The phenomenal Lisbeth Zwerger strikes again. Okay okay, Ill admit I didnt actually reaaaaad the text of this book. It’s Noahs Ark after all…. I feel like the text was… unnecessary??? Is that bad? BUT. If you would like to be whisked away into the magical world that is Zwerger’s illustrations AND in so doing finally experience a not boring retelling of Noah ark, might I suggest this book?

There’s many versions of Noah’s Ark, all with the same concept and story line. This book was pretty straightforward and right to the point. I enjoyed looking at the illustrations of the animals and I like that there were small marks to identify the male from the female.

The story was pretty accurate but the illustrations were bizarre including mythical creatures such as unicorns.

I am in love with the cover on this book! I like that this page was chosen from the story to serve as the cover and get the reader thinking about the book and what it would be about. The shape of the book also appeals to me because it is fairly large and the hardcover indicates a sense of quality. Both the back cover and the title page were covered with drawings of various animals; I wish they would have done this one the end pages as well. The first pages on the inside of the book were just a green color. The theme would have been better carried through had they had animals prancing around on them as well.

I discovered the 222 shelf at the library. There are some great picture books on the scriptures. This one follows the bible story of Noah pretty well, and the watercolor illustrations are clean and gentle, and a little bit artsy. I like this illustrator, I think.

I am a huge fan of the artist Lisbeth Zwerger. Heinz Janisch tells the delightful story of Noah's Ark. "They looked up, and saw a rainbow linking heaven and earth. And Noah went away from the ark, in hope and trust, and his offspring peopled the earth."
