About the author

Sumi Emi, born into a former samurai family, was a journalist and novelist. He moved too Tokyo when young to join the army but instead joined the Kenyūsha literary society. Although he didn't fight for his nation in the Sino-Japanese War in the traditional sense. He found a way to support the effort with his celebrated stories in the newspaper Chūō Shinbun.
