About Me
I love deserts, which is too bad as I live in Scotland, but the mountains, glens and lochs more than make up for it. My other love is Greek Tragedy, especially Euripides, and I also read history, science, fantasy, and pretty much anything about the Beatles…

How am I supoosed to review this? Everything I want to say is spoilers? 😂
I will just say... Wow. Just wow. I can't believe the end has come and that was the ending. And just wow.
Another out of this world hit from Christopher Mitchell. If you haven't read the series, start at the beginning. You won't regret it. If you have... Well, you know how amazing it is.
If you are new to this series I recommend reading more of the series prior to jumping in here. The story is so involved and intertwined that you would require past knowledge to really know what’s happening. Please don’t let that dissuade you, if you are looking for the next best fantasy series do not let this one pass you by! I’be been part of this journey since the start and have never felt let down by any of the stories. Sometimes writers get into a funk and can’t keep the energy or excitement going but Christopher Mitchell manses to actually build and build. I’m always left wishing it wouldn’t end which is one of the hallmarks of a epic series.
I was actually worried things might be wrapping up and am so happy the journey is not over. Right from the start of “World’sEnd” I was captivated. This book brought forth a range of emotions. I laughed, cried, first bumped to the sky all the while glued to the end of my seat. The characters are so well developed that you can’t help but feel for them. There are ones you’ll hate and ones you’ll love but trust me when I say you will be invested in them all.
Thank you for this series. I can’t wait to continue the journey.
Received my advanced copy of Worlds end to read before the official release date and obviously had to put everything down to concentrate on what would happen to the Holdfasts. Without giving anything away the Book is the usual standard from this series of books, unputdownable! I loved it. It takes you on the usual Journey of ups and downs and involves all our favourite characters from the Magelands. Not a book obviously, for a New Reader of Christopher Mitchell to start with, but if you start anywhere else in the series, you will get to it. It also leaves plenty of openings for the author to go elsewhere with the remaining characters in the future. A Fitting conclusion to probably the most enjoyable series of Books I've ever read. Cant wait for the next series, in the meantime, I'm starting from The Mortal Blade again.
This series is definitely EPIC! Spanning different worlds and following the lives of many different characters it was an absolute pleasure to read. I highly recommend this series, it is worth the investment of time to enjoy seeing how all the characters grow and change over time and to follow them on their journeys. This story is the conclusion and it is satisfying, heart breaking and exciting all at once. I laughed and cried and gasped and neglected many things as I couldn't put the book down. There is quite a bit of violence as the characters quite literally fight for their lives but it doesn't feel over the top gruesome. I might have to go and read it all again now I know the outcome...
An epic ending for the most intriguing family to ever be created
I have been with this family through every type of quarrel, heartache, adventure, and heartwarming gatherings and it was a glorious ride. The Holdfasts are the true immortals. They will live forever in my heart and soul. Mr. Mitchell will also be immortalized for being an author with the most visionary heartfelt imagination. I hold dear every one of the characters that didn't make it in the end but the future will finally be a positive one for the living. I won't be able to read another book for a while so I can process all my jumbled feelings. I had the best time watching this family and look forward to checking in on the other characters lives with Mr Mitchell's creations.
World's End: An Epic Fantasy Adventure (The Magelands Eternal Siege Book 16) , my twentieth read from prolific author Christopher Mitchell, 625-pages of epic fantasy, a classic, now sadly concluded. Just when you wonder where this epic goes next Mitchell delivers. Is this the end? Will the end be all that readers expect? When I want to read epic fantasy I first look for author Christopher Mitchell. I look forward to reading more from this author, Now I need to go to the Magelands Epics Series starting with Needs of the Empire. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
I have read more books, in this, genre than I can remember (good thing Goodreads keeps track for me) and this is certainly the longest series I have ever read, and likely the best.
I've read Peloquin, Holmberg, Wacht, Peppers, Herzman, Webb, Edge, Estes, and Armentrout, and none have captivated me more than Mr. Mitchell has with this piece of work.
How he kept track of all of the world's, the countries on those worlds, all of the powers and the strategems, I'll never know, but man, he did all that and more!
If you like magic, bloody action, blowing stuff up, suspense and yes, even some romance, you won't be able to put this series down once you start.
Quite a frustrating book, the strongest mortal mage is quite the idiot when she really tries. Her family seems to be where she gets this trait as most of them make similar or worse mistakes.
Spoilers ahead at your own risk...
Using a quadrant and risking losing it when all of your party "could" use the sextant is a GROSS strategic oversight.
Having people get killed again and again because you think you know better and that there is never time to talk.
Not transporting her body to a safe space before joining it again.....only to be murdered. Just dumb.
Overall a frustrating story but mostly enjoyable. I struggle to except these frustrating choices had to be made for the sake of the story.
I won’t give any spoilers away as I do not want to spoil your experience of the book. What I will say is that Christopher Mitchell has delivered and delivered well, what a climax, what a finish to the series, one of the best books I have read. Honestly, it is so hard not saying anything about what happens in the book, just read it, enjoy it, spend some time on these worlds with the characters and savour it, it’s fantastic. What’s next from Christopher, I don’t know, but I’m already looking forward to it. Enjoy.
