’s quiet. She enjoys her freedom and the friendships she’s fostered here. There might not be much in the way of “excitement”, but at last she is truly independent and happy with her lot in life.
Attending the local Rodeo and mending those inevitable bruises, cuts and broken bones is all part of the Marilee’s job and today all is going pretty much as usual. That is, until a cowboy comes flying over the fence and, quite literally, lands at her feet. It’s Wyatt McCord. Silver tongued, skirt chasing, really good looking, and trouble with a capital T, Wyatt McCord. Definitely the typical ladies man. Marilee has been avoiding this man for weeks and here he lands right at her feet all full of sweet talkin’ lines and brilliant smiles. And that, as they say, was the beginning of the end for Marilee.
My Thoughts While Wyatt has set his sights on a full blow romance with Marilee, she in turn, is determined to keep her hard won independence. Add to the mix, a thrilling adventure surrounding the search for Old Coots gold and those who would do just about anything to keep its secret and you have a really great read!
R.C. Ryan has developed a story that will keep readers on their toes. Complete with a very HOT cowboy or two, the search for the lost fortune, and what I like to call really great “giggle moments”, Montana Destiny is an extremely enjoyable read. While it can be easily understood with out reading book one of the series, Montana Legacy, there are some questions I had that made me wish I had started the adventure from the beginning. Needless to say, I’m off to by my copy of Montana Legacy and am anxiously awaiting the release of the final book, Montana Glory in November 2010.
Dear FTC: Montana Destiny was provided by the GoodReads FirstReads program, at no charge and in exchange only for an honest review.
I would have to say that I thought this book was very good. I just love a good Western Romance especially when you just don't want to put it down. Although this is the second book in the series it didn't matter you can read them in any order and still understand and enjoy the story. I haven't read the first book of the series which is "Montana Legacy" but will be reading it soon as I have found that I really like the way this author writes. I like how she gets into detail about the characters and makes you fall in love with them.
This book has two main characters Wyatt and Marilee they are a couple that is just meant to be together. They both have their struggles when they are falling in love but it is a very believable relationship and I really like that. Marilee is a Medic and Wyatt is a cowboy. I liked the way the story begins with them at the rodeo and that they both lead different lives they have both had difficulties and worked through them to get to where they are when they meet and yet they are really just alike and perfect for each other. I like the fact that the family is so close and they are there for each other. All in all I really enjoyed this book and thought it was not only a romantic read but it was also a good mystery as well. A good book to get lost in. I will be looking forward to R.C. Ryan's next book coming out in November "MONTANA GLORY".
I was provided this book from the author R.C. Ryan, Forever- Hachette Book Group & Anna Balasi through Book Blogs. This review is of my own honest opinion on the book that I have recieved from this company free of charge to do this review and that in no way influences the way I do my reviews. I am under no obligation to give a positive or negative review. I thought this storyline was very good. It kept me interested and was very hard to put the book down. It was a book that made me want to just read more and more and I really just didn't want it to end. It has excitement, desire, passion and suspence all in one and that makes for a great book.
Marilee and Wyatt are the two main characters in this book and they make for a great couple. They are strong willed and both have went to great lengths to make a life for themselves that they always wanted while growing up.
Wyatt's family is a family that everyone would want to have. They are always there when they are needed and they care for each other very much. This book was very good and it is the second in a series. You don't need to read them in order to understand and enjoy this book. I am looking forward to R.C. Ryan's next book coming out in November of this yr. "Montana Glory".
This is the second of three books. They can be read as a stand alone, but I always like to start with the first book of a series. First off, I did like this book. It had a cute story, the characters were nice, I liked some of the banter between all the characters. I also liked the description of the house they all lived in. However I felt like the dialogue was off, sometimes childish in a way. I felt like some parts were developed good while others left be a bit confused. Like when other characters are mentioned, besides Wyatt and Marile, you feel like that character is really not there. I did like the ending. If I had to choose to buy this book over again I would, because it has potential I just would run out and get it right away like I would a lot of other books.
This book is a pleasant contemporary romance. I love the small-town setting, and the way the community and its gossip factor into the plot. I liked that the main characters meet and are attracted to each other before the mystery elements are introduced. I've read too many novels where the suspense action throws the protagonists together, in a small town they would naturally know each other beforehand.
While I've read many novels that were better crafted than this one, I can honestly say that I enjoyed Montana Destiny very much.
After winning this through First Reads, I picked up Montana Legacy, the first book in the trilogy, to acquaint myself with the characters, setting, and plot. I have to say that this second book, Montana Destiny was even better than the first. The main characters are more developed and both have flaws, albeit slight, that make the story feel a bit more authentic. This is a fell-good western romance with a little mystery thrown in to spice things up. I enjoyed it and I will be reading the final book in the trilogy, Montana Glory, once it comes out in November. 3.5 stars (rounded to 4)
I said it for book one, I'll say it for book two: "Baby" is a horrible pet name. Couples should never use "baby" on each other. It's the most clichéd pet name in the US, and I've never heard anyone call their sweetheart "baby" without flinching. And it's kind of creepy. (On a side note: "babe" is almost as bad. It's only redeeming quality is that it's more likely referring to "hot babe" than "tiny baby." It's still kind of hideous, though.) I find it hard to enjoy a book when I flinch every time someone calls someone else "baby."
This way a great book. Marilee has fought hard for her independence and while she falls for Wyatt, she feels that he is too overprotective and will take that independence away.
Wyatt is a cowboy that was taught you protect the ones you love. He has to find a way to compromise his need to protect and Marilee's need for independence or lose her forever. And while he is doing this, figure out who is out to end her life completely......
I won this novel as part of the firstreads giveaway. The mystery storyline of this novel was very interesting, and it was written in such a way that you cared what happened to each of the people involved. However, the romance part was much too sensual for my taste. It could have been toned down quite a bit and still have been enjoyable.
Thank you Goodreads! This is a book I won and I enjoyed it very much. Wish I would have read the first book in the series first, but plan to do so now that I have read the second one - also, will be sure to read book #3 when it comes out.
Really enjoyed the book! Marilee is all about taking on the world until she meets Wyatt. Can both lose their strong independence and realize they love each other, before it's too later. Mix this in with murder! Great story!
Great second volume in the McCord trilogy. Loved the whole family treasure thing story and the two maincharacters Wyatt and Marilee. I had so much fun with this story!
