She is the internationally best selling author of 20 ground-breaking books, which have been translated into 33 languages.

Gael’s method works. It is grounded in 30 years of tried-and-tested strategies, bringing success for people from all walks of life. She uses a wide range of creative and interactive techniques. Through her highly engaging and ‘non-academic’ writing, media appearances, and seminars with charities and business organisations, she fosters in people the courage and coping mechanisms to become more confident and motivated.

Her unique hallmark is her down-to-earth approach. When consulted about a problem, she can always be relied upon to come up with a clear and concise explanation of its most likely cause and a practical strategy with which to tackle it.

Gael has also acquired enormous respect and credibility through her personal sharing. She is herself a role model for bouncing back from setbacks. She spent most of her childhood in children’s homes, overcame severe depression in her twenties and dealt with the traumatic breakdown of her first marriage in her thirties. More recently she lost a 19-year-old daughter in a tragic accident in 1996.

This book promises " Simple Steps to Build Confidence ", but it falls short in a number of ways.

1 - First, the book is targeted at a very specific audience: introverts who lack even the most basic social skills. If you are not an introvert, or if you already have some confidence, this book will not complement your life.

2 - Second, the steps outlined in the book are very basic and fundamental. There is nothing groundbreaking or counterintuitively brilliant about them. You can write similar, or perhaps even better, steps after pondering for sometime.

3 - Third, the book is repetitive. The author uses the word "assertive" countless times, and she portrays it as being as easy as repeating your argument again and again until the other person agrees with you. This is not only simplistic, but it is also untrue. Assertiveness is a complex skill that takes time and practice to develop.

Overall, I would not recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a comprehensive and effective guide to building confidence. If you are an introvert who is struggling with social anxiety, this might be for you. Albeit, i found it to be a obnoxious waste of time & money.

4 out of 5. Though, I recommend it to people who are new to this subject and are looking for an introduction to a broad range of self-confidence topics. I don't recommend it to those who have already identified certain skills as their weaknesses and are looking for books focusing on such individual skills with deep insight (i.e. communication skills, love relationships, dealing with anger, etc.)

Super Confidence, written by Gael Lindenfield, talks about general guidelines on how to start building up inner confidence. A distinction must be made between appearing as confident and truly feeling confident -- which the book discusses. Feeling confident is to be able to express oneself freely, to not mind setting new goals to achieve what one wants, to not feel overwhelmed by problems, and to behave appropriately to every situation.
A general view and tips are given on various concepts that help boost one's confidence. A crucial foundational chapter, I have found, is the third, Self-Knowledge, which emphasizes the importance of identifying one's identity, values, strengths and weaknesses, and personality. Only by understanding these basics, one can move on into the practice.
Other aspects that are focused on to help in confidence building include: self-esteem improvement, styles of behavior, communication skills, anger and criticism, etc. While I understand that an individual book can be written on each of these topics. I believe that this book can serve as an introduction to self-confidence and the elements contributing to it. One can have a general idea about them. Then delve deeper in to an element or two in other books that are more specific in their approach.
Despite the book's borad range of subjects, it offers practical use of its tips by the end. 50 different types of practical excercises that can be applied into one's life are thoroughly explained and can help in all the subjects the book talks about