What can I say about this book… As a huge fan of fantasy it’s a sublime piece of writing that pulls together all the threads from the previous books in the series. Christopher’s writing has evolved throughout all his books, culminating in this epic. I have loved every one of the stories, which invoke laughter and tears and I am very sad this chapter has come to an end. If you’ve never read any of these books, I can highly recommend all of them. Thank you Chris, for writing what has become one of my favourite series of books!
Wow what can i say. I was spellbound by this book. The culmination of the previous has now concluded.... or has it? I cried, i sat gripping my seat as the worlds fought bravely, characters redeemed themselves, new strength and personality brought into some. So sad, yet not... what an amazing story line which takes us to... the beginning? Full of laughs and tears, the joy Sable, Daphne, Karalyn, Corthie, Kelsey, Kier bring to the story... the bravery. I love that I can never guess what's going to happen next.
I have read this entire series (much of it twice) and I don't remember ever being so invested in fictional characters as I have been with Mitchell's creations. The Holdfasts have become so dear to me and I grieve their losses. Everything about this saga worked for me. Each of the world's has been written in such a wonderful way that I am transported to them as if I had my own quadrant! Mitchell is a phenomenal writer and I highly recommend his books to anyone seeking a wild adventure!
An excellent series. I was totally involved and couldn't hold my breath long enough while waiting for each new book to be released. I don't want to write a bunch of stuff about the story(s) in the series as there are many lives brought to life. All I can say is if you like fantasy, dragons, and sitting on the end of your chair, a lot, you will not be let down by this 16-book series. I will try and hold my breath while Christopher writes the next thriller.
Oh my God!!! This is the best series finale I've read in a long time. Honestly, I usually balk at long series'. Usually after book three, things can become really repetitive, but not here. Not this series. Mitchell did a phenomenal job at world and story building throughout the16 books, I couldn't put it down! And this finale! What an roller coaster of emotions, adrenaline and heartbreak. It was a perfect ending to my favorite series since HP!
I am amazed at how much I loved the whole series. I would put it in the top 3 series I have ever read along with (LOTR and Shannhara). There is death and destruction, sadness and joy along with a sadness that this part of the Holdfast saga is complete. Thank you for the whole experience and joy of reading an amazing series over the years.
I absolutely love these characters and the world they’re set in. It’s refreshing to read books that are constantly full of new adventures and don’t have all that repetitive content. I read 24 books in a matter of weeks, I literally couldn’t put them down. I’m now looking forward to the next 4 books from this world.
I have read all 16 books of this series and thoroughly enjoyed every one. The characters are engaging and love them or hate them, the structure of each one draws the reader into their story and the different worlds. I was emotional at the end of this book but I won’t be adding any spoilers! Definitely worth reading the whole saga.
If you are looking for a rollicking fantasy adventure, this is it!
Excellent read. Character development is so well and beautifully crafted that you cheer with their victories, get disgusted with their failures, and weep, yes, weep when their stories end. Loved all the books in the Magelands Eternal siege.
Books that are purportedly epic rarely turn out to be epic. This 16 book series is actually the real McCoy (Scottish McCoy, not American). Christopher Mitchell builds up his characters, and is not afraid to terminate some of them as part of the story. Well written, holds your attention from start to finish. Highly recommended.
Just finished the complete series and what an adventure. Wonderfully put together with none of the useless prattle that takes up at least a quarter of the book on constant repeats of what's gone on in previous volumes like in a lot of other books. I look forward to settling down to read further books from this author. All the best for the future. Stuart.
I will miss these characters. They feel like family after having read all sixteen books. I can only hope there might be some offshoots featuring these characters. Christopher weaves an excellent story.
This was a great final book to a wonderful series. I strongly recommend the whole series of books. I admit there are parts I hated but I'm not the writer. But just read it.
The last book of the Holdfast saga delivered the killing blow. Hearts were broken, and a new world started. Great characters, storylines, and I am sad to see this series done. Brilliant work, Christopher Mitchell!
From the first moment you meet Maddie and the last page as well. It’s what is in between that sets the smiles, tears, joy, loss and a peaki at the future. Love this series!
I have read this series from start to end and loved it. Probably the best fantasy series-and I have read more than I can remember over the years. I’ll wait for a while and then read it again. For me, that is a sign of something special.
The end of a 16 books exhilarating saga! But is it an end, though? There are plenty of possibilities for returning to the beloved Star Continent, the City and Dragon Eyre worlds... one can hope, right?
I chose this series as a summer read and was not disappointed. I ado red all the characters even the Ascendants and their narrow thinking. Mr.Mitchell is an excellent story teller and I will be pursuing more of his work. Long live the Holdfasts!!
An excellent end to a superb series. Some surprising deaths, some expected ones, some interesting solutions and not everybody gets to live happily ever after but the bad guys definitely get their comeuppance - well who wants an unhappy ending anyway?
An excellent end to a superb series: some unexpected deaths, some expected ones, one or two unexpected survivals and interesting endings but the bad guys get their comeuppance - who wants an unhappy ending anyway?
